Werehog was a little bit like Ristar 2 but it wasn't very good to say the least. Maybe for the best anyways I don't trust current Sonic Team to not ruin it like they did Nights 2.
Me too, except I played it on the Mega Drive, because I'm a posh tea drinker who drives in the correct side of the road. Viva la UK! 😄 This was a fantastic game up there with Ecco, Puggsy, and Rocket Knight Adventures.
Very Great soundtrack!! i still think that thunder force IV has the best and most impressive OST on the Sega Genesis, but Ristar's music is so chill and funky I like it! :D
@@LavaCreeperPeopleIdk about Thunder Force, but i think almost all Treasure games have more impressive soundtrack in terms of console hardware possibilities
@@LavaCreeperPeopleI’ve got some other recommendations for you: Puggsy, Rocket Knight Adventures, both Ecco the Dolphin games (they both have rather different music because they used different musicians for each, Ecco 2: The Tides of Time really kicks it up a couple notches, but ignore Ecco Jr.), Quackshot, and Streets of Rage 2 (of course).
10:14 - Not even a ton of modern AAA games can reach the level of immersion and atmosphere this music delivers. Very soothing, and fits perfectly with the level to the point I can almost feel I'm in the water with Ristar.
The 00:33 buildup up to the main theme is amazingly smooth, and it got luckily stuck in my head since 17 years. As many of us right now, I can't believe such game has had no future plans, because it's one of the few games that aged so smoothly that I could get my friends onto it. And I can only imagine a new gameplay like Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, for those who know. Dynamic, intense, maybe violent as the original. And the music, oh my god.
I know I've said stuff like this before, but Ristar has aged wonderfully. Generally I'd say that the SNES had more realistic music ,while the Genesis had more rhythmic songs, but this game does both at the same time.
My favorite song as a kid was Busy Flare, now I can’t decide though. Also, hearing this with headphones makes me hear bass and other instruments I never noticed before, so cool!
Just what we needed this time! Round 5-1/2 is still something I consider a good representation of atmospheric snow levels without any particular Christmas carol reference. Thank you so much.
I am really feeling the shared Musical DNA with Nights Into Dreams. I agree with the comment below that the lower quality samples actually benefit the overal feel of this soundtrack, gives it a nice glitchy Lo-Fi quality. I love that lead sound at 44:40, has a kind of distorted Chapman stick vibe. Really cool to hear sounds I've never heard on the Megadrive before. Thanks for the upload

@@elgoog-the-third Late as heck but the Ristar samples are actually pretty high quality for a genesis. The way samples are loaded and compressed just makes them sound.. not that good. If you rip the samples directly from the game it sounds great!
@@elgoog-the-third It's that and also that Ristar uses a sound driver called SMPSPlay that uses the main CPU to mix two sample channels on the YM2612 DAC. @@BurnedNoodle To mix something like two unsigned samples to the YM2612 DAC you would do this: 1. calculate the first and second channels output. 2. add the two sample outputs together from step 1 and then average them out (divide by 2). 3. set the YM2612 DAC's value by using the mixed sample output from step 2.

Such a good game, and the soundtrack is underappreciated! The kettle drum sound in Dancing Leaves is so awesome, it reminds me of the similar sound in Quackshot. And there are bits here that are very reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog, of course, which is always a good thing.

Diamond Dust Zone from the Mega Drive version of Sonic 3D Blast is also a great example. A shame the Saturn version is just a stereotyped mess.
It has a common christmas associated bell segment, though.
