This is 100% true. I used to be a perfumers intern for Estée Lauder (they make tom Ford fragrances). The perfumers are given a budget and a task to make scents; there’s no specific requirements to make it for MEN NOR WOMEN. They are given the creative liberty to do as they please. Once they are done, they would give it to the “boards” which consist of Estée Lauder’s head of beauty, other perfumers, director, Tom ford himself, etc... they then VOTE if it should be “masculine”, unisex or “feminine”. Once they figure that out, they push it out to the marketing team for name, bottle design, colors, etc...

My ex bought me BO for Christmas two years ago. For me personally, it's far too feminine for my liking. Not that that's a bad thing whatsoever, but I think it's very important for men to know EXACTLY what they are getting with this fragrance. Bold, rich, sweet, heavy, long-lasting, and feminine.
If I could put a face on the fragrance of Black Orchid, it would be Russel Brand. Does that make sense?

@@miklas.k I have both the EDP and Parfum. As a male, I much rather prefer the Parfum as it stays pretty much the same as the opening for the entire time, while the EDP becomes more floral with time imo. Both perform great
My opinion echoes yours exactly - I could care less what's "masculine" or "feminine." I wear Black Orchid EDT on occasion because I just love how it smells! Even the EDT has insane silliage and longevity. Gotten many compliments, and you can almost guarantee you won't smell like any other man around...if you can pull it off, it's a fun one to wear

I’ve worn black orchid as my signature scent for years now. It last forever, always get compliments, and to be honest… I didn’t even know it was “for women” but I’m not changing now 🙈🤣

Just placed my order, such a good line from TF. Id say the EDT balances the notes better but I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the EDP. It’s such a polarizing edible inducing masterpiece.
I’ve just got a decant of this and I’m really surprised. I find it so much more wearable than the original. I’m liking it.

I adore the TF Black Orchid perfume. Just ordered the body oil. This is probably my all time favorite perfume, especially in the cooler months. It's very well formulated.
Can’t wait to try this one. Love the EDP on my GF (and I have a small decant I enjoy myself) but this sounds great also.

i bought a sample of black orchid to test it out thinking i wouldn't like it or i'd be on the fence. sprayed it once, and i'm in love. as a college student, i'm willing to heavily save money to get this in the next 3 months lol

Love your reviews mate, really appreciate the honesty. I have a sample of the eau de parfum, i love it and find it extremely intoxicating - but it does lean a touch too feminine for me to wear. I will give the parfum a go though, as based on what you have said this could be the one for me. cheers.
what is longevity like compared to the original, does this new one last alot longer? shame its not released in UK yet! sounds great, i have the original, and i want this new parfum one
It's really very good. Both are great but the Parfum is still very lively on the dry down. Lasts longer.

I say Yaaaaaaeeeeessssss! I am over the top in love with the unapologetic juicy, commanding and straight up silky vibe of the parfum edition. Holy smokes!!! The level of sophistication has been amped up and for me, the fact that it doesn’t SHOUT you are entering the building is a GOOD thing! There is definitely enough projection and silage to mark your announcement as it is without a doubt, a seductive, refined and alpha scent for those who dare. MEOW!

So I got a sampler of this. I was unsure about a "unisex" fragrance, as I've had bad experiences in the past. I tend to wear BdC EdP, Sauvage, AdG Essenza, MMM Jazz Club, etc. Pretty "manly" scents.
This stuff though, is magic. The other offers are scents, this is an "aura." It's very potent but so warm and inviting. I can't stop smelling myself while I'm wearing it. One spray to the chest before getting dressed and then dab both wrists.
It's intoxicating. I'm buying a bottle next week, I need this permanently in my life

I dont know about you, but I love smelling a nice fragrance on myself around the house. If I am not wearing a fragrance I feel like my day hasn't began, such a great mood booster!

idk what you're talking about, where I'm at people are socialising with no mask (only for transport or shops) but I still go out with my frags on and have a good time with mates

Thanks robin that definitely on to try list. I know what you mean about male and female fragrances. Recently I tried Penhaligans Yasmine which is meant to be a woman's fragrance but gosh what a scent it was. Totally hypnotic with boozy fruits. I think it's more masculine as well. Have you tried it and what did you think ?

life saver. I pretty much have zero fashion sense LOL but I'm trying to step it up and part of my step up is getting...mature?...cologne. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks fragrances are just fragrances and this whole for women for men thing is silly. Anyways, thank you for this I was struggling to decide on what to buy. Just paid for the original Black Orchid from Zalora even though i hv no idea how it smell like. But from what i've been reading, the base might smell like Narciso Rodriguez (all black bottle)

I'm 6,1, 16 stone musclur build and I've had a bottle of this, so not for ladies. If you want a scent to make an impact then this will.
The newer one I find is marketed unisex in their own website. 🤔 interesting
If you notice, everything is becoming unisex now, i thnik saying for men, restricts their sales potential

Umm..It wears different for me..The EDP projects more and last longer - which is weird because the Parfum should be more potent. If Tom is asking me for more money I'm not looking for subtle.

Try the TF extreme noir.
Sadly, I loved the 2006 Black Orchid and am not a fan of the 2020 version. I would LOVE to purchase a bottle of the older version that anyone would like to get rid of!!
The 2020 version is more geared towards men and I love that.

I’ve moved away from the original Black Orchid, I found it quite... consuming perhaps? Too overwhelming for me.
I’m really loving Loewe’s 001 Man edp now.

My only issue with it is the bottle is Gold, how gaudy, the original is my signature

Hello, I recently bought black orchid edp, and have a feeling like there's smth wrong. Cause I've heard a lot of reviews saying it's super long lasting fragrance and etc. but after I spray it I can barely smell anything in 1 hour. I love the smell but just a bit upset with the performance. What is your opinion? (Btw have no doubts on the originality, bought for full price from Bloomingdale's, specially to avoid fakes) and I spray good 4-5 times in different parts of a body, to be clear
Make sure you use a non fragrance moisturiser first

Out of those you listed, for summer, you’ll need to go with Oud Wood. The others are too dark and are suited for late fall and winter.

It’s the concentration of scent. Perfumes have more oils, eu de perfumes have slightly less, eu de colognes have less than eu de parfume and so on
