    Cleaning an Acer X110P projector color wheel to fix intermittent flickery picture or colour strobing.
    The sensor next to the wheel gets covered in dust and stops it correctly detecting the rotation speed of the colour wheel.

    You video is very useful in showing how to remove the top of the projector. I bought an Acer X110 cheap but it showed white parallel vertical lines. On removing the motherboard, I found one green connector was not plugged in. I reconnected it and the white lines have now gone and the picture is fine. Thanks for posting!

      Hello, i have the same issue : vertical Line after a few minutes , where is the Green connector you speak about? On the top of motherboard ( and we can see it quickly) or behind?
      Thank you

    I had this same peoblem with an older x110 Acer projector. It was a reasonable projector when I bought it in 2010 but every month or few month I had to have it cleaned by Acer. It seems to be a design flow with the x110. I got fed up of it after a year so started cleaning it out myself. weirdly enough when the dlp chip started to fail in 2014 no flickering problems accrued. in December I replaced it for an nec m300w and that has been flawless for the 2 years I have had It!

    hey great tutorial, but you don´t specify which product you used to clean up the color wheel. Isopropilic alchohol in aerosol works for that or you have to use another specific product? Thanks!

    Hi.
    I have Acer 112 (almost identical to the one on the video).
    The problem is that it doesn't work (the colour wheel runs three times then the indicator on the power button blinks blue twice then gets red).
    I cleaned it before that via compressed air.
    Now, after watching some videos and reading some comments I think that the sensor somewhere in the colour wheel has got some dust on it after using pressured air (maybe inappropriately).
    I even ordered new bulb, installed, no change.

    • @freename
      @freename  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sensor on the one in my video is a small black chip near the inner metal wheel holding the color wheel. It detects a magnet or reflection of light from the metal wheel and counts the rotations. (Not sure which method it uses.)

    Dear friend. I have an acer x1120h that started showing its projection with a purplish/pinkish colour. It seems that every white part of the image was replaced for this purplish/pinkish. It happens without it being connected to any device. By itself, in the projector logo screen or menus. I don't use it with a computer, for example. Only with a PS4, through hdmi. But, as I said, it's happening even with nothing connected to it. So, I don't think it's a matter of RGB settings/configuration. I even changed everything in the menu to test... Is it a matter of cleaning the colour wheel as well?

    • @freename
      @freename  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm no expert but Id guess it could be
      1) Generally old and discoloured optics (maybe the DLP panels?)
      2) Discoloured colour wheel?
      3) Possibly a bad bulb.
      Given the age of these projects I wouldn't say I'm surprised. Throw it and find a slightly newer one :)

    I have an Epson Powerlite700 and it has a pinkish purple tint in the lower left corner. I've looked around on different forums and the only thing I can think of is maybe the color wheel is dirty or damaged? Would that cause a tint on the picture? Thanks for your time!

    • @freename
      @freename  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally find that is caused by dust stuck somewhere in the optics. Colour wheel rotates so it would have to be a a strange damage or discoloration to be a colour wheel problem in my view.

    • @freename
      @freename  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Difficult to know without having it in front of me. I can't remember if the bulb attempts to light up when the colour wheel sensor is dirty. Often projectors turn on the bulb (low brightness) and then test the colour wheel. That might indicate if you have somehow got a problem with the new bulb or the high power circuit to the bulb.
      I'd recommend either trying to clean the colour wheel magnetic sensor or show this video and information to a technical friend or family member who can do it for you. Good luck.. also don't blame me if you do damage to your projector :D

      Not sure. If you have the funds I would possibly buy a brand new bulb/lamp that you know is working. (Make sure they accept returns!!) If it works then you keep it. If it doesn't work you know your project is faulty and you send back the bulb.
