I actually like though that there is this undercurrent of hope, like this is in the middle of the story (you know, usually where in seasons 1-4 Wukong would vanish anyways) and this time, the stakes are more personal because of the other Celestial Apes being involved. (At least that is what I am choosing to believe because otherwise AAAAAAAH-) (Also, I see Chikao there with the Seven-Star Sword!! THE DETAILS!)

I am going a wild guess here. Wukong's immortality has reached it's end and Diting is obviously involved with this trick, which is possible a callback on him "erasing" his name. My take is that "flame" around their hair, because it's look broken, so he is not exactly dead per say, but returning to his original form, a rock. So it's not exactly sad, but bitter and melancholic. Kudos!
The funny thing is that I thought about this for a while now and when I saw I then tear up and enjoyed this, now I really want to know this story board now, I love your videos
This was so beautiful. Wukong has been alive for so long, and there was never an end for him. Although it’s sad, and he’s leaving people behind, he finally gets an end that he’s okay with. And Macaque hugging MK at the end killed me😭❤️. Thank you so much for this amazing animatic!!

MK grew strong enough to stand on his own, and Mankey King can be esily brought back at any point of a plot if nessesery through some kind of a found cure to the stone.
