She was *much* happier when the stubble began to grow in again! Ah, the things we do for our dogs…🥰

I think dogs ASSUME we've died when we don't come back for a long time. Their reaction to smell is instantaneous: they can't believe their EYES but they don't doubt their NOSE. So sweet to have a friend 'come back to life'
100% agree with that. My pup was six months old when I got in a really bad motorcycle accident. Luckily my parents were able to take care of her. When I was finally in a place where I could be wheeled outside the hospital and greet her she acted just like this. I absolutely think she believed she had lost me forever and think this is why our bond is so strong now, though I don't recommend this method.

Dog psychologists believe dogs celebrate like this or when you come home far later than expected because in their minds, when you leave for work everyday, you are leaving to go on the hunt (yes, even if your dog eats kibble, you must be hunting for kibble) and when you don’t return at your scheduled time, they become fearful you were bested at the hunt so they celebrate when you finally come home and are so enthused that you are ok!
I love how realistic this is. Like he needs to know her scent too. Of course her hears her voice but he's like "um who's this" and then he gets close and finally smells her and it's like recognition kicks in.
I can't imagine how heartbroken the soldier must have felt when Murphy first didn't want to get close to her. The immense relief when he finally took a good sniff at mom. ❤❤
Uniform didn't help. Solid blocks of like colors are hard for dogs to visually comprehend, it unsettles them. I had a dog growing up that never barked, he was sooo nice to everyone, but when the FedEx driver showed up it was world war 3. That dude was convinced we had a really mean dog, when he was the sweetest, gentlest thing in the world. Good thing dogs rely on their smell so much!
I rescued an abused Pitbull that I named Nemo. I trained him to be a therapy dog. When he was adopted, I had one condition, if for any reason, that the person I allowed him to be adopted by could not take care of him anymore, the dog would return to me. Fast forward 5 years and I was called to pick up Nemo. He was in the owners car but once he got close enough to scent me, he jumped out and dove into me. He was the sweetest pupper. He lived for a few more years and had a good life. If there had ever been a dog that should have turned out vicious it was him. He was horribly abused and disfigured. He turned out to be a love bug.

I love how realistic this is. Like he needs to know her scent too. Of course her hears her voice but he's like "um who's this" and then he gets close and finally smells her and it's like recognition kicks in.

I can't imagine how heartbroken the soldier must have felt when Murphy first didn't want to get close to her. The immense relief when he finally took a good sniff at mom. ❤❤

Uniform didn't help. Solid blocks of like colors are hard for dogs to visually comprehend, it unsettles them. I had a dog growing up that never barked, he was sooo nice to everyone, but when the FedEx driver showed up it was world war 3. That dude was convinced we had a really mean dog, when he was the sweetest, gentlest thing in the world. Good thing dogs rely on their smell so much!

I think people don’t realize that dogs rely on their sense of smell rather than sight more often than not. He just needed a minute to recognize her.

I rescued an abused Pitbull that I named Nemo. I trained him to be a therapy dog. When he was adopted, I had one condition, if for any reason, that the person I allowed him to be adopted by could not take care of him anymore, the dog would return to me. Fast forward 5 years and I was called to pick up Nemo. He was in the owners car but once he got close enough to scent me, he jumped out and dove into me. He was the sweetest pupper. He lived for a few more years and had a good life.
If there had ever been a dog that should have turned out vicious it was him. He was horribly abused and disfigured. He turned out to be a love bug.

@@june5877 they said they were going to take care of their mother and she didn't like dogs. It was ok to me I loved Nemo. Sweetest Pitty ever. He wagged his whole body when he wagged his tail.
