Well... I see you're a Pentaholic... I'm wondering if I might be able to turn you into a Home Fry as well... look up Home Free and perhaps even VoicePlay. They are on par with the quality of acapella music that PTX produces! :-)
Kevin's beatboxing is killing it here! You should see him doing that live, it's insane!! I love Avi's voice not just because he can go inhumanly low but also the fact that he can SING low and it still sounds so natural, warm and pleasant to listen...that tone and resonance...LOVE IT!!
Avi is a trained opera singer and he is a basso profundo. You can be a basso cantante which s a lighter bass voice or you can be a basso profundo which is low and rich. Come people call basso profundo a contrabass. I saw him when he toured on his first solo stuff and his voice is like a warm, velvety hug. I enjoyed his show because he shared his ideas for his songs and where they came from so it was so interesting in that regard and he seems a truly lovely and humble person. Like genuinely grateful for every person who took the time to come out and see him. The last show I had tickets to before quarantine shut it all down was to see him again in Boston. I also saw Mitch and Scott on the one tour they did as SuperFruit. Best show of my life!
I agree about how Avi makes a point in his shows to give backstory to his songs. In 2019, when I went to 3 of his shows and recorded each on my iPhone, I made sure to record those explanations in addition to the songs themselves. I'm so glad I did. (Those videos are on a playlist in my YT channel, if anyone wants to check them out (San Francisco, Dallas and Houston 2019 shows)).
Fun fact: That “dubstep” bit that you noticed and attributed to Avi was actually *Kevin* getting his throat percussion on. If you watch Avi’s mouth, you can see that he’s singing a melodic line in that part.
Tim Foust from the vocal group Home Free and Geoff Castellucci from the vocal group VoicePlay (and does his own bass covers to songs as solo work) both have amazing low ranges as well, and you should check them both out!
Well was just getting ready to list a bit for Bayo on this same subject...Bayo..couple of branches off the PTX rabbit hole...Home Free..bass is Tim Foust( more of Country genre)..is Excellent...Check out Ring of Fire..Home Free featuring AVI KAPLAN!!!..WOW then onto Man of Constant Sorrow..their beat boxer is not too shabby..:D...I just recently came across Geoff Castelluci..who does solos and is part Of VoicePlay.....Their video of Queen in 5 Minutes is excellent..a LOT of fun...Enjoy your weekend!!
Avi's speaking voice can be very low or pretty light, as he prefers from time to time. He's a bass so the lows sound very full and pleasant. Also, his tone is utterly beautiful so he sounds way more then pleasant for me, both singing and speaking.
He has the type of voice that surrounds you in velvet whether he is singing or speaking in his most natural lower register. Beautiful voice and a very beautiful soul to go with it ❤
Would comment this again cause I know you will really enjoy this! For a Mitch lead song, react to Aha! Live performance in Singapore on one of their tours. Note that on this performance, Kevin is here, camera just didn't pan wide again so he can be seen. During the start, he wasn't on stage because he was putting away his cello after performing Julie-O (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong). But he definitely is there. Link to the live performance: th-cam.com/video/aT2Nm4fYmI4/w-d-xo.html
THIS THIS THIS!!!! (And yes, Kevin is putting Beyonce, his cello, away during the first section of it because before this was his solo section.) You can see Mitch move to his right to make room for Kevin to come on to the stage just before Avi KILLS it.
Your reactions brighten my day! Especially after the past few days I've had. Never stop being you! Someone called this look deep underground EDM. Apparently there are clubs where they dress up like this for real. I think it's freaking awesome! And this is one those songs that energize me in the morning!
I was waiting for the Mitch comment! LOL I had already started smiling and then full laughed out loud when you said it. It's great to see someone love Mitch as much as most of the rest of us.
Hi, I can't remember if you have done New Rules yet... It is much more recent. And you are exactly right, this is a perfect song to do for this particular Friday. Thanks for your enthusiastic videos!
If you want more insight to how deep Avi's voice really is, then it's time for "Aha! Live in Singapore at the Star Vista". Spoiler alert, he blew out the speakers of the venue's sound system.... and that is a thing he's done a lot of times.
“That was dead weird” made me laugh out loud. Your reactions are so much fun to watch. I love Mitch too and look forward to your Aha, live at Star Vista reaction.
I've been watching different singer's or artists critique. I think this one is more fun to watch you. Smiles all over. I love your reactions this is a complete package.
I really LOVE these videos where they get on a seriously creative tangent. There is a behind the scenes video (I can't remember which one it is) that shows Kevin practicing the beat box for this song backstage before a concert and it sounds exactly the same. And yes, Avi is a true basso profundo, and is a trained opera singer as well, so he can hits those ridiculously low notes with very little effort. I also have a deep voice, but I hurt myself when I try to hit some of those notes!
Avi can just go that low.. he can also to a technique called Over Tone singing where he can run a high pitch tone over the top of the low notes.. BUT if you want to see low Check out Tim Foust in some of his solo songs and he band Home Free (another acapella group) Or Check out The home free version of Ring of Fire, which Avi joins them in too
Thank you Bayo for the reaction. I am glad to see that you are feeling better. I would really enjoy seeing you react to The Sing Off season 3 PTX. You will get a feel for how they started and how they have become who they are today. Besides it is pretty mind blowing.
His voice really is that low. Avi is a basso profundo, the deepest type of voice a person can have. He has actually said in an interview that he had to train himself to speak in a higher pitch than his natural voice because people had trouble hearing him.
Avi has trained as a Basso Profundo. He really does sing that low but his tone is just melted butter. He has an extraordinary gift. He uses his body for more resonance. I haven’t read the comments but I bet everyone is telling you to see Aha! Live Star Vista. It opens in a cool way. Avi sang the opening in college. Trust me and I am sure us, you need to see it. p.s. It is your personality that draws us in. Lots of people react to PTX, but it is your genuine joy and emotion when listening that keeps us coming back.
Avi is a naturally low low voice...he trained to be a basso profundo (able to keep volume & fullness deep down) He actually had to learn to speak higher because so many complained they couldn't hear him (he also works to keep his upper register strong because he says singing Bass for him is easy) Bass voices are amazing...other Acepella groups have great Basses as well. Ring of Fire from Home Free featuring Avi Kaplan has two amazing basses in 1 song. They also made a new award at National Acepella Contest because of how Avi changed what basses do in Acapella (he got the first one) Basses are no longer just back up hums for the leads but an instrument and important part of all Acapella groups now. If you want to see PTX form, meld & perfect their sound I advise watching the Sing Off they won. The trio (Mitch, Scott & Kristen knew each other for years) Avi & Kevin were brought in & they only all meet together 1 day before the auditions. It is an amazing journey & you see how they grew & perfected their sound. I don't think as good as the trio is they would have won without Avi & Kevin (Mitch & Kristen back then were not real confident and 80% was Scott leading but there is a few fantastic Mitch solos & Kristen as well) What they did that year was a game changer for Acapella mainstream. It no longer was just harmonies (beautiful but not popular)with maybe a beatboxer. It changed into a band but with just voices. They led the way for the New great groups we now have in Acapella to go mainstream/headliners as well .. Home Free [country] (although they have been together longer they were just local fest & side concerts) Voice Play...Citizen Queen (all girl group Scott helped start) plus many more... P.s. I also recommend watching some of the other groups to see how different they were...there was a Rapapella Group that year as well.
@@RosheenQuynh me as well...i think it's there when they all say hi at the end of songs...i think most natural deep basses end up doing it because they get tired of "what did you say"...trained but not natural basses don't need to because they don't have those long thick vocal chords.
I've really tried to listen closely to Kevins sounds and I can't tell them apart from real or digital stuff. His cross-stick/side-stick sound is exactly what a drumstick hitting the rim of a snare sounds like. All in all they are just ridiculously talented and synced together so well. In fact, I don't listen to most of the songs they cover but when they do covers it's a treat to my ears; they're just that good. As far as I know there's no auto-tune used in post processing. They do use a few vocal effects (phasing/chorus/reverb etc., the standard stuff) and editing techniques to improve/change the synergy between their vocals. These days modern songs (well, pop etc.) tend to record snippets of instruments and cut'n'paste a lot as opposed to more old school bands that want it all to be real (although it's okay to do punch-in/punch-out recording and obviously record different parts separately not only to make the final result as flawless as possible to but to save money since doing full takes with errors takes time and time is money when you're in a studio). I don't know whether Pentatonix in the editing software copy/paste different parts or not (and in all honesty I don't really care) but there are a ton of live performances where their enormous skills and talents are obvious (and not auto-tune ;) ). When I write songs for my band I record ideas/demos and copy/paste a ton to save time to try out different ideas and arrangements. The only time to do it "properly" (ie. old school) is if we're hitting the studio to record the finished song(s).
I competed against Avi through high-school and college. That is his natural voice, the absolute definition of a bass singer. He can pretty much speak that low continuously if he wanted
One of my fav of thier originals! You seriously need to check out the PopSpring concert!! It's 3 originals and the evolution of Michael Jackson. They are such great performers, you really need to see them live! Love you 💗
EDM without the "E"! This is one of my absolute favorites of their videos. (I've got a screenshot from the video as my desktop wallpaper). A tour-de-force by Mitch on the lead vocals. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo, so yes... he can reach those depths easily and register on the Richter scale. (Another epic bass who can actually go even deeper is Tim Foust of Home Free... you should definitely check them out too)
I was so excited when I got the notification about this video on Friday. I couldn't wait to see your reaction to "the Kevin and Avi show" and you certainly did not disappoint! Your man-crush on Mitch is so cute! Can't wait for you to see him in Guy.EXE!
He's trained to be an operatic basso profundo - the deepest notes. As a side note I wish I could afford patreon. I'm disabled and on a very limited income. I do watch all your PTX video reactions.
Bayo, oh you make me smile ear to ear! I love your shock and appreciation for accappella! If you want some more bass for your ear holes...try...Home Free and Voiceplay...you might enjoy them as well. Keep up the great work! I'm glad you are feeling better! Sue
All we ask is that you give everything a fair chance when watching for the first time, and BE YOURSELF!! You think we never squeal with excitement when they are incredible/extraordinary/ basically just themselves:-) If you think Avi is the bass of all bases, check out Tim Foust of Home Free, another acapella group, or Geoff Castellucci of Voiceplay, they're just as ridiculously superhuman!
Fabulous reaction ! This is an original. Love their voices, looks, and how they rock ! Do try "Aha! Live in Singapore at the Star Vista" to hear Mitch's high and Avi's low.
Your whole person shines through you in these last few vids. Maybe bc you had covid and knew the worst case scenario and so appreciate your outcome. I love it when you start to wax lyrical and then say to yourself, "Oh shut up and lets get back to the vid" (or something like that). Avi's speaking voice sounds like most mens. I think there were contest between the guy in 'Home Free' and Avi. Avi conceded bc the other guy has a bit of a big head., Home Free is another A capella band and the beatboxing is quite different (but good) bc their style is different.. Try "Man of Constant Sorrows first. and yes, that sound IS the beatboxer. Nothing but voises in Home Free either. Avi did a guest apperance with them Please do some Of Avi's stuff, it's realy good. Different that PTX but just as good. Also can you do some Hozier (but NOT 'Take me to Church"). It has been -so- overplayed, i think everyone is sick of it. "Nina (Staples) Cried Power" is about the civil rights movement in the States (I'm Canadian) and all that the singers of that time helped and stood in front of the 'firing line'. I don't expect you to know any of the singers mentioned bc the movement was waaaay before your time but still fresh in the memorie of those who went through it. ... 'Work Song', a love ballad, good beat, the songs are very strong but it's the tune and lyrics that shine as opposed to the delivery, which is still good. Take care and be yourself, that's who we love. Bouncy, full of life and love.
The low notes that Avi sings at 5:19 are A1s. Geoff Castellucci from the acapella Voiceplay goes down to E1s in multiple of their songs. You should really check that group out too
I love that your channel is growing so fast and that you are a Pentaholic...just please do me a favor...as you continue your journey, don't forget about PTX!!! I know it may seem like you wouldn't ever do that but I've see sooooo many reactors that have and it makes me sad, lol ;)
You should react to - Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair by Avi and Peter Hollens!!! Avi will amaze you once again! Also, PTX's live performance of their song Natural Disaster really shows Avi's bass! He shakes EVERYTHING and the speakers just can't handle it haha! There's WAYYY too many to list, but just a few other great PTX songs to react to are Gold - Kiiara cover, their original Run To You, and their official live video of Silent Night(It's amazing as usual)
Great reaction bayo thank you you do make me smile and you don't need to apologise for your hair it was looking fine to me plus we in lockdown so I'm sure most of us have a lockdown look haha 😂 as for the low notes I mentioned to you before home free and voiceplay they have low note singers in them ❤️
Bayo, check out Avi and Peter Hollens singing "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair". And while you're there, check out Peter Hollens and Tim Foust from Home Free singing "Misty Mountains". Your bass love will intensify with both videos.
Yes Avi is a natural bass a very unusual voice type. Started the summer after 8th grade for him. By contrast, Geoff Castelluci and Matt Sallee are both baritones singing down to bass as Scott Hoying does when he covers the bass line for Avi or Matt when they are singing melody. Avi vocal range th-cam.com/video/bmMqfVMilhQ/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for reacting to this Pentatonix original. There is a video of them singing this live after an interview. It is a good interview and the singing starts at 5:34. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/bC9TicW0iiY/w-d-xo.html
Avi just sings that low, but he can sign higher too. He actually sang on the soundtrack for Blade Runner 2049. th-cam.com/video/z_JgOlGq6i4/w-d-xo.html He finally had to come.out and tell people because people didn't realize it was him because some of his tones are so low and eerie it sounded electronically produced. You should check it out.
You have to listen to Home Free and their Ring of Fire feat. Avi Kaplan! You will be amazed! Tim Foust and Avi Kaplan, the two best bass singers in the same song!
I want to start a club, video screens every where, and just play PTX and others like them all around the dance floor. I think it would be awesome!! Bayo, we love you mate, and I totally understand the Mitch Crush, I have one for him and Avi, and Matt, and Kevin, and Kirstie and Scott.......That is all
Two more PTX originals that I’d love to see you react to are ‘Happy Now’ and ‘Can’t Sleep Love’. I’ll even bribe you: Mitch is absolute fire in both of them 😁

Exactly! I've heard a lot of people singing low, but if they're not careful, it just ends up sounding like a rattle instead of an actual musical note.
Between Avi, Tim Foust and Geoff from Voice Play, all can hit Marianas Trench deep lows. Amazing and wonderful.😍

Happy Friday from Australia. Don't worry about your little outbursts, they add character to your reaction. Stay safe and healthy
Yes!! DO AHA@ STAR VISTA!!! Although do double with their video before the live version
Love your reaction! This is one of my favorite PTX songs. Thank you Bayo!
The talent shines out their... ear holes🤣
Keep chugging on Bayo! You are quickly becoming my favorite reactor. And your music is fire too!
Been waiting to see you watch this Ptx original!!!!
It is 3:00 AM in California and I should be sleeping, but I got this notification and it obviously takes precedence over sleep.
that blew my 67 yr old mind! awesome, and yes - steampunk!
Avi does his own stuff, check it out if you want to hear his voice and check If thats really his natural voice. Change on the rise is extremely good.
Yes Yes Yes you watched this one!!! It's an original and I LOVE it! P wish they had sung it more on stage!
He's trained to be an operatic basso profundo - the deepest notes. As a side note I wish I could afford patreon. I'm disabled and on a very limited income. I do watch all your PTX video reactions.
Oh Avi's bass is 😍🥰
Bayo, oh you make me smile ear to ear!
You think we never squeal with excitement when they are incredible/extraordinary/ basically just themselves:-)
If you think Avi is the bass of all bases, check out Tim Foust of Home Free, another acapella group, or Geoff Castellucci of Voiceplay, they're just as ridiculously superhuman!
Geoff is one of my all time favorite basses. The lows he can hit and the way he can honestly sing that low blows me away
Absolutely!
Great reaction! To hear Avi sing really low check out the song he did with Peter Hollens. Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair. It's amazing!
"Where are you now" has some great Mitch action.
Avi's voice is actually that low. He had to train himself to talk in a higher tone so people could understand him.
The more I see your videos, the more I love you! Man you're so great :D
Glad to see you are feeling better,
Avi Kaplan, Geoff Castalucci, and Tim Foust, and Matt who replaced Avi in Pentatonix are phenominal bass singers.
Fabulous reaction ! This is an original. Love their voices, looks, and how they rock ! Do try "Aha! Live in Singapore at the Star Vista" to hear Mitch's high and Avi's low.
Look up their LIVE version!!!
Avi did a guest apperance with them
Please do some Of Avi's stuff, it's realy good.
The beatboxer, Kevin, is a beast!
The low notes that Avi sings at 5:19 are A1s. Geoff Castellucci from the acapella Voiceplay goes down to E1s in multiple of their songs. You should really check that group out too
I’m a new subscriber!!!! LOVE YOUR PENTATONIX VIDEOS!!!
From what I can recall, this was written by your crush!
What some people don't know that Avi is a trained opera singer.
Yes, love this one 🤩
This reaction was awesome!
Avi vocal range

Avi is amazing. If you want to see his really low note, check out Aha, live at Singapore star vista.
You should check out ! Hallelujah live
Thank you for reacting to this Pentatonix original. There is a video of them singing this live after an interview. It is a good interview and the singing starts at 5:34. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/bC9TicW0iiY/w-d-xo.html
I loved your reaction ❤️❤️
Avi just sings that low, but he can sign higher too. He actually sang on the soundtrack for Blade Runner 2049. th-cam.com/video/z_JgOlGq6i4/w-d-xo.html He finally had to come.out and tell people because people didn't realize it was him because some of his tones are so low and eerie it sounded electronically produced. You should check it out.
Love your reaction. Subscribed. Is it just me or does Scott look like a really cute urban Frankenstein?????
You should take a listen to( new rules x are you that somebody) the bass and beatboxing is awesome
See Avi’s LOW LOW notes in the video of Aha! Live in Singapore!!!
Want more awesome lows check out Voiceplay "Oogie Boogie Song" amd Peter Hollens featuring Tim Foust "Misty Mountains".
You’re on fire today, love it! ❤️
I love this one so much 😊❤
Great Reaction Bayo!! I Love Your Man Crush for Mitch!!!! You Really Need to React to Aha! Live in Singapore the Star Vista!!!!
Bayo, we love you mate, and I totally understand the Mitch Crush, I have one for him and Avi, and Matt, and Kevin, and Kirstie and Scott.......That is all
Another great Mitch solo is "Find You".
Two more PTX originals that I’d love to see you react to are ‘Happy Now’ and ‘Can’t Sleep Love’. I’ll even bribe you: Mitch is absolute fire in both of them 😁
