The exile was a teaching/learning experience that we can STILL learn from. Churchill borrowed a phrase that sums it up, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Have we learned anything? Even Jeremiah says that he is depressed. Some people say that depression is an evil spirit. When we think how easy we have it here a bad time for us might last from a week maybe a year or two years but Jeremiah was in this fall in society for 70 years. The closest thing I can think of that would resemble that would be the Jews during Nazi Germany or maybe being a POW during wartime. And even that was only 4 to 6 years. But he is right, we’ve got Hope because we’ve got Jesus Christ. The rest of this world all have false hope.
