Queensland Rail have some work to do regarding travel trains. Whilst the aesthetics of the new Spirit of Queensland are beautiful, the "railbeds" remove that privacy and comfort you get with a sleeper berth. I'd love to see the Indian Pacific make a Queensland branch, or third rail to Cairns. (I preferred The Sunlander to the Tilt Train.) What do you think?
Also a bit of fun trivia. The Intercity Express service was the Spirit of Capricorn. (Original Brisbane to Rockhampton service when the track was electrified.) They are older, but super comfy!
I remember travelling on those Gympie North trains to Rockhampton when it used to be the Spirit of Capricorn. The journey used to take a few hours longer and was a hell of a lot slower than today's tilt train but boy do I miss those times. The nostalgia, the sounds, the smells, believe it or not was actually more comfortable too.
We use to live in Caboolture back in 1985, we lived not far from the Railway Station and there was a vacant lot across the road from us and the railway line was behind it, really enjoyed watching the trains go by including the Sunlander, great memories.
They have some really nice trains up at the pointy end of Oz :P Especially the Spirit of Queensland. Except the carriages on that train just seem out of place to me. As I've said before I love the QR vlogs :P Keep 'me coming (That's if you have any more XP)
Here: Cars are the individual carriages making up a "Multiple Unit." Carriages are more easily detachable, making up a regular definition of trains, and they carry passengers. Wagons are the same sort of thing, just they carry freight... So you are correct.
The spirit Of Queensland is a awsome train ,it needs to go quicker than 160 and calling this a high speed train really puts us to shame when You look at the rest of the world's high speed trains ,the fastest being 570kmh 160 is still very slow .Our tracks are capable of doing those speeds on QLD tracks .rant over😁

The ICE trains towards the end are go card trains, the spirit of Queensland and the diesel trains they are travel train which is pre booked

Likely because of the narrow gauge we have.
the Queensland intercity trains make the nsw xpts and xplorers look like crap
And we are still updating our train system
