You are absolutely right! I asked my uncle many years ago because I really didn't know. He's played the fiddle all his life! He said it's just a violin that's played in a certain style of music! I totally agree, people should do a little research before commenting!
Her CD's haven't made it down to the US, usually we used to mail them out on request. If you would like one I think we can arrange something. (no I'm not a scam artist)...hehe I'm the sister someone mentionned played with her at the brewery market in the comments for the part 1 video.
All this talk about "proper" i had to say one thing.... I spent almost 25 years learning to play "properly" and the last 2 learning how to throw that out the window and SAW A FIDDLE.... there aint no right or wrong, WE humans made up the RULES for violin.... but this aint violin... this is fiddle, and this girl has all my respect in the world! from one "fiddler" to another great job ! -Beth (Fish Fry Bingo)
GO FOR IT.I teach both "violin" and "Fiddle" lessons. last month I got a new student. joe is 73 and decided to take up fiddle. He's become one of my best students. it's not that classical is too difficult it's just a much bigger challenge to start as an adult because it requires a lot more academics (reading music, for example) but the two DO cross in many places. and either way you go, it can't hurt to have a good ear ;) I wish you the best -Beth (Fish Fry Bingo's FIDDLER)
@LeahNPaige12 Trust me, she's really playing that thing- but just being a kid and doing it her way.Yeah, it's kinda slack, but she was a kid annnnd still make great music. I should know- she's my sister :)
I am a violinist and she is talented. She can be calm and built natural connection with her instrument, that is great gift. This kind of person will find a cure for the technical difficulty soon or later.
Very Good! Her bow is a little too far over the fingerboard, but I attribut that to the length of her arms and not being able to bend her elbow so the bow is between the fingerboard and the bridge...yet. But that will change as she gets older.
Fantastic! Great job Laura. Hey Quincy....jealous much! Fact is, some of the greatest Irish and Bluegrass fiddle players in history are self-taught and have the most unorthodox way of holding their instruments. I`ve seen Irish fiddlers play the fiddle on their lap and rip off some of the best fiddle music ever heard. Doesn`t matter how you get the job done, as long as you get it done well....and she gets the job done well.
@xKIIxNYANxMORIxCHANx Pyrovine is kinda right. She always liked playing, but it was never a really a challenge for her, so she just always glanced around while playing. That night she was tired and on stage in a huge auditorium, a little nervous and taking it all in.
Wow this little girl is so cute and talented,I just can't understand how anyone could give her a thumbs down, only a disgusting Slimebag would do that.
forgot to add...I grew up in clasical violin, and after college (1995) hardly ever wanted to play. years of screaming PRACTICE... competitions... pressure, and I was raised in New york, where violin is fierce competition! Last year (2007) I joined a bluegrass band... not knowing what the heck I was doing. Now you couldnt PAY ME to stop, AND my band has won awards all over Texas, because we LOVE to play! That is what makes the magic! -Beth (Fish Fry Bingo's FIDDLER)
Really well played! It would be nice to see her smile and enjoy herself! Maybe this will happen as she gets older and feels more relaxed playing to an audience? Still, well done!!
@LeahNPaige12 Uhmmm it will still make noise. The reason it just squeaks when most people run the bow across it is because there's no rosin coating it to make friction(creating sound), as that's not where one normally plays because it's not over the holes in the body of the fiddle.(makes for more volume) Laura however usually let her bow slide up there and that's where she played alot, not holding her fiddle upright all the time.
@yriasantiesteban there is actually a slight difference in a violin and one that is meant to play fiddle on. the fiddles generally have a flatter bridge to make it easier to switch notes so fst like in most fiddle music. hope i helped! :)
@srs876chief Research has shown that violinist can used up to 90% of their brain cells when they fiddle. No professions has come close to that. A talented girl like her can do multiple tasks because her brain is so well developed since young age. She's a genius.
Hey! This is Laura Watson , If anyone is in the Halifax Area , I will be playing and Stayners Warf on the Halifax waterfront during the Halifax jazz fest. on July 21 doing an afternoon matinee Come check it out!
I think the point of that comment was that most of the young players on here are Asian, and he's glad to see at least one non-Asian in the bunch. It's a compliment that he's pointing out that so many talented kids are Asians, and you can't blame him for being happy that there's at least one Caucasian kid that's doing as well as all those Asian kids are. Especially since so many of our kids are doing NOT very well these days.
To all those people who said she's holding it wrong... Pretty good for a lefty! She plays guitar & fiddle left handed now. Much more natural. At this time she did great, but could not hold that thing "right" handed on her shoulder due to her size and its size, and being a lefty, she does better right handed than most twice her age who have practiced for years. (Check out her more recent videos.)
When you're heavily concentrating on something, your face isn't going to have that split open smile. I think she's enjoying it, because she's active and she seemed to want to do more than what she was supposed to do. When I'm drawing, I'm concentrating on it and it doesn't look like a big happy grin.
I think the most amamzing thing is is how distracted she is. The music absolutely great and she's not even paying any attention! If that's not a sign of a great player, I don't know what is! Her form could use a little work...but I doubt anyone's really going to give her a hard time about it. : )
now i play the cello, not the violin/fiddle, but from seeing the violins in my orchestra, isn't that violin/fiddle a little too big? or is that a viola???? anyways shes AMAZING!!!!!

So cute the way she looks around casually, amazing to be so talented and comfortable!
She is amazing. I'm thirteen, and I have been playing the Viola for two years. I can only hope to become as good as she is! Great job!
~Shadow!
I'm 49 and struggling with orange blossom special. I wish I'd started this early in my life

this was performed in 2000 an awesome performance it was. imagine just how wonderful she is today. loved my listen
@LeahNPaige12 Trust me, she's really playing that thing- but just being a kid and doing it her way.Yeah, it's kinda slack, but she was a kid annnnd still make great music. I should know- she's my sister :)
This is absolutely astounding!! All people were NOT created equal... she just proved that! wow!!!
I am a violinist and she is talented. She can be calm and built natural connection with her instrument, that is great gift. This kind of person will find a cure for the technical difficulty soon or later.

I've been playing almost as long as she's been alive! and I barely have the same sound! shes got some talent!
to splatcast, im srry i wrote that rude comment. i had a bad day and i had to take my anger out at somthing. i really think she is truely amazing. : D
What the scary part is...you can tell she's thinking about other things while she's playing..almost like daydreaming there @ :52..WOW very gifted!
Amazing! She doesn't even have to look at her fingers!
+Dana Nourie SHE EVENS LOOKS TO HER LEFT AND still playing the violin.

She's such a little doll, very well done.
Really well played! It would be nice to see her smile and enjoy herself! Maybe this will happen as she gets older and feels more relaxed playing to an audience? Still, well done!!

LMFAO THIS GIRL NOW PLAYS MINECRAFT FULL TIME INSTEAD OF THE FIDDLE LULW
She still plays the fiddle and has created an online gamer profile. Spoke to her last week.
@@KellyMercerhfx was satire, very good friends with her!

Way to go. :) I'm glad you have an instrument you can enjoy.
Great Performance very talented
How adorable ! That deadpan look ,like it ain't about nothin' lol
@LeahNPaige12 Uhmmm it will still make noise. What's really to dislike here? A kid playing violin really well for her age! I mean really!
she is awsome.bless her
beautiful doll of a red head & yes, she seems to be in another world.
She is very gifted.
@yriasantiesteban there is actually a slight difference in a violin and one that is meant to play fiddle on. the fiddles generally have a flatter bridge to make it easier to switch notes so fst like in most fiddle music. hope i helped! :)
so very talented! i want to be like her when I become a child again! haha
She must have been born playing the fiddle.
anyone who dosent like it is jelous cause shes better than them.
I love how she casually looks around during the second song... as if it's as easy as driving a car is for the rest of us.
@yriasantiesteban they're the exact same thing. it's just the way you play them that determines whether or not you call it a 'fiddle' or a 'violin'
OOHhh! So adorable !
YAYY !!! Little Laura does NOT play like a little girl !
@srs876chief

She's good. she don't even have to look at the strings Good job
she has a gift thta not many do at her age have no clue why no would like this
It may be a little bit too big of a violin but sure enough that is a violin. She will grow into it.

A wonderful talent and a very sweet little girl.
The child plays with a very good artistic maturity,
compared to his very young age.
Very good! ******
she is amazing

espero de los adultos que ese talento sea para bien de los niños y no explotarlos!
SON GENIOS, PRODIGIOS! talentosos sobre todo.
this little girl is awsome! wow!
@rachhul fiddlers sometimes develop non-traditional ways of playing cause it makes it easier to play fast.
she's soooooooooooo good!
Un vero talento ......COMPLIMENTI LAURA SEI BRAVISSIMA!!!!
wow! she's incredible!
This is me now playing guitar and singing!! Hope you enjoy!
A Thousand Years
The first is a Shetland tune but I can't remember the name. Anyone know?
oh hey I know that song!! Is that the Trowie Song? I heard Hom Bru play that in Shetland last year!
am I right?

@HeIsLegend14 the first one. it's on their album No Afore Time. I'm not sure if it is though, but the tune is familiar to me.
ooooooooommmmmmmmmgggggggg that is sooo adorble she is so cute and relaxed
Awwhh she looks so cute ;D

2nd tune is "Crossing the Minch", first is a French Canadian Polka I believe.
I liked the first video, and like this one too! She's smiling more and having a little more fun in this one. How do you get to her channel? Thanks!

Jajajajajaja!! esa niña es un show!... no sabe agarrar el violín y sin embargo toca bastante bien para su edad...

ikr?!?! i hate it when little kids are sooo good at these things but i can barely play the piano with one hand let alone 2
elle se la pète pas du tout , c'est juste un rêve!
awesome
@edemusicjunkie It's probably the smallest size they have. They only come in about 4 sizes normally.
Excelent Laura
GREAT TALENT !!!!
100****
Natalka ;o)
now i play the cello, not the violin/fiddle, but from seeing the violins in my orchestra, isn't that violin/fiddle a little too big? or is that a viola???? anyways shes AMAZING!!!!!
@PetitKoalaSavane its not uncommon for them to look un happy! lol when I play it looks like I'm so mad! its just concentration!
Does anyone know what the name of the first song on this video is? I have a recording of my grandfather playing this same song and I want to learn it.
It's The Crooked Stovepipe!
Im wondering why 7 year old playing on a whole violin!...The kid is amazing! But still...what kind of teacher would make her do that!!!...The girl is so talented!!!!
