I had one of em and let me tell as beautiful as it is it's true what they say about Alfas. I had major problems nealry every month with this car and put about 3x what I paid into it before selling it

That was on a 4-year-old car between 23,000-30,000 miles. Thankfully all done under dealership used car warranty. He promptly punted it after the year warranty was up and bought a Mazda.
Fun fact - Alfa put the wrong grade of steering fluid in every 159 they made.

@@moscowhq9978 I actually can believe. As much as Alfa looks better and cheaper in repairs, BMW is much more luxurious. We'll see how much it will take for it to break down again lol.
@@moscowhq9978 Alfa still has a very poor image and reputation since the change in management. Italian cars are also the lowest ranking on the reliability surveys. If maintained as demanded by the manual, German cars are far more reliable, but many people do not service their cars at all, and they all fall apart

To be honest, I was really hoping you'd buy an Alfa Romeo 159. I personally have one, and it is truly an amazing car. Makes driving fun, handling and suspension is on point. And if you take good care of it, contrary to popular opinion, it doesn't break down at all :D
Furthermore, in Poland, 159 drivers greet each other on the road with their hand :D. True car guys, love this comminity.

I haven't got through the whole clip yet, but I own a 2010 159 ti sw in red with the revised and improved 2.0 diesel. Hoping the Alfa makes it through! Mine is an absolute motorway mile muncher - people notice this car in their rear-view mirrors and move over just to see what car it is overtaking them!
Sadly they've gone for a stupid bmw again
I used to have the 2.0JTDm too. Fantastic car, I had no issues with it at all, until the handbrake failed! I still miss it...
C'mon guys :) You go for an e61 because alfas are unreliable, e61 goes up in smoke the very next day. Then what? You go for another e61, because alfas are unreliable :) My daily is 2007 159 SW 1.9 jts and during 3 years and ~38000 km all it asked for was front brake discs/pads, front wheel bearing and power steering pump.
@@Costantino718 well objectively the BMW is the better car. Both are not really reliable, but the BMW is sporty AND luxurious. The Alfa is just sporty and that’s it. The interior of the Alfa is not even comparable to the BMW.
@@gruzas2956 maybe you are just lucky. In general Alfas are definitely not more reliable than an BMW. If you look it up in the internet, Alfa Romeos do make quite a lot of problems. If you are lucky you got a good one, but most of them are far off beeing reliable. It’s the same for the BMW.

The 159 is one of my favourite cars, it was great to see Alfa's getting some love. The odd GTV with the 3.0 V6 pops up for a few grand now and then that would be awesome to see on the channel! We had the Phase 3 with the 3.2L it was a brilliant engine.
Really loving the way the channel is moving! Great laughs and chemistry

09:36 Chippenham is near Clarkson’s Farm? Clarkson’s Farm is in Chipping Norton, I know Chippenham and Chipping Norton sound similar but it’s about 50 miles away from Chippenham as the crow flies, 70 depending on the route you take. Aka nowhere near Clarkson’s.

Great thing to do Alex, second car looks much cleaner. Never buy a car that is wet or in the dark, I've learnt that lesson after buying a car from a main dealer.

Edit: they are appreciating in value now so it's a good time to buy one
the problem of BMW fanboys is that they don't consider that the Fiat engines themselves are very reliable (1.9jtd and 2.4jtd) certainly better than the N47
Very true, mine runs very smooth and you can get really good power out of the 2.4. It's soon to be at around 650nm torque and about 290-300hp
The red Alfa would have been a more reliable choice
I'd love to have friends like this, trying to buy my first car with no family or friends that know about cars is an absolute nightmare. Still searching for my 3k beast with history and reliability, thinking of a 2008+ Civic.

The 159 2.4 jtdm is a lot of fun but ours just had the engine blow up a month ago and when we repaired it after a while the crankshaft broke, last owner didn't really take care of it so the crankshaft bearing were all scuffed up and caused issues, they really need a lot of maintenance and care to keep running, don't buy it for someone who doesn't maintain his vehicules.
He got the rigth car in the end, with an inline 6, sweet! What an upgrade from a Passat! 🙂

As a Volvo V50 owner, with a friend who owns the Alfa 159 SW, i can tell you that volvo is nice to sit in and very comfortable on long distances, highway driving, that thing eats kilometers (and miles likely as well). That alfa, a tiny bit nicer looking interior and much, much more fun to drive, it cuts corners like a that kamikoto knife, compared to very understeering-ish V50...

Cars listed below GBP 3000 are either old ie 15+ years old, lack full service history, are cosmetically suspect, have serious design faults, high mileage, been written off in the past or any combination of the above. Especially if you want a big car for that money. It didn't use to be that way, but it is reality now
@@charlesc.9012 not nessecarily, you can get a reliable car for that price of you don't mind going for an entry level vehicle like a toyota yaris or a corsa (something you'd get for a first car)
@@whistonjuniors Not anymore, most yaris' are going for a lot of money, just over the 2k mark. Corsas are no longer reliable at the ages we can buy for cheap. It has just become a lot more difficult

First e60 with brokeb engine can be used for parts. Specially CIC(infotainment system) is newer and faster than CCC in silver e61 525d. And CIC systems for e60s are bit expensive, so you don't lost so much money.

I've a 159 TI estate as my daily driver the last three years now, 255k on it and it's the best car I've ever owned. Hugely underrated!
