As a retired correctional officer I managed a community service program. Inmates working together for a cause are truly amazing; they exceed expectations. I was always so very proud of them.
as you also know, many of them are coerced into doing this. they also are not fast-tracked into employment as fire ‘fighters’ upon release, despite their experience. they are used as fire food during extremely volatile wildfires, then forgotten
@@califiasrevengeI have a really good friend who is now a fire fighter in LA and he got his start through this exact program so that's not always the case. And I would like to see evidence related to your "fire food" claim.. I think that's largely inaccurate.
I hope this becomes a life changing experience for these inmates. When people feel purposeful and appreciated, it's life changing. Yes, they should be compensated more. But there's something about volunteering, giving back, and being of service that makes people feel good about themselves. There was a study where people were offered a small amount of money to clean up a backyard. The people who did it felt they were being taken advantage of. They asked another group if they would volunteer to help clean the backyard of an elderly woman who just lost her spouse. This group felt good about what they had done. The study found that people would rather volunteer, than work for a small amount of money. The inmates should be given the option to get paid or volunteer and see what they say. Either way, nice work guys! Thank you!
I heard it was $10.34hr but regardless that's still not enough. This men are saving lives, not destroying them. They deserve a second chance. They deserve some recognition. God bless these men (and women)
The reason they get paid so low is because the department dont want them going back to prison just for the job. Remember inmates ARE NOT good people, they can't get a job in the normal way and so why would I want to pay my taxes for someone who commits a crime to have a guaranteed job on a livable wage while in prison?
They get paid $11 an hour when they are doing it on a daily but when it’s like this they get that plus an extra $1.00 an hour is what was reported on the news. Plus they have to pass a physical and mental evaluation before they are even allowed to become a firefighter and once they pass they also get time off sentence.
They should at least pay them the 'minimum wage of 7.25/ hour. Or whatever the minimum is in California for the temporary time that they are out there helping.

Love You Mr. Nick. TY to this elite group of men and also to 🇨🇦 & 🇲🇽 Firefighters. If you’re not helping any of these victims. Maybe you could help the state out and pay them what you fill is fair???🤔
😂🤣they were hiring ex offenders for some fire camp program which was cleaning up debris etc so I do feel like ex offenders who were trained should get more money for their pay not as much of course as a licensed Firefighter
Thanks guys! We appreciate all you did to fight the fire. I pray you're able to get some time off your sentence and are able to live a happy and productive life once released.
Nick Cannon is personal! He was in Cleveland, Ohio, a couple of years ago, at the House of Blues. I took my granddaughter to see JD McCray, who was traveling with NC, at the time. Nevertheless, he came off of the stage to engage with the audience, it was very endearing. So, I'm not surprised. Thank you NC for all you do!
Not only compensation in a trust for their release but also time off their sentence for every day they spend out training or fighting fires. Fair is fair.
They should be paid the full wage of their labor so they have money they can use to start a new life when they get out. They do real work and the state should never have an incentive to imprison people in order to coerce cheap labor out of them especially when the offenders were children when they were convicted and came out of ghettoized neighborhoods that the state is culpable for creating and perpetuating in the first place. Nothing in most of these men’s life has been fair, this is just slightly less unfair than the deeply unjust and broken standard carceral system that we have that they could be in. Yes it’s good to have prisoners contribute to their communities and no it’s not right to extract labor from them for pennies under coercion since those pennies will be quickly spent on overpriced “luxuries” like calling their family or soap.
Give them a good wage And Hours of exp towards a fire dept program looking for fire fighter After they get out even if its on call Or part time....Give them something to look forward to
$1 an hour is crazy given the risk anyone was taking. Nick shouldn't have taken his young daughter there though, he has has no idea what all those men were convinced of SMH
probably the best day out those prisoners had in a long time, contributing to society instead of creating havoc well it's a start...prisoners want to help head on instead of millionaires and there money.
That’s great. But let’s not forget why they are incarcerated…part of the punishment is to do service for the crime committed. We have many men and women who choose to be FireFighters not be told to go do it as a service for a crime….
Hope ET gives the message to all the "inmates" firefighters that across the world everyone is saying Thank you and Bless you. We are sorry that you are being paid so low and hopefully you get some rest, be protected from the fire and get a lot of time taken off of your jail sentences. We the people(working class) appreciate your hard work. It is unfortunate that all the multi-millionaires don't set up a fund that will compensate each of you separately into your accounts, that would be a true gesture of appreciation as it is all their homes that are mostly affected. Believe the layman firefighters are paid $25 - 30/hr ($55,000/year) and you are working straight 24 hour shifts for many days.
This is how they serve their sentence. They are full time fire fighters. They were mostly childhood offenders who graduated from Juvenile detention with serious convictions. They are redirected toward this program. They are taken to one of about 3 dozen concentration camps across the state where they do this full time. It’s still lock up but it’s substantially different from regular prison.
it’s $5/DAY, not $1/HR. also, it might as well be ZERO dollars because if the department of corrections shortens their sentences, they still face a HUGE BILL for being housed and fed while incarcerated. this ‘pay’ will be put towards paying down that bill, and of course it won’t be enough
I'm going to start saying this every time I see videos like this about firefighters that are in prison and working the people that they have doing these type of duties are the most trusted inmates they don't have random hardcore criminals doing these type of jobs.. stop with the narrative that all inmates are horrible people. If I get too many traffic tickets I can go to jail.. late on child support. Life be lifein. Some people they're consequences is jail they're not all bad people
Repeat offenders who are felons aren't bad people? Then what are they? People who repetitively make the same "mistakes" over and over? Come on, I am all for recidivism, but stop making drug charges, which carry a felony charge, seem like a parking ticket. These men are also paid this amount because they are inmates. They are fully aware of what they sign up for and while I thank their heroic acts, please stop the narrative that they were just handed a back deck of cards. SMH. THIS is why the prison systems are overcrowded because people refuse to place accountability on those who offend. We don't ALL commit crimes.
That’s the problem with her every thing is always about money. These are convicted criminals and they’re doing it for redemption. No money in the world is going to show them the honor they deserve for risking their lives to save others. The fact that they’re doing this for a dollar even makes them more honorable human beings.
Thank all of you gentlemen and thanks again 🙏

It's not. That's not true. They get $24 A DAY. $1 PER HOUR. Don't spread misinformation anymore.
