I'm happy that Canadians, at least for the most part, haven't been whining about not having their NHL players in the past few tournaments. Every country is missing their best players. The Finns have rightfully overtaken Canada for the 1st place in the IIHF rankings imo. Finland has had a great, competitive team every year, Canada struggles immensely if they have to get players outside of the NHL. Even if players from the NHL were participating, Finland would also have a MONSTROUS roster. In years past, other teams than Canada and USA didn't have that many players in the NHL, but nowadays Finland, Sweden and Russia have most of their best players playing there. Almost every one of their best players, Russia being the exception with some of their stars playing in the KHL. I don't know if it's that they don't have a deep enough player pool, I think the problem is coaching without relying as much on individual talent as before. Anyways, I think Canadians have taken it well, at least I haven't heard of their media bashing other teams and referees as excuses for their performances. It's not like they've played badly either, other countries have just caught up and even gone past them in certain areas.
@@ericmcmullen6254 2019 NHL players were in the world championships where Finland won (the most recent example). Finnish players in that tournament combined for 0 NHL goals before that. On the other hand it was an absolutely miraculous 1/1000 run from the Finnish team.
@@1andonlyMiro you should know that the world hockey championships usually have participants who didn’t play in the NHL post season and most of the time those teams don’t even have Canadas best or USA guys . Kevin Bieksa was the captain of one of those teams lol

The olympics are the crown of international hockey, but 2018 kind of doesn't count.... just like how nobody considers football in the Olympics to be the crown jewel of football. No NHLers doesn't represent what country is actually the strongest.
I stopped watching after 2014 . Will not watch Olympic events when the best athletes are not participating. But the womens hockey finals is always a great match tho .
