In Indonesia, if a pickpocket is caught, they get beaten up, it can be a crisis if no one stops them until the police come, and if it's a female pickpocket, the women punish them by pulling the pickpocket's hair/slapping/tearing the pickpocket's clothes until the police come to arrest them. It is most practical to be given a public punishment first. 😅

I ended up having a guy attempt to get into my front cross-body bag on the bus to Guel Park by throwing his jacket over to cover up my bag but he wasn't successful and backed right off after i caught him. Well done! I hope this problem is resolved effectively in the future.

In my wife's country Philippines pickpockets or snatchers are usually severely beaten up by people when caught before the police arrives to take the person away. Police is not interested in the beating of the pickpocket or snatcher, only in his crime. A sister-in-law of mine became victim of a snatcher once. In December 2019, I got pickpocketed when exiting metro to La Rambla street. She (the thief, a young lady walking behind me) stole my wallet with two credit cards, €100 cash, my IDs and most importantly a photo of my two daughters, which was the unique copy from their childhood. In less than 5 minutes before I managed to disable the cards, she was able to withdrew €1800 as well. I was in complete shock and went to 3 police stations just to get a paper to prove the theft. The police were as careless as they could be. And there was a long queue of people of the same fate and some got their entire belongings stolen and some were crying. I think the Spanish police is complicit in this scheme and that is why they don’t take any action to prevent it. And thieves work in a network and you should never use your credit cards to buy a metro ticket as some of them may be watching you entering your pin code from afar.

I visited Barcelona in 2010. I stayed on La Rambla. Very noisy all night. A friend was standing still just people watching near our hotel. A man approached him and asked if he could tell him the time. He told the man the time and he left. A couple minutes late two men approached him and flashed credentials and badges say they were an undercover task force surveilling the man who had just approached him. They asked if he was asked to purchase drugs by the man or if he had tried to sell drugs to the man. They began to aggressively question about other things. My friend began to worry he might be in trouble with the law. They demand he produce identification immediately. He pulled his wallet from his pocket and the men snatched it and ran off. Watch out in Barcelona. There are many scams. Also we were warned prior to arrival about the African prostitutes being pick pockets. They are very aggressive and telling them no politely has no effect. They will come at you even in the presence of your children trying to hold your hands and arms from both sides to rob you.

It's not just pickpockets. Friends of mine were stopped in a queue of traffic entering Barcelona and hadn't locked their car doors, suddenly the car doors, both rear and forward were opened, they both had hands pushed into the faces and their bags left on the rear seats were taken. Passports, Credit Cards and Cash all gone in seconds. A holiday ruined before it had begun but a lesson learned . 1, keep your car doors locked, 2, be alert and aware if you're visiting Barcelona.

True story. I am English with a deep love for Romania. My closest friends are Romanian, I go there often and I speak the language. One of my friends is a teacher in a rural area where there are a lot of Roma families. A few of the parents are keen for their kids to go to school and get an education but they are in the minority. Many teachers spend their time going around knocking on doors trying to get the families to send their kids to school. It's hard. She recently had a young Roma lad who was a success story and completed his education. When discussing what to do next the lad explained that he would like to go to college but he was under pressure from his family to go to Paris to scam, pickpocket and help a begging gang.

Roma people exist everywhere in Europe. People need to stop bringing up "Romania" whenever the topic is about the Roma because even mentioning these names in the same sentence ties them to my country (Romania). The Roma people are all over Europe and have many nationalities, they do not originate from Romania. I have an admiration for England and the UK too, but you don't see me associating Britain with Islamic terrorism, just because you have a sizeable Muslim minority.

The first 2 pickpockets are Chilean... because of the way they speak... using only Chilean idioms and with a perfect Chilean accent...

I appreciate those producing this type of videos. Hope frequent and potential travellers watch all videos on pickpockets hso that they can be prepared always.

In Jakarta, caught pickpockets are severely beaten before being released. Once you shout at them, a lot of people will help run after and catch them.

So good to hear. It’s only Europeans who are cowards and stupid.
