- There are roughly 45-thousand Persian Jews living here in Los Angeles. That's larger than the community in Iran. Not only has this community made an historical impact, but it's paving the way for future generations.

Why in the world do these people say Persian when they're actually Iranian I know it used to be called Persia but you know come up to present time it would be the same thing as calling Israelis Palestinian because it used to be called Palestine it's ridiculous!

Persian are people who live in Iran that represent 60% of Iran. The word Persia comes from Greek and people that live in iran dont call themselves Perians. Just iranians.
We call our selves as Persians because you know that if you call your self “iranian”.. you’ll be disrespected by many... as you know what our shitty government did to the western countries... now if you call your self Persian... people don’t really know much about the word “Persian”... so they go with it.
@mabvi That’s what I thought was the reason for Persians in general (the ones I have met in my experience), but I always thought Persian Jews used Persian instead of Iranian because of the German-Iranian relationship during the 1940’s that caused the Shah to change the name from Persia to Iran. It’s rooted in a bad history for them, but I might be wrong. I don’t know the history that well

They speak the Persian language and they identify themselves with the Persian culture, since Judaism once was part of it.
