    I. Love. All. Typewriters. They. Are all. Beautiful.

I too love the woodgrain. Such an anachronism on a typewriter like you said, but the machine wears it like a badge of honor representing the time period it was made in.

Ya, it's a noisy machine--gotta love it. I have the Coronet Electric 12, when typing at night it's one of those in the basement with the downstairs door closed things: Hoping the echo is mimed; the problem becomes it's noise travels through the furnace/AC ductwork and right back upstairs to those sleeping (making you think and type a little faster to get done with letter ).

I watched this video yesterday and was inspired to use my 1952 Skyriter to type out a few homemade cards. Thanks, Joe!

Thanks! You gave me some good ideas. I appreciate your videos. I'am a typewriter lover. My first one was a Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe that my mom bought to me for doing my school homework. Good memories!!

I would guess that the rise of 12" carriage portables in the 60's was due to companies need to reduce the number of models in the later 60's for manufacturing efficiency. This meant converging the "types" of machines so that most desktop models were cut, mid-sized portables were condensed down to a few models with 12" carriages to fill in the gaps, and ultraportables became the "letter-sized" machines. By the mid-70's the Galaxie Twelve was pretty much the only mid-sized model in SCM's catalog. (:

The ribbon working well in the electric when it didn't work well in the manual makes me wonder if TW ribbons are typically manufactured differently for manual VS electric. If you wanted to type on A4 paper in landscape orientation, you'd need at least 11.7" platen width. Perhaps Smith Corona upped their carriage width so they could sell more TWs outside of the US?

Thank you Joe. Your video directly influenced me to get out the Hermes 3000 and write to my Brother and his wife for Christmas, I really enjoyed the process too. Boy those Hermes 3000's (I have the 70's version) really are stunning to type on. Unfortunately, everything else just feels "meh" in comparison.

Great video. I have not used my electrics In some time now. I might have to get one of those out, also I have not tried smaller paper yet. I have been writing letters almost every day recently. Thanks for sharing--Colin

Those ribbons from MIchaels usually cost around $9.99 in store, so yeah, less expensive certainly isn't what they are by a longshot. Pay more for less in those cases.
I know I've said it before, but Smith Coronal electrics truly are the signature pieces in my collection. Especially the two Electra 120's I have, one early model and one later, along with one similar to yours that uses those Coronamatic cartridges - it's an absolute beast of a machine and was the champion tough-guy in my collection until I got my Selectric ;)
Smith Corona's are already top tier machines, but the electrics? No one should turn one down if they get a chance and have space, I think most people really would be surprised once you get going on one just how great it is, for a non-manual.

Hi Joe, I very much enjoy your videos, and the Coronet Automatic 12 is a beauty. Question: What brand and model is the fountain pen you hold up at 10:30? It looks transparent, like what they used to call a "demonstrator pen" in bygone days. Thanks, and --Best wishes for the Holidays! --David

It's a TWSBi fountain pen. Built in screw-driven piston fill via bottled ink. Here's a link: www.twsbi.com/collections/frontpage/products/twsbi-diamond-580-clear-fountain-pen
