Yeah, so many missed passes that could’ve ended up in the back of the net, that missed punch leading to a corner, getting beaten at the near post again, not saving a ball shot straight at him
1 mistake xavi and flick both have made is as soon as we get a red card lewandoski needs to be subbed off and add in a player that can press the keeper and defenders
Eric wasn't forced to bring the attacker down. It was boneheaded on both parts. Eric shares just as much of the blame for getting himself sent off as MAtS does for putting him in that situation. It's the 10th minute - the game is not on the line at that point and it's not worth getting sent off to prevent Monaco from having a shot at going 1-0.
Exactly. Garcia is a red card collecting clown. Not nimble or quick enough and gets caught time and time again. Most honest barca fans know that ter stegen is not a trophy winning GK, just a nostalgia piece at this point who never has competition for goal.

Good discussion Dan .To blame Ter Stegen only for our loss is funny. What did the others do? The team had an off day . Flick was clueless yesterday and he admitted it at the post match interview. He said Monaco was fast( everyone should watch it). The high line is risky and to continue to play it in such a situation is interesting. Dan your friend The Purist analyzed Flick months earlier on your channel. Go and look at Flick's Bayern they scored many goals but also conceded many so MATS will take in many this year so y'all calm down 😂. A coach has already found an antidote to his tactics😮. The last time I remember ter stegen being this bad was against Man utd in europa league clash. The guy gave a goal against Rashford from an angle that most keepers find hard to concede against
I completely disagree that Flick could not have planned for a red card. As a coach, you have to prepare every match for that possibility. Now it could be that he decided not to change at the moment and just have Pedri drop from AM down to pivot with Casadó. That would leave 3 FW on the pitch to score an equalizer at least. However, after Yamal's golazo or even at half time, Flick definitely should have taken a FW off for a AM/CM.
After thinking about it for awhile here’s what I think about the Ter Stegen situation. 1. Ter Stegen 100% had other options and somehow went for the worst one. The only defense if any that can be given is that everyone’s been spoiled by Busquets since surely Busquets makes the pass work out. Still though unnecessarily risky and not worth it even if prime Busquets was there. 2. More from my initial point, Eric is not Busquets let alone a DM. I personally feel that starting Garcia might’ve not been the best move and whether I’m right or wrong we never will know because of that mistake by Ter Stegen. 3. I always gave credit to Ter Stegen for being good with the ball on his feet and would defend him when I feel he was treated harshly but I think his time has come. I believe that he no longer has that winning mentality that we need and leaving would probably be best. No matter what he’s going to be under massive pressure because of his past and that doesn’t help the team either.
Now this is a good measured analysis. Some of these other Barca TH-camrs are really critical of everything Barca. It’s impossible to judge them on this game. Judge Ter stegen…..
Tbh once second half was about to start i was hoping raphinha and lewandowski would be subbed off. Throw on pau victor, ferran since they press well. I wanted more pressing the entire time after the struggling
I think a better question would be when's the last time Ter Stegen didn't make a mistake in a UCL match. We've been axing players since 2018 why haven't we axed the root of all problems which is Ter Stegen? I've never seen him do a half decent save on a near post attempt.
Do we need a top class goalkeeper who can play all the cup competitions including the champions league just like the 2014/15 season when Ter Stegen played all the cup games and Bravo the league games?
eric garcia doesn't have enough poise on the ball to be a cdm like that and martinez knows that he doesn't have the make up speed so he plays back and that's how he got burned on the second goal.
Nobody mentions the goalkeeper coach kept his job after Xavi and is still there. It's no coincidence that Pena has already shown us he is just as incompetent as Ter Statue. Common denominator= Same goalkeeper coach🤷
Yes, it was a bad pass by MATS and Eric should not have brought Minamino down, but honestly, the red card happened because Flick made a tactical mistake. Eric is not ready for UCL as a pivot because he has had very few minutes playing that position. Ferran should have started on the left, Raphinha in the middle, and Pedri/Casado as the double pivot. Eric misread what MATS needed and made an extremely weird move away from the middle that none of the other midfielders would have made.
Ferran should have started? Is the gap between Raphinha and Ferran not too clear for all eyes to see? Eric acted instinctively. It was not his fault. Blaming the coach and Eric is simply looking to divert the blame.
@@sirh.caesar4890 That is how they started the season before Olmo got there. Eric doesn't even have 90 minutes this season playing as a pivot. He maybe has a few hundred minutes in his entire professional career at this position. He hasn't even started this season. It was too much too soon for Eric. We also have another game in a few days that Ferran cannot play in because of the red.
In the second half we settled into a mid to low block, a 4-4-1 sort of. I think that really worked, we kept them out and had a threat on the counter with Lamine and Raphinha. But then we started pressing again and playing a high line, and not too long after, the goal happened. This, and not subbing off Lewandowski earlier were my 2 issues with Flick. That being said, I don’t think this is the end of the world. The way we reacted gives me hope going forward
