    Love a jacaranda but...planted a small specimen two years ago in a full sun position and it has grown straight up to a height of 6 metres and is continuing! No branches at all.. Leaves form as small 'fans' out of the main stem then die and drop off. Onwards and upwards we go with a plume of new growth at the top!!

    Wow! We just planted our jacaranda, husband paid a lot for that tree from the nursery and it arrived without leaves I would send you the picture but I can’t. I am very concerned that they give us a dead tree. When should it start expose new leaves? Las Vegas area. Thanks if you see this comment. Looks like you’re professional

      @woodlandpermaculture4023  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I'm totally not a professional. Just a gardener. But you should be able to tell if it's alive. Scratch the trunk or a branch and see if it's green underneath, not brown and dry. It should also at least have buds where leaves will grow. I don't know what the temps are there right now but if it's still cold it may still have a good chance of coming out. Oh and make sure you water it deeply weekly for the first couple of summers because I know it gets hot and dry there.

      @@woodlandpermaculture4023 thank you , it has some signs of life, we’ll just keep watering it extra, waiting for buds to come out. Called the nursery, they convinced us it’s ok and if not we’ll get the refund, but it’s not about money. Thanks for your support!

      @@Aleona0912 I'm so glad you're seeing some signs of life! Keep up the good work. Some nitrogen, like compost, would be good to add to promote leaf growth.

    so I just had one planted a month ago. I live in central Florida and it is now fall. Is it normal for the leaves to start turning brown?

    • @jennywood3450
      @jennywood3450 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It could be from the shock of planting. They may turn brown in the cold but mine hasen't yet this year. It's now more established though. It will likely come back when the weather is warmer. Just make sure to water it if it's not raining.

    I planted a small ( 12" ) Jacaranda over a year ago . It has grown to about 25 feet but it never branched out, just straight up. It gets full sun from east to west. Anything I can do to encourage it to spread ? I live in northeast Florida .

    • @woodlandpermaculture4023
      @woodlandpermaculture4023  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that is huge growth! I'm assuming it has at least one or two branches? I don't know a ton about jacarandas but other trees, if you prune the tip of a branch, more branches will come out the sides where leaves are. That might work. I would do that in January or February when the tree is least active and before the growth season starts. When I pruned my jacaranda, more branches grew.

      According to another comment below, you probably should not prune it. I did not know this when I pruned mine. However I have not seen any adverse effects from my pruning. Really, I would check with a better expert. I am not one

    I have a huge question!!! A bird has left a seed and I've started growing a jackaranda close to my house and I've left it for awhile it's taller then me and I'm really wanting to move it, am I able to move it or is it too late? Some help would be amazing from anyone!!

    • @woodlandpermaculture4023
      @woodlandpermaculture4023  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you can move it but dig pretty far out from the trunk to make a large root ball to try to protect the roots as much as possible. Have the receiving hole already dug so you can easily transfer it.

    Are there any that grow in Montana?

    • @woodlandpermaculture4023
      @woodlandpermaculture4023  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am so sorry I don't know! But the Google AI answer said they are unlikely to grow well in Montana because they don't really tolerate temps below 25 degrees.
      I'm sorry.

      I'm sorry, but I don't know what a mud pot is. If you mean a terra cotta or other large pot, then I don't see why not. But it likely won't get as big as one planted in the ground.

    Hi there i’ve been searching and landed on this video… 😀 i live in Houston TX where our soil type is usually clay to loam soil (zone V 9b). I have my jacaranda for a year now and bought it around 5years old. My question is how can i help it grow flowers?

    • @woodlandpermaculture4023
      @woodlandpermaculture4023  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a really good question! I am struggling to get mine to Bloom as well. I think that mine isn't getting enough sun. That would be my first suggestion is to make sure it's getting plenty of Sun through the day. I also know that bone meal tends to encourage flowering in plants. So you may try that as well. I put some on recently and am going it helps Otherwise I'm still pretty new at all of this.

    Never prune a jacaranda tree, it will weaken it and ruin it's shape. You can bend it slowly to your desired shape.
    It's possible that your tree has been pruned or damaged, before you bought it.
    We grow all our jacaranda from seed and get them in their forever place as soon as possible. Water everyday for the first six months, just a little will do. Water regularly for the next 18 months, twice a week.
    Stand back and watch it grow, literally.

    • @woodlandpermaculture4023
      @woodlandpermaculture4023  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the tips! I so wish I had known you were out there before I pruned it! I will keep watering it and keep watching it grow and helping it to become its best shape. But I won't prune it again.

    • @woodlandpermaculture4023
      @woodlandpermaculture4023  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@trangdieu5859 when I got the tree, it was a few years old, maybe three and I was told it had already bloomed. But after I planted it last year, it didn't bloom. I think it wasn't getting enough sun because of another tree. I've printed that bigger tree back and hope it will bloom this year.

    • @kezzatries
      @kezzatries 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@trangdieu5859 sorry to not reply earlier, I was a little off colour.
      Anyways, you will find that your Jacky will like a warm/hot humid climate, we live in a hot dry climate. late spring to mid autumn I keep the grounds around my younger trees damp, by very lightly watering them a few times or more per day.
      That first year, if planted as a seedling say 6 to 8 inchs tall can see them grow 6 to 10 ft,
      I planted a 8 inch seedling in October it is already 7 ft tall.
      Flowering can be a fickle thing, someone will flower in their 2nd or third year, some can take 10.
      They flower first then the new leaves appear, then the flowers fall off leaving a beautiful carpet of purple. Some don't like the mess, I do, it's my 50 acres, I don't care what others think lol.
      Just don't prune their height off, they don't look right flowering on branches going straight up, in my opinion.
      Good luck, and have fun.
