The Collapsing Stars have less health on 10 man so they don't need both Vampiric Touch and Shadow Word: Pain. I dug up one of Scotte's 10 man logs. He did one round of Shadow Word: Pain that ran the full duration on the three stars, then a follow-up round of Shadow Word : Pains a few seconds before the Big Bang cast started.
there's a new(ish) weak aura that times out 2 warlocks using curse of doom on each star, which freely kills 2-3 stars during big bang also. Rly great video brotha!
on both examples you gave the target dummies did nothing, kinda strange that you make such a big point of it... first log where you claim it works the fire ele took both of them, and the second linked in description the spriest took the big bang in rugs' log. you're going to bait a lot of people into wiping thinking this works.
We got our first kill this week on 10 man after 3 weeks of attempts and just had our tanks soak the big bangs. Our DK took about 30k damage and survived it, and our prot pally had ardent defender but didn't even proc it. Pretty pog
Yea DK seems to be the best for it besides a pallies Ardent proc. Usually a pws and a dr is enough to keep the DK up. Casting Army during it is a real nice DR during channeling. Usually if we don't have a spriest in our 10m we use the shammies earth and fire eles to soak the big bangs. Then the pallies Ardent as a backup.
Idk if you've figured this out yet but instead of the fire elemental you can use the earth elemental, it doesn't die to the random damage thrown out by the constellations and it's up long enough for the first and second big bang with about a 30 second grace period if dropped when Algalon is casting Big Bang. That's how my build downed him in 10m and if you don't have that then a rogue can soak as well given they glyphed cloak of shadows
I'm not a shadow priest so I don't get to stay out but I am killing stars, if I wanted to get the 3 to the correct percentage and then just not worry about them anymore would I want to get them to like -1k or +5k still? In the video you said you get them to like 5k and then kill them while the big bang is happening, why not just get them to the % for them to die naturally in big bang? And would that be slightly over or slightly under that I'm looking for?
You should try having your shadow priest soak a phase punch after big bang w/ dispersion still up, I do it every week in 10 man and it works perfectly if you are doing solo tank strat.
Thank you so much for all these Tips Scottie. My guild is still progressing on 10/25 Algalon. Best pulls being 36%. I think we have been way too focused on stars and lose a lot of damage that way. Definitely looking to change up the strats after this video
Is there a reason to instantly nuke one star down instead of waiting to 1:15 to make no stars respawn at all, after which you'd nuke the one star down? Is there some significant cons to this approach I'm missing?
I do that occasionally but honestly it just leaves such a small window of error that it can cause a wipe. If you wait and then a constellation runs through your one and only black hole it’s brown pants time. At least doing it at the start people can position to not close it the best they can and if worst comes to the worst and it gets closed you have a lot of time to react and kill a second one. What you said though is 100% viable and makes it even easier, just alot less room for error.
I’ve been face tanking big bangs on 10 man since release since we only have 1 sp in the guild. 1st bang with a tanking cd + pain supp. 2nd Big Bang with ardent, then repeat as neeeded.
Hey, how did your tank manage Living Constellation with this strategy? We gave this a couple of attempts, and ran into 2 issues mainly: 1. Our spriest, the BB soaker, took quite some damage from Living Constellation when everyone else ran into black hole to dodge BB, and didn't get to live through BB. He needs to time his Dispersion to cover the explosion and BB, and by the time he uses Dispersion, his HP is already pretty low. (When people running into black hole, he becomes the only target for all 3 constellation) 2. With this strategy, there will be quite some constellations up throughout the fight. If we let them wondering around, there's the risk of the only black hole being closed up by it. If we have our tanks pick them up, then the tank when running into it will close the black hole by the chasing constellation. How did you guys manage this risk?
Not sure about pally or DK but warrior can shield wall the big bang and easily live, I assume paladin divine protection is the same, although usually used during the encounter to make the boss melee damage more manageable. With the recent 10% damage nerf it might be possible to keep tanks alive without those big cooldowns and just wall the big bang.
So for a star killer. Instead of getting them to around 5k+ when big bang comes in. Could you get them to minus 1k for 10 man and minus 2k for 25 man and then let them detonate themselves if you can fine tune the percentages?
I was wondering the exact same thing. I worry if I get them to +5k and leave them alone they will all pop right after we get out of black hole or if I get them to -1k they will pop right before. I don't know how exact it has to be and if over or under is better.
@@CoachJohnMcGuirk I think if you leave them at +5k they would explode after the big bang? So you get them to that hp and then put dots on them during the big bang cast so you have time to get into the portals? I was just wondering if you're able to fine tune the numbers a bit better could you not get them to like between like -1 and -2k or something so you can just go straight in and not rely on dots to push them to the correct percentages.
@Chris Dixon I used drain life at the end to have a weak spell that I can control a little bit after getting them low and managed to get them to +0.5% so basically exactly on the number and they died during big bang but at the beginning of the cast so our spriest didn't have time to disperse them and one person didn't have time to make it in. I think ideally to leave them alone is probably +3k.
The WA calculates how much they have HP compared to how much they should have to hit 0% hp in the end of big bang. But you really want to leave them at +5-7k hp, if you nuke them down to +0k they will damage your raid too early. I think the reason is that the stars actually explode earlier than at 0% hp. If you look at the video in 2:22, you can see the leftmost star explode at 2% hp.
We just let our MT take all the phase punch stacks, and just have our OT taunt when MT phases. MT picks boss back up after phasing back in. As for having a feral dps do a taunt is going to be a bad time, even with full DRs. I've learned a feral in dps gear can't even tank a trash mob. Gone are the days of naxx tanking in dps gear.
If you remove the raid damage (the stars) you can comfortably 3 heal it because algalon only does damage to tanks. 2 healers on tanks, 1 healing the raid after cosmic smash.
Did you assume that 4.9gs is the same stats across spriests? lol Someone can be 4.9gs and be all crit, no haste. Or all haste, no crit. It depends on the gear drops.
Asking DPS to tank on 10's is such bad advice. Use target dummies at ~1sec on phase punch to soak punches untill the debuff runs off. Your warriors/cats are gonna get destroyed tanking.
There is a log linked in the description to using dummies for phase punch but our feral takes the stacks extremely comfortable so not sure why you would find that bad advice.........its literally 2 hits and taunted back if your feral can't take that they must be terribly geared.
Somebody explaining this would help. I'm thinking the fear is they eat MH+OH + phase punch + quantum strike at nearly the same moment. Amordron's explanation seems the most plausible here to avoid bad RNG. Taunt game needs to be on point. There's a reason why someone in a healer disc made a comment about their feral tanks "exploding like a samsung phone" recently.

What is the addon or weak aura you're using that shows the timeline of events in Algalon? To the right of the middle
It's a dbm timeline weakaura, basically turns DBM into a single timeline vs individual timers

Roster boss says no still.

Do the star explosions in big bang not kill him as it's damage on top of big bang?

Are we reaaaally sure target dummies work? I thought whoever soaked big bang has to survive?
