You can thank the late Fred Silverman for that, bro. Aside from a couple of stinkers that year ("The Brady Bunch Hour" immediately comes to mind), Silverman singlehandedly reversed ABC's misfortunes practically overnight during the 1976-77 season, thanks almost entirely to "Happy Days," "Charlie's Angels," and, of course, the groundbreaking, Emmy Award-winning miniseries "Roots."

Eve wanted to get away from being typecast as a Brady. At the time she was doing alot of tv and movie work, unlike her television siblings. She also thought a singing and dancing Brady family was totally ridiculous. Thus, Geri Reichel “Fake Jan” was born!

I'm glad this is still up almost 4 yrs later:))) Was my 10th grade year, I didn't discover some of these until '78, maybe because of school/homework distractions, I know I was watching Happy Days, Charlie's Angels, Laverne and Shirley, Baretta, Starsky and Hutch, Six Million Dollar Man, and I think the ones that came later were Eight is Enough, (lost Diana Hyland in March of '77?) What's Happenin' and Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew.... loved all of these, it is rejuvenating to see this:) Like a cheerful sunlight into my brain!

+Chris Wells No probs. Though I should forewarn you, and others, that TH-cam's copyright infringement nonsense is beginning to get out of hand, so there may be fewer of these vids if they keep blocking my efforts. This one has given me about a dozen "infringements" which I've already contested. Once contested, they let it go until some nutcase decides he wants to give you a hard time and exercise his right to block the video worldwide - all it takes is one to do it. I've had about a handful blocked worldwide out of the over 145 I've uploaded so far, but these notices I keep getting are becoming more of a pain to deal with. We'll see how long this video will stay up before it might get blocked. I'll consider myself extremely lucky if all dozen complainants leave it alone.

You have to have a good lawyer to arrange clearances when you get to this level of archival excellence, and unfortunately pepper the video with today's commercials that suck.Be diligent and wise, you aren't the first to go down this road. Compromise is the necessary evil.

If you factor the inflation rate from 1977 to 2019, The Six Million Dollar Man would now be called The Twenty Six Million Dollar Man!!! I remember most of these shows except the show Dog and Cat which was only on from March to May of 1977, with a total of only 6 episodes. If Lee Majors from The Six Million Dollar Man had married Lindsay Wagner from The Bionic Woman, they could have started a new show called Bionic Babies.

The Brady Bunch Variety Hour was one of the most confusing things I remember seeing on television. Why were the many bland stars (well, minus one) of a sitcom hosting a variety show?
I remember Three's Company airing on Tuesday nights. I lived in a city with only two TV stations and they divided the ABC shows often airing them in other time slots or in the case of controversial shows (like Soap) airing them after the 11PM news.

Variety shows were busting out all over at that time. Very few had staying power but a few are memorable to those who were young then.I was astonished to see KIM BASINGER in Dog and Cat, as I've never even heard of it.There were some very noticeable spots with no audio and I suppose that either the audio quality was bad or clearance could not be obtained...a pity. Nancy Walker was a fine, fine actress and she had a large body of historic work on television.PS If you think VARIETY shows were strange in 1977, go look up Pink Lady and Jeff from the Fred Silverman fiasco era of 1980. NBC was really tripping out that year, although Alice Cooper performed Clones in a very innovative segment on that show. And thank God for Hill Street Blues in 1981, that and St. Elsewhere just about saved the NBC network.

So was Abe Vigoda starring as Fish in both Barney Miller and Fish at the same time? Sounds like a lot of work for a guy his age.
Also, as a kid I *really* missed the Lalo Schiifrin theme music from Starsky and Hutch when they changed it in the second season.

I watched many of these shows, among them “Family” and “Barney Miller”. Miller was just always well done and very funny. “Family” I watched because I wanted to see which family member was going to have the Crisis of the Week!! Mom, dad, older sister, brother, younger sister, or the puppy one of them drug home to create angst for 60 minutes. Oh, the woe created and the resolution heralded at the end. And Jo Ann Harris was a Stone Fox!!!

I wonder why Steve Austin just didn't eject. Evidently certain safety standards were not in place back in 77. (That was sarcasm by the way.) That Brady Bunch variety show made me vomit in mouth back in 77, still does today and I think the Donny and Marie show caused mild brain damage to most viewers.
