And on the grave she placed the yellow ribbon. She placed it for the soldier who was far far away. There’s many versions out there some longer than others
personaly i love the sapper version the one where it goes "she wore it for that sapper who was far far away"
Wish I could find one with the flowers at the end, favorite cadence while In bct

Civil war song, no?
My father used to sing this to me as a baby and i kept in my mind all the way through my time in service. Thank you for this
Around the block, she drove a red Camero
She drove it in the springtime, in the merry month of May
And if, you asked her why the hell she drove it
She won it in the divorce and took half of his pay
This is the one my drill sergeants were fond of.
I’d both love and hate to be that poor dude.
Hate that my wife has left me,
Love that HALF my salary is enough for a Camaro.
@@anotherHelldiver she got the Camero AND half his pay, lol.
That’s a creative one 😂
Theres another version of this you can do which has a fourth set of lyrics, after the third, it goes
Around the grave she layed the yellow flowers
She layed them in the springtime in the early months of may
And if you asked her why the heck she layed them
She layed them for that soldier who was far, far away
There was also another version that mentioned a folded flag. And the last part ended like this: and if you asked her why the heck she had it. She had for that soldier forever far away. (Or something like that)
If the Infantry had a voice, this is what it would sound like. Keep it up man! You're doing the Lord's work!
Amen!
This is that we sung in encampment while mar
Marching and chuck Norris and round house kick and motivation check etc
Thank You For Bringing Back The Memories of Basic Training at Ft Jackson SC, summer of 1982
Excellent! As a a 22-year Army veteran, I can't remember the number of the times I've marched to this! Keep up the great work!
Luv this, come here when im upset...keep singing, shalom

Love the cadences. The cadences we did 36 yrs ago at Harmony Church that are basically the same are this one and C-130. Almost word for word. Bring back great memories. Thank you

Thank you for your inspiring cadences. My grandfather, a WWII vet, taught me several march cadences, the " clean versions" ...Ha! Appreciate your service in sharing this unique genre of art and military culture!
it takes me back,, makes this old gi proud to hear,, drive on troop drive on,,,
you sing it different then i was taught by my father and at bootcamp. we sing it more melancholy. we keep scaling down during the "months of may" part, and aroc always slows the rhythm slightly during the far aways.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CADENCE! 😊 can’t stop listening to it. Gets stuck in my head. 😂
One of my favorite cadences from Basic.
Same
Coming back from the Gulf War, I remember the yellow ribbons tied to trees ..
Why were there yellow ribbons on the trees
I am glad you had them in 68 coming home was a little different. Happy times have changed but we must not let that happen again. Vietnam 67-68 . Stay strong my brothers.
In the version I heard the line about daddy's shotgun is "He kept so he could blown that soldier's ass away"
Hahaha
That line might not jive well with the TH-cam censors. It's not even close to the worst verse I've heard in this cadence though.
😂😂
My son told me of this cadence, when he was at GLNTC running in the shadows and footsteps of my father, His Grandfather, OBM, Bim
Brings back memories of an Army infantry boot camp . Back in the day when the drill sgts- could smack you stupid. Great job . Thanks for bringing some fond memories back .
"She kept It for a soldier who was in the US Cavalry...... Why are the lyrics different?"
-me when i figured out that the lyrics are different and im just Stuck in a movie
They sing this at CAP Squadron Meetings on PT nights sometimes.
Hey battle from you back to the first war we are going to salute to you with the tradition that you for the military
She kept it for that soldier who was far far away.
Thank you for your service. And thank you for bringing these awesome cadences. My daddy was Navy, my grandfather was a Marine and I have a son and DIL that are Lt.Coln’s in the Air Force.
I don’t remember how it went but our drill sergeants always used the version that involved Jodie which was my favorite version of it because it was funny
Motivatives songs reminds me alot
There’s this and then there’s what I remember:
“ AROUND HER BED, SHE KEPT THE WHIPS AND CHAINS “
One of my favorites!
Around her head she wore a yellow ribbion
She wore it in the spring time in the early month of may
And if you asked her why the heck she wore it
She wore it for that soldier who was far, far away
Far away
Far away
She wore it for that soldier who as far far away
Around the block she pushed a baby
carriage
She pushed it in the spring time in the early month of may
And if you asked her why the heck she pushed it
She pushed it for that soldier who was far far away
Far away
Far away
She pushed it for that soldier who was far far away
Behind the door her daddy kept a shotgun
He kept it in the spring time in the early month of may
And if you asked him why the heck he kept it
He kept it for that soldier the one who got away
Far away
Far away
He kept it for the soldier who was far far away
Under her bed she kept a cat of 9 tails. She kept it in the spring time and the mery month of may. And if u asked her why the hell she kept it. She kept it for that soldier who was in to whips and chains.. lol.. we matched to that everyday in basic training..
Haven't heard that one before
@@arianebolt1575 fort Benning ga. 2001. That was a mild one to say the least
For that Marine who was far, far, away💪
One of my all time favorites!
Around her neck she wore a diamond necklace! She wore it in the spring time in the early month of may, and if you asked why the hell she wore, she wore it for her boyfriend cause her husbands in Kuwait
"They did the hibidi-dibidy while you were far away"
My favorite cadence when I was MARCHING in the Army.
This is special, rest easy to all those who gave it all. WATP RIP Wee Davie #rfc
die stimme ist einfach wahnsinn
I told someone that I chant this as I run the trails as I am a trail runner. Just as fast as I run the trails...I will run into battle for this country AGAIN! American Mexican but AMERICAN over all. 🇺🇸

the ending felt like a hug and it got me sobbing
This was taught to me on a road march a few years ago by an amazing flight sargeant who has since passed away and everytime i hear this kadence it reminds me of him

*Around the world she flew a c-130. D 1-19 2007 ft. Benning infantry OSUT. I love your delivery. Were you infantry? Oh, and we said - merry month of may - I’m sure there are a few variations but I wanted to add.

He cept it for the solder who was far far away
Around his head he wore a pink bandana. He wore it in the summer time in the humid month of June. And if you ask him why the hell he wore it.
in my company we had an ending for this cadence that involved whips and chains not sure if it was something my drill seargents came up with on the spot or if it was a thing from a long time ago but it did make people snicker when we said the cadence
what was that verse?
How long has "Jody " been around ???
We were saying this in jrotc today
RESPECT MY BROTHER
FROM ANOTHER MOTHER OBVIOUSLY
She wore the yellow ribbon for the solider that was jodying everyone’s girl
In sea cadets we have a meme of that one Seaman apprentice (SA/E-2) who requests this cadence at his school dance and sounds off unnecessarily loud for a situation that you ain't marching
This comment has nothing to do with the military but your voice and cadences have helped put my colicky daughter to sleep every night for the past month. You might have a market for soldiers and babies
It was Katy perry wearing my yellow ribbon
Lmao this dude is dead serious!!!
I like wat ur doing keep it up
Sounds like WLC to me 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
In the merry month of May...
Been retired for 11 years now miss hearing and calling cadence's. You do a great job. Sadly you have to clean things up and not do them quite the same as we did in the line units 😂😂
Your so osssummmmmm man
The one I learned was she wore it for that young sailor so far far away
Around her finger she wore a diamond ring in the spring time in the early month of may
❤
Hi Jonathan
Like to hear you do Oh Black Betty.
Around her finger she wore a diamond ring in the spring time in the early month of may
And if you asked her why that she wore it she wore it for that soldier that is far away

Play me first start by saying your rendition is beautiful unique and distinguished
But that is not how we sung it back in boot it must be a singer to singer thing but are A-rock sung it with as feminine a voice as possible we were a full male division and we sang most of our other songs with chest but specifically yellow ribbon was sung with a voice like a child
If this isn’t motivation your not American
