The interviewer is terrible but the thing is even if the questions are shit the artist needs to sense it and make the interview interesting. Its not.

What does snow mean to you? I think had he not been to Antwerp he would have sledged his way to an imperial dogma of ice cream type imprint. He (Doig) has a similar name to 'dog' meaning the animal. Amongst other essential things, it goes 'woof' and can be very faithful or violent. I think he likes cooking and relating the 'fry ups' to an almost liquid transparency of lakes/ ponds/ China and maybe even Beaconsfield. Its just a personal view and will not affect your statutory rights.

This is just showing the huge discrepancy between artists and art curators/gallerists/historians. There is the creative process and there is the cold analysis of something that cants be explained in words. The painting artists expresses himself in images

    Art historian?
The interviewer is completely unprepared, the questions are without any depth or consequence. What a lost opportunity.

Still, many insights into Doig's psyche are actually exposed in this awkward interview. Understanding the visual experience as an artist sees it, is abstract by definition and difficult to communicate in one's native language. Now imagine, struggling with translation nuances from German to English. They both at least gave it a chance.

I don't know much about the artist. But he seems quite awkward when the interviewer is asking him about his work like he doesn't want to explain it. He seems a strange character.

This artist has no real feeling with his art, he takes a photo and alters the colors as he sees fit. There was no “feeling” there’s no real meaning. He just likes what he sees. To be fair, I don’t think was ready for this obviously because the interview came in with some questions that to the person who doesn’t really study doesn’t know. I almost feel like he was trying to expose him
