    Do you think GGD OKW: Architects is worth it? \o/

    • @OfAbstract

      I have yet to buy it, but i got OKW metal and modern fusion. I love the low tuned snare in this, makes me think of perfect drums. However it sounds better mixed and doesn't mud up like perfect drums.
      Have you tried the other okw kits?

    I own all the GGD library’s. With that being said this is by far the best sounding kit in my opinion. To my personal preference I don’t find the need to change anything. The stock settings are literally everything I’d want in drum tones. Just load it up in Kontakt and start writing! 🤘🏼

      @@experiencesforsale toontrack stuff is amazing as well. I have them all, including ssd5,addictive drums, sd3,ezdrummer 3 and 2, and so far getgood drums and toontrack are the winners my own opinion. The standalone with ggd since you have to used kontakt is a bit tricky. Can not go wrong with either

    Awesome vid and song. The cymbal variety is sick and I really enjoy the breadth of the snare and toms as well. I work with the invasion kit a lot, but this seems like a good quick set with all the cymbals.

    I don’t know howI feel about my these. Like honestly this mix sounds brilliant but also exactly the same as everything else atm. Its so tempting to go for all these modern VSTs as its guaranteed to sound great, however the trade off is loosing any form of individuality with the sound.

    • @MixReady
      @MixReady 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Comparing it to GGD OKW Aggressive Rock makes sense. However I like the OKW Architects a little bit more because the kick and snare sound more focused but still heavier than the OKW AR. 🔥

    • @matthewmessner1105
      @matthewmessner1105 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@endlessnameless01 that's totally up to you. This and AR are lower tuned, I use AR for things like Polaris and Bear Tooth shit. This snare sounds just like the AR snare. The kick here is a little more detailed, that' the one thing about AR I don't like.
      But with that said I have made 3 tracks with AR for streaming release, it definitely works just fine.

    • @DennisMartenssonOfficial
      @DennisMartenssonOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Up to you, honestly! I try to make these videos informative so everyone can make up their own mind. (: I haven't tried Modern Fusion, but I have Metal and definitely prefer this one over Metal. If I mainly used their OKW plugins, I'd probably upgrade from Metal to this. That said, if it's worth the upgrade, I'll leave up to you!

    • @Forest_V19
      @Forest_V19 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OKW Metal is mainly for super aggressive music with an old school vibe. Architects is more for a progressive rock/metal vibe. Essentially, if you wanna make music like architects, this is the be all end all for drum VSTs.

  • @Sinisterbvnny
    @Sinisterbvnny 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Killer playthrough! I pretty much just use the Matt Halpern kit still. I have the Aggressive Rock, as well. So, I can add some flavor in if needed, or if I wanted to try a new sound from scratch. My thing is, I have my DAW template all set up with Matt Halpern. I don't want to have to go back through and make more. Yeah, these kits are supposed to be drag and drop for mix-level sounds, but I still think tweaking them yourself is the best way to go. I buy lots of Neural DSP products for my guitar tones, but I think ill stick with Matt Halpern for the near future. Just seems odd to change up drums and own many libraries as a recording artist. If I was recording others, THEN i could maybe justify having many kits. Ya know? Lol.

    • @DennisMartenssonOfficial
      @DennisMartenssonOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely agree, I have my preset that I've dialled in with Modern & Massive that I think sounds great, these OKW kits are definitely good, but I have a problem seeing a reason to replace my preset. (: One thing I haven't tried is processing these OKW kits further though, might wanna do that soon. Maybe they'll sound completely insane once you apply some more processing!

  • @blankspace0000

    Understand why it's not but man I wish this kit was a bit more like the one on All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. Nothing will ever beat the kick drum on that album for me.

    Riktigt fräna grejer du sysslar med här förövrigt med generering av musik o allting, mkt intressant. Ser fram emot mer info om det projektet framöver :)

    The problem with GGD and Mixwave is that they all suffer from the "Steven Slate syndrome".
    As a fusion drummer recording on a high-end e-kit for ourselves and clients via Superior Drummer 3, Addictive Drums, BFD3 and a plethora of other libraries, I can of course appreciate GGD/Mixwave, since I happen to have most of them on one of my SSD:s. Hell, I even use the old Mixosaurus from time to time (now very discontinued, but was "the shit" back in 2009). But even the so called "raw" versions (I am looking at you, Invasion) have an inherent velocity curve of a clipped "S". Hitting my snare at a velocity of 1%/ppp still triggers a sound equivalent of a compressed mezzoforte at best. Compared to SD3 where I actually get the output of ppp when I want it. Most people don't really know what real drums sound like, and even though SD3 are not "real drums" (even if they are), they are still my first choice for basically everything. Including progmetal.

    • @DennisMartenssonOfficial
      @DennisMartenssonOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yes, this is exactly why I recently purchased Superior Drummer 3. It makes a world of difference, especially when playing e-drums through it!

      The PV kit while using the invasion cymbals is the best combination for any kind of metal. I personally use Modern and Massive for Shoegaze and lighter rock.

    Väldigt bra video mannen! Jag lär köpa det bara för skojs skull men jag hade diggat råa samples som i P4 ännu mer!
    GGD:s senaste råa kit var ju P4 som kom ut 2019 och de har släppt typ 5 OKW sen dess, så jag blev lite besviken när denna också var en OKW, men men…

    • @DennisMartenssonOfficial
      @DennisMartenssonOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Håller med, tycker om att mixa och har velat att de gör ett av deras råa kit snart.. Liten besvikelse varje gång de släpper nytt OKW. /: Även om de är coola också!

      @@DennisMartenssonOfficial jag kopplar att det har med pengar att göra, de tjänar mer på songwriters än de som mixar, men det känns som att de alienatar communityn som fick de att växa lite :p.
      Denna känns som att den verkligen hade kunnat bli en fet succé som råkit.
      Det mest MAXADE hade varit att ha ett raw mode och ett processed mode.
      Sälj dom som separata instrument, eller sälj det i samma fast dubbelt så dyrt. jag bryr mig inte jag betalar😂

    • @DennisMartenssonOfficial
      @DennisMartenssonOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Skulle gissa på det också! OKW är lättare att göra, och de får in mer pengar på det möjligtvis. Vilket definitivt inte är fel - De är ett företag, och musikbranschen är definitivt inte lätt att leva på, så jag är glad för deras skull! Men ja, det sagt så hoppas jag på ett mer rå plugin nästa gång!

    OKW Architects vs OKW Metal? Which one would you prefer between these two libraries without considering the price difference? I think I prefer the kick sound of OKW Metal but I am not sure. Need to blind test myself to find it out :)

    • @DennisMartenssonOfficial
      @DennisMartenssonOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Straight from the plugin I think I have a slight preference for the kick in OKW metal as well, but the kick in Architects sounds more "shapeable", if that makes sense. Could sound really good if you EQ it a bit. Snare sounds better in architects as well IMHO, as well as the toms. Cymbals, for me, Architects is the clear winner. So yeah, overall I'd buy Architects. I have a demo video of OKW metal on my channel as well. (:
