Celebrating David Hockney at 80

He's been dubbed one of the 'greatest living artists' in the world. He's won more accolades than you can count on two hands and his paintings sell for millions of dollars. And, as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York celebrates his life's work with a retrospective, David Hockney says he has no plans to slow down. Jade Barker sat down with the artist to talk about his career, living in the present and his love of California.

i love listening to this gentleman speak despite his fame and no doubt wealth he just seems an incredibly nice, kind, humble and obiously incredibly talented and eloquent gentleman he puts on no airs and graces his lovely yorkshire accent and mannerisms are still there despite decades living in california, i wish there were more like him, long may you continue to paint Mr Hokney!

If only he had stayed with his beginnings, with his immediate and intense renderings of time and space - rather than yearning to be able to draw - to be Rousseau, to be "what"? He's ended up being a naive wanna be instead of the great expressionist he "was".
