I'm proudly part of LGBTQ community but please do not try to alter characters that were written in certain way 🤦 honestly, that hurts the opera-fan in me. If the character has been created by the author as a heterosexual female, either perform it as a heterosexual female or write your own opera from a scratch. That's what Bernstein did when he wanted to see R&J in modern clothing. Otherwise a huge thanks for advocating ❤️ thumbs up for standing up for our thing ❤️ What an amazing interview and I'm so sorry I'm not gonna see your show since I'm on the other side of the world. Wishing you all the best 🫂🍀🌻
I disagree, I don't think there's any obligation to create a whole new work if you're inspired to alter an existing work or character to reflect your worldview or tell your story. Romeo and Juliet, to use your example, has been altered and reworked in thousands of different ways and yet the original work still stands. There's no need to hold anything sacred - especially not opera!
Why not alter characters? Things have changed a lot since the classic operas were written, so why not adapt for modern audiences. Did you see the show? It was really humorous and I loved their inventive and brave stance. Bravo 👏 👏 👏
A really inventive show Teiya, congratulations 👏🙌❤️. Unexpectedly funny 😅
