The largest board/card game community I was part of that isn’t Marvel Champions is Android:Netrunner. It’s so large the community kept the game alive even after FFG let it die

I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS HAWKEYE SLANDER!!!!!!!!!!
He is one of the best, most versatile heroes in the game. His arrow can cover near any situation (massive damage, thwarting, minion control) and his quiver lets him store them away if you don't need them at that moment but will likely in the future. My first Ronan victory was with my fav team up Black Widow/Hawkeye (Love it when a thematic team-up is powerful). I was going to go on about how Valkyrie is given a bad rap but now I don't wanna. (But seriously the only bad heroes to me were most of the 4 handers before SP//DR's pack came out with Limitless Stamina and such) Admittedly I mainly got Valkyrie's pack when I did for the extra Preparation cards.
For deck limits I just say what goes into the main deck counts towards the limit. If it doesn't go in it doesn't count (I never put the claws in since it made no sense. I like to eliminate unnecessary shuffling).
I am surprised we haven't gotten a Deadpool articles. They have been doing them every other week for awhile now its been 3 weeks since X-23. At least we are waiting on the known hero not a mystery one.

One other thing to bring up with the Desperate Defense card. You were totally correct that you can play it off of another defense card. What you maybe didn't make super clear is that, the only effect of desperate defense that you can get is the "Ready if you took no damage". While you technically get the +2 DEF to your DEF stat, the only way to apply your DEF stat to reducing the amount of damage you are taking is by making a basic defense. The 1.5 RRG did add a little rule that says when a card ability says "declare [a hero] the defender" they are considered to be making a basic defense, but I believe that only effects the one card from Valkyrie's kit.

I'm new to Shadowcat. The very first thing I learned is the solid and phased timing/trigger have two different responses. Solid (Response) Phased (Forced Response). If you like Powerful Punch when playing Green, end your player phase on Solid. One of the very few times you would want to do this. Villain Phase: Player Attacks, then you can choose to Respond while on Solid, then flip to phased, then Shadowcat's protected/defense (without exhausting) against the Villain's attack. Once the Villain's ATK is resolved, you trigger the Forced Response and start the next player phase in Solid, as we want.

@D20Woodworking would you make a video, showing all the scenarios of defending discussed in this thread. It would be a big help to many folks.

I won't lie but I love Valkyrie in weapon based aggression since she comes with her own weapons that don't exhaust for their abilities which allows you to easily use Mean Swing and Fusillade for big, non-minion based damage. You can even include Pulse Grenades for extra weapon exhaust fodder as they're weapon upgrades without the restricted key word which is extremely useful.

We should talk more about Valkyrie: She has the honor of having an awful mess of a hero kit where the sum of the cards is somehow less than the individual parts. Props to you for seeing the challenge in that (sincerely), I've banned her to the never played zone myself after playing her in every aspect. I've got little enough time with this game as is.

Haha, yeah if you don't have the ability to play the game a ton, I get it. Wanting to play others you know you can have more fun with.

I might be getting this wrong (or might misunderstand the explanations):
    - Wouldn't playing "Desperate Defense" itself make the hero playing it defending? (When a player initiates a triggered ability labeled as a defense-such as “Hero Interrupt (defense)”- during an enemy attack, that player’s identity becomes the defender and is considered to have defended the attack if there is not already a defender. Rules Reference p.13)?
Of course, playing the card would give anything except you being the defender, since you need to use Defend [Basic Power] to get the bonuses.
    - Actually, I'm not sure where I picked it up but I assumed when playing Preemptive Strike would make you a Defender because it played after the boost card has been flipped.
(Which might be wrong. But then if you become a defender you can actually use defend [basic power] because you have to decide whenever you use Defend [Basic power] before the boost card flipped right?)

Ya know, I think with 1.5 you can now play desperate defense off itself. That's so weird. That second bullet point is new and kinda points to that card specifically:
Abilities that trigger “when your hero defends
against an attack” can be triggered when resolving
      a defense-labeled ability
That's really weird but yes, you wouldn't get the bonuses from it though, you could now just be the defender. And I guess if the villain did no damage somehow you would also get to ready if you were already exhausted from a previous thing...
Also as far as preemptive strike you would become the defender but you wouldn't be able to exhaust. (From my understanding).
Page 8. Enemy attacking heroes. Second point is you exhaust or someone else does. Then 3rd point it goes into flipping cards over and interrupts and all that fun stuff. So exhausting your hero would have had to already happen.
Some of these rules man, you can get crazy with haha.
EDIT: OK so I talked to discord. Desperate Defense will not trigger itself because of page 20 initiating abilities. Desperate defense to trigger would be step 6 of the process but you never did step 1 so you can't trigger it. WOAH that was a mind bender for a while

In order to play desperate defense (DD), you have to be defending already. You can’t just play DD without exhausting your hero to make yourself the defender. If you don’t exhaust, you could play another defense card (so you are now defending) first. At that point though, what is the point of using DD?
For Preemptive Strike, the windows the exhaust your hero to defend has passed by the time you can play it. If you don’t exhaust, you’re going to take base damage from the attack.

@@D20Woodworking @TheVlad1616 So basically while the Rules Reference book says you can become a defender by playing a defend card, you can only do that by playing counterpunch since it is the only defense card that doesn't have the "When you hero/character x defense"? (going by this search)
(And you can only play cards with "When you hero/character x defense" when you are already defending?)

@@CoyotesOwn No there are a few. Defiance does it, Jump Flip, Side Step, they all do. There may be more I am missing.

    • @CoyotesOwn
      @CoyotesOwn ปีที่แล้ว

@@D20Woodworking Ok I get Defience since it triggers on boost card flip.
But Jump Slip and Side Step have "When you would take any amount of damage" so wouldn't you'd be only able to play them as a response to taking damage? (So after the defenders have been established?)
(Through it they work then I think Wiggle Room and Crosscounter should work too)
Bulletproof Belle should work since it triggers an attack by an enemy with Touched. And so would Mutant protectors.

I don’t have Valkyrie yet (though you are trying to get me to get her) but Hawkeye is my least favorite for sure. He’s squishy, has zero upside to going to AE, and a crappy hero action.
