If you notice after the fight, in the monologue, the wraith blade is still bound to Raziel's arm, then moves to the physical sword. The biggest question is whether or not this variant of the physical Reaver already has Raziel's soul inside it. Based on the fact that it is discussed in earlier scenes how at this point it is a blood draining weapon, I don't think any version Raziel's soul is inside yet... so the Reaver isn't yet the soul eating the weapon we've come to known until later.

@@allenr316 No, it’s only 3. The Reaver is empty until after the fight where in the Soul Reaver inhabits it, trying to force Raziel to take its place. We only have Sarafan Raziel, Wraith Raziel and Soul Reaver Raziel. No soul was inside the Soul Reaver at the time which is why it tried to fit in Wraith Raziels soul near the end of the fight.
Bad enough that Raziel murdered his former human self, who was much more of a monster then compared to when he ended up becoming a vampire, and from a vampire to a soul devouring wraith. But to find out that he would become the ravenous spirit incarcerated within a vampiric sword, that's a heavy burden to bear.
Oh yeah. He was lucky that Kain managed to stop what happened there and then... even if the paradox caused from Kain saving Raziel caused a massive shift in the timeline that lead to the events of Blood Omen 2 and why Kain tries to warn Raziel that Janos Audron must stay dead.

So when witnessing his former self murdering Janos along with the rest of his former brethren, Raziel was paralysed with horror at this revelation unfolding before his very eyes. He was mired with grief and eventually consumed by an unbridled sense of self loathing as Janos died in his arms.

And since Vampire Raziel was functionally immortal, his time committing atrocities is at least fifty, if not a hundred times, longer. So that huge lifespan of remembered atrocities, that’s okay. But killing Janos - who Raziel has known a grand total of ten minutes - THAT is completely unforgivable and worthy of a rampage. Raziel is a complete hypocrite.

Another thing is that wrath raziel doesn't step into it until the fight starts which is potentially a visual representation of him being outside the wheel of life and death while his human self is still part of that cycle
Human Raziel was a pretty balanced swordsman. I remember trying to have a fair straight forward battle with him, but a few tries later, I was running wildly like this😅
But since Raziel killed his past human self, I wonder why he didn’t disappear forever? I mean after Kain killed William the Just, The war throughout all of Nosgoth has been prevented but the annihilation of the Vampire race happened because of the Time streamer Moebius, Which leaves Kain as the last surviving member of his species and that’s why he refused the sacrifice. And like in The Terminator if the Terminator kills Sarah Connor before John was born, He will no longer lead the resistance in the future.

I think it happens a good deal after this. They are actually raised at least a few centuries after this, and kain gifting them new life as vampires is what we saw in the trailer

This same blade, infused with Raziel's soul, is supposed to be the one that Kain carries in Soul Reaver 1. But by pulling the sword out of Raziel again, Kain stops that from happening and thus creates a timeline where the physical blade is never infused with Raziel's soul. In other words: a time paradox. The soul of Sarafan Raziel (Who is the Raziel of the past) never leaves his body, and he is resurrected as a vampire by Kaine later.
Exactly. The Reaver at that point devours blood like a Vampire which is fitting given it was forged by a Vampire. The slaughter Raziel went on makes it so hungry for more blood that it turns on him and starts trapping him into the very blade. He devours souls to replenish himself both in and out of the Spectral Realm. So Raziel being trapped in the Reaver turns it into the Soul Reaver it’s known throughout the land for. Time travel is basically a circle/river in the Legacy of Kain series given how Raziel was always meant to slaughter his brothers and himself and be trapped within the Reaver for many, MANY years.
