Does Koh Lanta really have some of the best beaches?
We've mentioned already that Koh Lanta has been our fav spot in Thailand so far, so it's a shame we've both been stuck inside with the flu! Mostly recovered, but this travel vlog was a bit choppier to film than our normal considering we were both a bit ill still. No worries!
The beaches in Koh Lanta were worth getting out of bed for! Thailand is perhaps known for it's beach scene but we haven't really experienced too many that really blew us away - that changed today. As you drive down the West coast of the island the roads wind down and along the most amazing beaches, white sand, no people and absolute seclusion.
Koh Lanta was a pretty late inclusion to our list of spots to visit, the other biggest recommendation over this side of the coast of Thailand was Koh Lipe... sadly we won't be getting there this time!

No beer:(:(:( It looked like a fun, adventurous day out regardless:) The monkeys are definitely sneaky buggers! Took Rhett's Ray Bans case right out of the side pocket of his bag. Luckily he grabbed it back from the monkey just in time before he head for the trees! Crazy!
As we drove away we saw the place 2 doors (not that there are doors) over had beer - oh well haha

What beautiful beaches! I love beaches where there are rocks and rock pools though you do have to take care in the sea in those locations. Really cool that you followed the local rules regarding drones - with camera work as good as yours, you don't need to worry. I think it was the right call given your status as increasingly successful travel vloggers. It's all about setting standards and you set yours high :)
It's been pretty good to hear how many people have agreed with that opinion, makes us feel better (and not jealous of other peoples footage) about sticking with our guns and not breaking the rules!

Thailand has a strict rule of drone flying because last year there was some man trying to fly a drone near suvarnabhumi airport. I think it should be fine to fly a drone somewhere far away from cities (like a beach or forest).
Such a shame there's so many idiots ruining it for the rest of us who just want to show an amazing perspective on something. Oh well.

Koh Lanta looks a lot like Samui when I was there...in 1990, lol.
HAHA. Part of the reason we skipped Samui actually, heard it's far too developed now. A shame though, we wanted to check out Koh Tao but didnt really make sense.
Bamboo Bay is my favorite beach in Koh Lanta :)

do you feel confident riding scooters with only flip flops on? with a girl on the back (added weight), i usually feel it's dangerous to come to a stop sometimes as you put your foot down and on sandy or dusty roads in particular, it's very difficult to get grip with that type of footwear and could cause you to tip the scooter.
Nope, well maybe yeeeears ago when I first learnt but not now. Your balance is ideally good enough that your foot only really goes down to rest. In Bali/Nusa Penida we did have a little slide though and I had to slam down a flip flop quickly - not ideal, but keeps you driving safe.
Beautiful beach indeed, I like it. And the lizard , lord have mercy, is big, I am surprised it didn't go after the chickens, probably this specie is not carnivorous....Enjoy your stay.

I don't think drone shots are totally necessary, sure they're nice and it gives you a good view of the surrounding area but when people go to visit we're not all going to be flying around right? We'll be at ground level seeing what you saw.
I respect that you respect their laws. I'm a bit of a rule follower in that respect too and it's just embarrassing if you get caught.
That's actually a really good point - I'd love it if we could all have the same perspective as a drone though, maybe one day in the future 🤣

@@DanegerAndStacey hmmm...it's actually not that unusual to give names to inanimate objects. What is unusual is that normally guys give them female names. My car, for example, I call her Dasha :)
How much does it cost to hire a scooter and what age do you need to be? Great video btw
We mentioned in the last video (I think it was) when we hired it, should be 250 baht per day but we did multiple days at 200b. Definitely needed in Lanta to properly explore!

From everything I read in advance the messages were so mixed and complicated, insurance requirements, non-English documents etc... then others said just go to a Police station. Figured it wasn't vital and CBF spending the time to maaaybe get it legally arranged.
