To answer that question about what the monsters are and how they are caused- it’s because of the radiation, lot of the monsters in the game used to be squids, or dogs and cats and the like. But the amount of radiation has completely changed them into beasts.
The war is between nations, no aliens or the like. It’s actually a really good story of how humanity never changes, even with only a few thousand people in the metro humanity will still find reasons to fight one another.

What are the dark ones exactly then? They look like alien humanoids that are advance enough to communicate telepathically and also read the memories of their entire race but they never really explain it unless they where always there but the only surviving ones where hibernating in D6 and they also don’t really explain where they went off too

Metro Series was made by a Ukraine based studio based on novels written by a young Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. The missiles you see were launched by foreign nations during a war on Russia which caused massive radiation causing animials like dogs cats and birds to mutate into monstrosities. People are forced to live in Metro stations due to such radiations and even there they formed factions like the Reds, Reichs, and so on and they would continue to fight each for political power.
This is one of my favorite story based games ever and I highly recommend playing it through for the sake of the story.

  • @JohnnyThief1

The Mutants you see are the actual animals that survived the war and mutated over time. In the game itself we play as a young man that was brought down into the Metros as a baby and have to fight our way through the Metro Stations, the city and different facilitys. It is not your standard shooter like CoD, it is a little harder and gives you a hard time if you just rush in (like in CoD).

Metro rocks! The only complaint I really have witht he series is that they made your player character, Artyom, a silent protag... for the most part. He's the narrator for that one trailer, he's also very philosophical. Metro has a book series as well. Wherin he's more or less the main character. So it feels strange to me that they made him a silent character in the games mostly. He talks between zones and when you load in, he keeps a journal and narrates entries during major loading screens. He's also (I think) the baby from the first trailer? That one's alot like Artyom's origin, but just a little off.

Most of the mutants shown were animals. The Nosalis, the ones in the tunnels, are a mutation of some species of rat or molerat, the flying Demons were bats and that one you called King Kong was a mutant bear. There are some human mutants, like the big hulking ones in the last trailer that weee reffered to as Librarians.

    • @SpearM3064
      @SpearM3064 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not convinced the Demons were bats, actually. Let's just say there's evidence that they were bats, other evidence that they were _tigers_ (or at least housecats), other evidence that they were reptiles, and evidence that they were genetic experiments like the Dark Ones and the biomass. So their origins are deliberately vague.

An interesting point in Metro is that even though the protagonist - Artyom - was born before the Nukes fell, and was raised within the tunnels of the Metro, in those few decades most of the Metro has forgotten thier old histories, or misremember them.
Many of the Children and young teenagers in the Metro have never seen the sun or the sky, and some believe the stories spun by thier elderly parents are little more than fairytales and that the Metro is all there is.
This loss of history extends to the larger groups in the Metro as well.
The Reich for example does not recall who founded the original Nazi’s or any of the events before the Nukes - remembering only that they once held great power and fought a grand war which they believe they won, and that the “losers” launched the Nukes to deny them ultimate victory.

The Metro games are based on a series of books, called Metro 2033, Metro 2034 and Metro 2035, written by Dmitri Gloukhovski. Metro Last Light is the second game in the series, and follows the events of the second book. Each book takes place in the year that is written in the title. Basically, in 2013, a nuclear war took place between the US and Russia. As you can imagine, the war didn't last long, and ended with the destruction of most of the world. Or at least, it's assumed so, since we only get the perspective of the survivors of Moscow, who took refuge in the metro tunnels. During the 20 years between the war and the first book/game, the surviving animals on the surface evolved rapidly to endure the radiations, transforming them into horrible monstrosities.
The character that you play, Artyom, was just a little kid when the bombs fell, and longs to find a place where humans can thrive again, away from the metro tunnels that are now engaged in bloody wars, basically what the world was before the nuclear war but at a much lower scale.
Regarding gameplay, the game is not as action-filled as the trailer shows. It's a balance between a FPS and a survival-horror game. You have phases in which you fight monsters, phases in which you fight humans (there's a hidden karma system that determines the ending you get, and it's highly dependent on whether you kill humans in gun fights, or use stealth and knock them unconscious), and exploration phases where you move through desolate places. Exploration phases are, ironically, the scariest parts of the game, because you witness things that aren't quite natural.
Overall, the game series is amazing, on every aspect. Story-telling, world building, characters, ambience, gameplay and soundtrack, it's a bit sad that it's not as popular as other titles, because everything creates a unique feel that you can't find in any other game.

The thing I love most about these games, is their humanity. The metro is alive and the people are a lot more real than what I've seen in games. There's a whole other story that these trailers didn't even touch on, so I won't spoil, but amongst the human stories is something else that drives our main character. It's very dark, yes, but the goal is to get humanity back into the light.

Despite the broken future that could've been the Metro. Despite how dystopian, when i hear those few guitar chords, i feel right at home, in the metro. I hate how deeply humanity always feels the need to kill itself. I played killing as few people as possible, despite the fact that usually im all for violence in games. Humanity needs to do better, that's what i believe is the moral of the story.

It's post WW3 the mutations are kind of a blend in the books at some points its implied that there was already monsters lurking in the world and they just came crawling out when mankind lost dominion over the earth then theres a lot in the games and books that say it was a blend of biological weapons and nuclear fallout that made them but theres not really anything that specifically states what caused the mutations like Fallouts FEV viruse.

im only at half way through the first book, but i played all the games, and i don't think the origin of the creatures is ever revealed, tho at the same time there is no mention of alien origin or the likes, also they are extremely widespread and various, wich at least makes it unlikely to be created willingly, and they often resemble animals (or even human to some extent), so the classic "mutation through radiation" is largely the cause, even if a bit pseudo siencey

  • @b3rz3rk3r9

The Metro series is a harsh one, a dark one, and, to many, fairly nihilistic. It's a world torn apart by radiation, mutation, war and strife, etc. Even America didn't escape it.
And yet, there are moments that remind you of the good in humanity, the kindness and self-sacrifice in protecting others. It's beautiful in a way.
If you ever choose to, I can't recommend the games enough. I even like Exodus for the upgrades to the Shambler and the storytelling. It just hit nicely with what the surface has been going through.
I'm also considering getting the books, including the omnibus of fan stories and Outpost, which is Dmitri Glukhovsky bringing the Metro into America

In fact, Metro as a game is pretty good, but that's how the story personally I liked 50-50. There's a lot to dig into from a technical and plot point of view, but the post-apocalypse atmosphere of the game is fantastic. The developers are doing well in this regard. But in a story game, personally, I would like to grab onto something or someone for which I will go through the plot. Here, my views coincide with the main character, because he wants to go for his loved ones at the VDNKH station (if anything, this is a Moscow metro station). But along the way we are introduced to two groups with opposing views and... drum roll. They are trying to level them for us. So damn, I immediately have a dissonance because of this. Well, as an example, can we say that black and white are the same thing? Well, this is nonsense!😂
In general, the game is a good game, I recommend it. I didn't play the third part, I only know 1 and 2. Somehow. In general, the game is about the post-apocalypse after a nuclear war. And yes, there are no aliens here, sort of.😄

Metro is basically humanity struggle of surviving after WW3 nuclear devastation, Artyom has a immunity to the Blacks/Dark ones, in this game you learn that at young age he was adopted by them when he "broke" his home station restrictions and opened a blast door at the garden, his young mind at time adapted to the Dark ones communication ability of telepathy, and the way the say "God died" in certain areas of the metro tunnel system and on surface there are trapped souls of the fallen be it ghost trains or ghost soldiers still defending long fallen barricades to reliving last moments of a airliner and all passanger as it falls from sky after Nuke fall and the EMP effect destroys planes systems, the Metro consists of 4 factions the Reds, Nazis, Polis and Sparta Order
Reds and Nazis are the biggest of the faction both regressing back to WW2 Ideologies, Polis is the Metro systems police for and Council guards and Sparta Order is the monster hunters and the smallest of all factions consisting of around 300 hand picked soldiers,
The D6 silo is headquarters of the Sparta Order and is holds lost technology of dangerous uses, reason behind Reds and Nazis looking for it, Artyom found D6 along with Sparta Order when trying to find a way to combat the Dark ones
Artyoms second goal was to uncover origin of radio signals he detected in first game when calling in attack on dark ones
Metro exodus his him and anna discovering the truth about signals origin and the results of their discovery is the train journey

I think Last Light is the second game in the series and you already saw the third game trailers? Moving in reverse. Last Light roughly follows the novels whereas in the first game you have the option to diverge and have a "good ending", one where you don't repeat the mistakes of the past. Thankfully, the canon ending is not all bad and the situation is not as bleak as the "bad ending" first appears once you make it into Last Light.

There is the rare phenomenon of "the book is always better than the movie that goes with it"
I have written essays about this in school and university and with proper research, I can say even if you don't have high standards: This phenomenon is not true, just like that of bad sequels, but for that you have to make an effort.
    JAWS (biased)
The Green Mile. (3 hours movie and you don't get bored for a minute of it).
Shining (Very rare case of book and movie are equal)
Here we have the rare case of "book into game".
And the story of Artjom the protagonist is deeply philosophical and shows the nonsense and horror of war and a possible scenario for the future.
But the books are quite terrible..although they tell the same story, but in the game at least you have good characters and action in between....
    The books make you depressed.
The setting is great. I really like the games, they have such brilliant atmosphere. But my god, the book's execution. I don't know who the most blame should go to - the writer, the translator, or the editor - or all three. But the prose is dire. It doesn't flow one bit. Clunky, clumsy, unnatural, dry, obtuse, dense, over-wordy, extremely repetitive, and rife with errors that an editor should have caught. Hell, even the metro station maps have errors on them - so good luck following the journey!
The paragraphing, my god, the paragraphing. I know that sounds like a silly thing to complain about, but it seriously knocked off at the very least 1 star from the rating , and was the biggest reason this book took me so long to read. I have books from the 18th and 19th century with better paragraphing than this. There is no excuse for a 21st century novel. Great thick walls of text, with plenty of opportunities for a paragraph break missed, while others seemingly randomly chosen. More than once I encountered three-page walls of text without a single break, for no good reason. It's not atmospheric, it's not intense, it's just incredibly dull and hard to parse. I ended up using a bookmark on the page to quicker line-read the book, something I never normally need to do.

Moebius, that 1 that is a single moment and the camrea takes you through the scene. Love that 1. Just how it seems like the man was saving himself form all the horrible stuff going on in the sation, even abandoning his kid. But at the end you see the rangers comming in (which i guess you need context for that but the rangers are kind of the super skilled monster killing good guys of the series) and it ends with the relization that the man ran out of ammo and is trying to save the station. Great story telling.
Honestly do not like how they just flat out tell you it was a nuke that caused all this. In the books it kind of makes you work for it. It's far enough in the future (after the bombs) that everyone has a theory about whats going on and you have to peice it together. Kind of turns the game into another Fallout when it lost that mystery.

TLDR: the metro is filled with nazis and communists and mutated monsters with few places for safety. The surface is covered in radiation and the truly scary mutants.
Also hope you guys play lies of P on livestream it’s really good

I have played all of the three games. I have also read all of the three books. The books especially are something else entirely. And in a good way. Very atmospheric and gloomy.

I personally prefer 2033 I think but last light is still phenomenal, terrifying, and immersive on a level unmatched by any other game

Fun fact: the story is written by a Russian, the game is made by Ukranians. Also try the games, they are awesome, though the order is 2033->Last Light->Exodus, so you started with the ending :) in your reactions

In all honesty. I played last light to make a critique review for a college course and it sadly fell flat hard. Even on the most optimized pc the game was constantly stuttering and nearly unplayable. Apparently the first game is actually really good but my interest was destroyed hard after playing its sequel.

The Metro series has always struggled with PC optimization, they're fine on console but you usually have to wait a few years before they run well on PC

@deltahalo241 yeah it's just too bad I did it when it came out cause I just lost so much interest in trying anything aside from looking at lore shit.

It pisses me of that you didn't get the obvious story plots like it is so clear what is going on.

Well,Biblically speaking, Armageddon is the last battle between good and evil,it is either at second coming of Jesus Christ when He with all of His saints and angels fights against satan and his army and obviously wins although, since God says vengeance is mine, there is a theory that Jesus will Himself all alone come to fight satan and his army. I know this channel isn't a place to post such things but as a Christian,i must say that absolutely all the signs of Jesus's very soon return have all converged this year and i am not talking about second coming but when He snatches up and resurrects all the believers and they meet Him in the clouds and they all go to Heaven and then judgment starts and if this happens this year as i believe it will then second coming would be in 2030.
I don't mean to scare anybody but it is my duty as a watchman to warn of what's coming.
That aside,i did play this video game before and i loved it. The story is indeed beautiful and touching.
