My favorite part of this sketch is that they’ve put so much effort into creating a coherent story, yet we can infer that at some point in Act 2, things have regressed to “what time is it? DONG O CLOCK!”
For people who aren’t major theater geeks, here is some background: - There was controversy because people recorded Jesse Williams’ nude scene in the play Take Me Out and then posted the videos online. - There was a different controversy where Taron Edgerton dropped out of a play called Cock and was replaced by his understudy and the theater continued selling tickets at an outrageous price. - There’s been ongoing problems in musicals and plays where sometimes most of the cast has been covered by understudies or swings in order to save the show (Six, Heathers, The Music Man, etc.).
I know they made a joke about that one actor getting his nudes leaked while on Broadway. But what's the difference between that and when Daniel Radcliffe when on stage naked?
As a theatre designer who just opened a play in which they had to bring in understudies to cover the understudies… I am relating to this *so* damn hard.
We're fix'n to open ours this Friday (Distracted). While thankfully the full cast which I'm in took the necessary pre-cautions (everyone is vaccinated + booster + four straight weeks of rehearsals with masks on), this still hit "so damn hard" as my directors worse nightmare (She once directed a play where people were still "on-book" during tech week).
@@katharinehorowitz1709 I play "The Three Doctors" (Broder, Jinks, & Karnes). My Broder comes off would what would be best described Wolfman Jack with a Tommy Chong speech pattern. The most underrated parts of this in my opinion: Selena opening the door stage right when the sound came from stage left, the dogs also being understudies, the innocence of I'm sorry I don't have any money' and the fact that this play about an irish mother and daughter fighting somehow devolves into Seamus saying it's dong o clock

@@Tonyhouse1168 This was at Lakesite Community Theater (LCT) over in The Colony (I lived in Lewisville at the time so it wasn't a long commute). I know of Theatre Three and auditioned for them a couple of times but never got cast in anything. I like the point in the play when Kenan says, “Line”, and Cecily and Selena both ask “What” 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏻♀️, which causes Kenan to ask “What” 🤷🏾♂️. By then, the whole play is just a MESS 🤣
You have to appreciate how difficult it is to pull-off a comedy of errors so well, without actually flubbing unintentionally, asking for lines or direction, nor resorting to improvisation when a critical line or action is forgotten.
