    I purchased my Stinger trailer XL112 in June 2021. I have reserved posting any reviews until I had tested my trailer. It was delivered completely assembled, prewired and (folded) on a pallet. Once the shrink wrap and retaining straps were cut all I had to undo was 4 bolts that held the trailer to the wood pallet. The included swivel caster for moving the trailer when it’s folded and upright bolts to those 4 holes on the trailer. Slick! I kept the included block of wood to reuse that sits next to the license plate on the ramp acting as a “cushion” when the trailer is folded up. When you fold the trailer it is a good amount of weight - tongue, rails, footboards being lowered onto that spot. Keeps things from slamming down hard, metal on metal. Looking over the Stinger XL112 I inspected the welds, hardware and other things about the construction that pictures cannot convey. It is well constructed with care. I decided to soon do a test run as the trailer arrived as I was making plans to have my 1976 Super Glide completely rebuilt at an independent shop that knows these classics. Towing setup. I have a 2018 Highlander and the trick was getting the tongue height correct so the front of the trailer clears the pavement and dips. The Stinger is built very low for stability at speed, up to 80 mph. With the fantastic after sale support by the company they worked with me to get it set right. I ended up using a 6” rise (an inverted 8” drop). A pickup truck is higher at the hitch point than my SUV. This is something that if you are towing with a car or SUV’s will have to set up correctly so you don’t drag the trailer accidentally. My first attempts with a 2” drop and then inverting it failed. That’s where the unprecedented after sale support came to the rescue. I contacted Stinger and owner / engineer Ty reached out to me directly to ensure my satisfaction and set it up correctly. I sent some pictures of my issue and through texting and FaceTime we resolved my snag. The entire staff does have customer satisfaction as their priority and made themselves available to help. I also learned there are updates to the design now and I was offered and sent the parts to stiffen up the rig by changing the footboards mounting supports to an “A” support configuration. The shipping speed from Canada was amazing (yes during Covid)as the CanPar and UPS were partnered in getting parts and accessories to our door fast. This redesigned mounting system for the footboards adds this rigidity and bolted into place without fuss. By consequence of the design I also gained another mounting point to hook into with my rear straps. This improvement is standard now and welded in place during manufacture. My trailer also sports a tongue jack from Stinger that make a world of difference being able to support the trailer when it is not coupled. It’s helped me maneuver the trailer in it’s unfolded form by myself. I cannot stress enough how much support and personal contact the company offered me. The included tie down straps - 2 Erickson ratcheting straps and two cam buckle Shock brand straps are excellent and soft ties are included. I went and bought another 2 Erickson ratchet straps and 2 Rhino heavy duty cam buckle straps. I decided to double up and use 2 sets front and rear. Ratchet straps in-front and both types of cam buckle straps in the rear. First I mounted the one set of ratchet straps up front. Then the Shock straps in the rear as the primary tie downs because of their unique design that can compensate for movement then add the Rhino straps and the second set of ratchet straps in front. I just completed over 1400 miles from CT to the central Gulf coast of FLORIDA. We travel easily at 80 mph and the trailer is rock solid, you don’t know it is there. Of my three Harleys I have had my 76 FXE on the trailer and my 2007 Roadster was the bike that I took to FL. This trailer was designed for bigger bikes so I can use it for my 900+ lb 2009 Ultra Classic when that time comes. The trailer weighs about 320 pounds, my FXE and XL1200R are in 585-605lbs range. The low ramp height takes all drama out of loading a motorcycle by yourself. Always hitch up before loading. The key thing is to set the Condor wheel chalk correctly. For the 19” wheels of both my super glide and sporty I counted off 14 mounting holes between the pins that secure the 2 key pieces of the chalk. That Condor grabs and secures the front wheel so well as you go over it, the bikes stay in place before strapping making it a one person operation. One person can unfold and fold the trailer once they understand the technique. I’m short and only 150 lbs and can do it. You really should checkout the Stinger videos to see how this is done. During my 1400 miles I had zero issues. The trailer wheels are inboard of where my tow vehicle is tracking so width is not a concern and taking turns is easy not having to swing as wide as say with a uhaul behind me. Checking the straps frequently, tugging on them at every stop and all was secure. Using two sets of straps is good insurance.
    My reason for choosing this Stinger XL112 was that I needed a trailer that I could hide in our FL community governed by an HOA. The Stinger is easily maneuvered when folded and upright. My gas grill has a bigger footprint than the folded stinger. The led lighting is really bright and my only suggestion is you should add reflective tape in various areas. The led side markers are small but bright, I’d like it if they were larger. The tail lights are great. Remember the trailer rides quite low so I like to add visual aides for stupid motorists around us. I compared this Stinger to every open trailer option I could find before purchase.
    This is a well made trailer and the specs are on their website. It stores the most conveniently, one person operation, designed for prolonged highway speeds up to 80 mph and you can hide it if your HOA does not allow trailers. The after sale support was fast, real and thorough, I knew they wanted me to be satisfied. They made me feel like I was their most important customer. They make a variety of units for motorcycles, trikes and ATV’s. No matter what trailer you are shopping for you should check out the offerings from Stinger. You may find something innovative you never knew existed. In over 43 years of riding motorcycles this is my first trailer. I used to be hard core and never trailered a motorcycle that I could ride to where I was going. Now older and in retirement I’ll be able escape winters and haul all my hobby gear and two wheeled pleasures to where it is warm all year. A big thanks to Ty, Melissa, Kevin and the crew at Stinger.

    My dad and I use the ace, it's very easy to put the bike up and down and it's easy to put in the garage. Very durable, not that heavy, and can go about 70 mph with it. About as fast as I've been with me towing it. Love the trailer! Recommend it for sure! Hope you get it! And it will fit the tires you want!

      Do you still use the ACE trailer? How is it holding up? did you have to purchase a trailer plate? what the longest trip you've taken the trailer with the bike and how fast on the freeway?

      Glad to hear you made it ok! Yeah I did videos in the past telling riders to expect cars to run redlights, stops signs, turn in front of you, etc. If you think with this mindset it will better help you avoid trouble. Nice to see another cbr lover! I've always loved cbr bikes since my brother had a cbr900rr back in the 90's. Great bikes and super reliable!

    Without a doubt get a Kendon, I had a stinger and it was a POS. The fenders flew off while driving (they are known for this) and luckily didnt damage my bike, no suspension and everything just vibrates, I lost a few bolts. I would recommend buying a used Kendon and get the 2 bike version it is only a little bigger than the single bike but will come in real handy when you want to move multiple bikes or take 2 bikes on vacation , you can find them all day long on CL for $1500. Ulitmately for weather/security I would recommend getting a cargo trailer. Kendon much easier to load than Stinger.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awesome! Thanks for your feedback, your insight helps all of us. The kendon looks good and built in the USA. I'll have to keep checking CL, none so far. There was a Stinger someone was selling for $1300 but the reg version does not accommodate my new bike's 240 rear wheel. I'm glad I didn't get it after reading your comment! Thanks again!

    There is a new kid on the block called the OZIConcept Folding Motorcycle Trailer. It's an amazing piece of engineering that is all stainless or galvanized, so it won't rust. The footprint when folded is tiny and can fit in the corner of your garage. It's maybe 2 ft by 3 ft by 5 ft high.

    Get the ace. The only restriction on speed is due to wheel bearings or tires. You can change either the bearings, or the tires. Do get a spare tire though whatever trailer you choose.

    I've got a kendon trailer, it was a little pricey but it's well worth it. It stands up tall but fits in the garage just fine. I barely even notice it on the back of my truck. It's super sturdy and standing it up doesnt take much effort. 10/10

    I have a folding trailer from harbor freight, have towed bikes about 15k miles on it with no issues. Total cost after all materials was about 450, weighs about 350 lbs. 2 bikes fit on it and when it folds up it takes up little floor space. They say the tires are rated to 55 but i put bearing buddies in and dyna beads in and i ran it at or over 80 for thousands of miles and have had it up to 100 fully loaded, I usually run 1000 miles a day when im towing bikes from the midwest to west coast. The quality isnt the best, especially the paint but it works well and you could make it stronger by having it welded together after you bolt it together and have it sandblasted and powder coated.

      @@blown8642 Built like a friggin TANK! Still blows my mind that this trailer after use, will fold in upon itself, and ONLY take up the space of your average Snow Blower sitting in the garage! It handles my 998 pound Tour, no problem...tows neutral and you don't even know your bike is there, unless you look in your rear view mirror, and also another great part..is because it folds upon itself, you could (like we are going to do..) take your bike down in the Winter months to a Southern State, any State with a daytime of 60 F, make reservations at a U-Haul...for a storage locker that will fit your car/van/pick-up, and the folded Stinger XL-112 sitting in front of the vehicle. Pull down the door, lock it, and both your tow vehicle and the Stinger is locked, safe, and out of site. Another U-Haul usage option, or any other storage facility, is that if it is gated, and they let you...park your car inside the compound for free, you can rent the smallest storage locker, to lock up your Stinger, and then leave your vehicle in their compound, where they tell you to park it. For us, we want to not have to worry about anything happening to either our trailer or our Van, so...I will rent a locker size that I can push the Stinger up to the front wall, and then with my wife watching the front, move the van into the locker, until she tells me to stop. Close up...lock up, we get on the bike, and with no worries, we ride on out of the compound. Ride your bike in that State, or go further south from the U-Haul Storage site. Coming back? No sweat...you KNOW your car/van/pick-up AND YOUR MOTORCYCLE TRAILER will be there waiting for you. Back out your vehicle, walk out your folded Stinger XL-112 (it sits vertical on the axle wheels and a small pivot wheel to form a tri-gear), stretch out your Stinger XL-112, load your ride...tie it down...and move on out, northbound. The Stinger XL-112 when fully expanded, is practically as long as a boat trailer! This is a well made, and amazingly engineered trailer. Enjoy yours!

    Even though I have 6 different trailers for all of my junk in life to keep up with but looking to add a motorcycle trailer or receiver hitch carrier for easier loading/unloading plus rolling down the road. Great video by the way. There is No maintenance on a rented trailer. Tires, bearings, lights, replacing wood floor, checking wields, Hitch/jack Greasing, taxes/tags and storing the thing somewhere. I’ll probably just build my own. Didn’t know they cost that much.

    I've got a two place Kendon stand-up and I love it. I got it used for about $1200, then put new tires and wheel bearings on it right away. Worked great all season and even though I think most of these trailers won't recommend anything above 60 mph officially, I've pulled at 75-80 for an hour to the trail head and felt the bearings and they are barely warm (however, I'm only pulling a couple light dual sports).

    I've had in the past a Stinger single-bike folding trailer that I was well satisfied with (at the time it was only US$ 1500 new). At the time I had a Yamaha 750 Seca (XJ750) and the Stinger was very adequate for my needs. Very recently I found myself in need of another single-bike trailer, but the idea of spending US$ 2000 to 2500 was rather daunting, so I compromised and went with a Northern Tool Company folding single-bike model that sells for only $800 (with free freight). [It is interesting to note that Kotula's also sells the same exact trailer as Northern Tool but for US$ 200 more!]. This trailer is a Chinese-made item that is clearly and very obviously a cheaper clone of the Stinger design.
    After assembling the Northern Tool unit ("some assembly required", LoL), I found that all the criticisms of it were essentially valid. The problem with so many Chinese-made products these days is that although they are generally well designed and engineered, they are poorly constructed (poor quality control at the factory is the most common problem). Thus, the Northern Tool (AKA: Kotula's trailer) unit is not anywhere near as solidly built or precisely put together as the Stinger design it was based on. The hinges that join the folding sections together have too much lateral slop in them, for one thing, and another concern is the lack of a front wheel chocking device (the width of the channel is about 9 inches only and most front wheel chocks are 9.5 or wider). Still another potential concern relates to the welds, which do not inspire the level of trust an expensive bike warrants!
    Yes, the 'cheapie' Stinger clone is inexpensive, but potential buyers need to do the math and risk assessment before opting for either a Northern Tool or Kotula's offering (these are also listed on eBay, and probably a few other venues as well, but they're all made at the same Chinese factory).
    My present mount, a 2000 Kawasaki ZX9R Ninja weighs about 450 pounds and although this is well within the Northern Tool Company's cited capacity, I'd hesitate to trust my baby on their unit! Overall, therefore, I largely agree with CYCLE-CRUZAs opinions here (although the 'Stinger' is actually a very well made item and well worth considering). If you possess a significantly larger and/or heavier bike, the Northern Tool (Kotula) trailer is definitely a last choice!

    I have a Harbor Freight 4x8 folding trailer that stand ups. It was under $300 when I bought it. The trailer has to be assembled. Added plywood and a wheel chock for about another $130. Can unbolt the chock and use the trailer as normal. You can Google and find how people customized their trailers to transport motorcycles. Trailer supports about 1100 lbs.

    for $2,500 how many times can a person hire a towing service? or how many times can you rent a trailer from uhaul or home depot? these options don't take up any space.

    • @CycleCruza
      @CycleCruza  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      True, $15 for a day to rent a Uhaul trailer. However, it's nice to have your own, nice to not have to travel to get a trailer.

    • @renynzea
      @renynzea 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +cotes42 Depends on what the tow limit is for your vehicle. Most of those trailers weigh a good 600-800 lbs, and the bike isn't centered over the axle, so combined weight and/or tongue weight could be an issue. The irony is that you need the towing capacity of a truck to be in compliance with your vehicle warranty for most motorcycle trailers, and if you have a truck why do you need a trailer?

    • @0xsergy
      @0xsergy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the brand, I saw one locally for 1500 CAD new so like 1100 usd. For a trailer you can store in your trunk it's pretty nifty. Plus it weighing only 200 lbs means that almost any car can pull it.

    • @BillSmith-xm2tl
      @BillSmith-xm2tl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So here is one other thing to consider for very few of us owners... U-Haul will not permit their trailers to be towed by the Ford Explorer series of vehicles. It was cheaper to buy a motorcycle trailer than a new vehicle that would be permitted to tow from U-Haul (Yes - it goes WAAAAAAY back to the 'exploding tires' issue on Ford Explorers- and while we all know that is years behind us... U-Haul has not caught up). I personally purchased a 'PortA-Chopper' for my use. I handles my GL1800 nicely on the freeway at 70+ mph. It breaks down into small enough pieces I can put it in my shed and the rear tire channel is available to accommodate the 195/R16 rear car tire I run on the back (yes - I am a darksider).

    You could probably just add some aluminum channeling to your existing ramp. That would keep the rear tire tracking correctly along with the front and drastically reduce the chance of a bike falling over. You could even just use four bolts in the corners and get channeling high enough to completely rule out any tip overs while making it easy to disassemble for packing/storing.

    Another option, go to a welding shop and tell them exactly what you want. A bare t-frame with axle hubs welded on. buy your own wheels, tires, hitch connector, and lights. Ask them to leave it thin so you can mount it on a garage wall.

  • @renynzea
    @renynzea 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I have a Kendon and it works great. Easy to load. Outfitted it with a pit bull restraint system so I can have the trailer and bike hooked up and ready to go in under five minutes. (Hate dealing with straps.). It isn’t a cheap solution, but the last thing I want is to put a 15k bike on a 1k trailer and lose the bike because the trailer is garbage.
    It looks like it would take up a lot of space in the garage, but it is isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It is also designed to put the weight on the axle. I have a 5.7l Dodge Challenger with 1000 lb tow weight (so around 100 lb tongue weight) so weight balance was critical for me. Some trailers put too much weight on the tongue. Fine if you have a truck; not so much if you have a car. It rides stable loaded (a bit noisy but stable empty) and I can’t even tell it is back there when I am hauling it.

    A few years ago I bought a used Trailer in a Bag for $800. Works great. I didn't love the 8 inch tires, so I put 12 inch wheels on with radial Carlisle tires. I don't want the hassle/cost/eyesore of a regular trailer, so I keep it disassembled in my basement. The only problem is that it's a one trick pony--bikes only. Now starting to look at a folding utility trailer I can keep in the garage and use for moving a quad as well. If I can figure out a way to quickly install/remove a wheel chock, the trailer in a bag will go up for sale.

    Ask yourself the following questions: How often will the trailer be used? (Weekly, monthly, or annual long distance trips). Will the trailer be used for mostly long freeway rides or shorter off freeway use? (This should dictate speed rated vs non speed rated options). Do you want the flexibility to carry more than 1 motorcycle at a time? Last, what is the exact storage sq footage that is planned for housing the trailer? An honest answer of these questions may guide you to what would best fit your needs...

      To add to Stephan:
      If your only planning on using it occasionally, rent one from UHaul. I looked into it a few years ago and was like $14 per day. So if it's a 3 or 4 times a year thing then renting one may make more sense than spending $1k+ and taking that space up in your garage.

Like any tool in my box, if im going to use it every day, ill bite the bullet and spend the extra $. But if im only gonna use it once a year or in a blue moon, cheaper is acceptable. Also, speed limits while hauling a trailer are 55 mph, no more than 60 mph, at least here in CA. Awesome channel and topics you bring up. Glad to tune in.

    I have the Stinger trailer. I've hauled a Sprint ST 1050 (180/55) and a Triumph Thunderbird Storm (200/55), both have a wide rear. It transported the Storm after a rear-tire flat, and even with the rear rim deflated it was /easy/ to load and transport the bike. Integrated Condor chock, integrated tie-down hook points, and the bike's suspension actually makes the trailer track better when it's strapped down.
    I don't /use/ it that much, cos I don't trailer my bikes all that much (usually only when they're not safe to ride to the shop, and that's rare).

    On trailer note, what are you using it for? For the occasional breakdown? Are you going to go road tripping with your bike often? If you're hauling your bike open behind your vehicle often, you're going to pick up road damage from debris picked up by your own car. Occasional use like breakdowns an open, easy store trailer is great and in that case you can get buy with the cheaper trailer. It's like buying any tool. If you're going to use it two or three times a harbor freight special is just fine. If you're making you're living with it, perhaps visit the snapon man. I'd move rather then deal with an HOA even though I'm in one right now. They only have the rules if someone decides to start using their few acres as a salvage yard. Lotsa nice places in Ohio, move a little farther out. 20 grand can get you a pretty decent sized detached garage for all your motorcycle pleasures.

    Great video. I have been debating between buying a motorcycle trailer vs renting from Uhaul. My biggest concern with own a trailer is that it could fall apart on the road (no matter of the brand), while the UHaul more likely won't fail on you. But the UHaul need planning ahead, rush for time and can't do on a moment of notice.

    One more comment about my 2 place Kendon (which I think is great).... It is a bit heavy when you lift it from horizontal to vertical if you are doing it alone. You just need to be ready for the old over the head clean and jerk move like the Olympic weightlifters. If it comes crashing down on you because you were not ready for the push, you could hurt yourself. But then, I know you are THE CYCLECRUZA so should be no prob.

    Be careful and know your tongue weight rating for your tow vehicle. I pull with a 2009 328i when I first loaded my bike on the stinger trailer the tongue weight was 290lbs! Well over the weight for a good ride and over the 200max. It was on the bumbstops every bump. Had to buy an aftermarket wheel chock and move the bike back. Found that with 100lbs of tongue weight it rides great and never bottoms suspension out. The bike is within 1 inch of the ramp though! Bike is 60.2 inch wheelbase 89 overall length 498 lbs with 290 on the front wheel. The bike is a 2014 ctx700

You could probably attach it to a Electric car. Or maybe even another bike. But remember, if it folds, it breaks easier. It Will break if you drive on bad roads or at high speeds.

    Thanks so much for this video. Great information about each one of these. I recently rented a U-Haul motorcycle trailer. ($14.95 for a 24 hour period). No suspension and the trailer "bounced" on the smallest bumps. Speed bumps are especially nasty. My bike is a 2005 C-50 and the frame is so long and low that I "bottomed out" trying to load the bike. I had to borrow a longer motorcycle ramp. The bike weighs about 600lbs. Anyway, with no suspension on the trailer my bike really got jostled. It was strapped down tight. I would probably purchase the trailer with the better (if not bigger) tires. Be careful with these smaller trailers. I would be very concerned with "long hauls". I just don't trust them with an expensive bike. I suspect that any and all would really "bounce". I really liked your presentation! J

      Ah, I was mostly joking, I replace my oil at the interval and stuff, but I've heard of these engines taking ridiculous abuse. The only downside is these bikes are too heavy to wheelie. Well, wheelie any good. Only can wheelie in first gear around 3-10mph, but then you hit rev limiter at 20 which happens really fast so it's hard to hit balance point. I've never done it and have never seen anyone do it yet. Otherwise, it's an awesome commuting bike. I'm paying it off in April and getting a second bike for fun because it's just so good for commuting haha. Doesn't get hot, can do 110, upright, not twitchy, it's just a good bike, enjoy it.

      Great choice. I ride a CB500X which is basically the same bike wrapped in different fairings. I've had my bike for two years and I absolutely love it. It makes a fantastic commuter, great gas mileage, great off the line acceleration and it can handle any highway.

    have you thought of the trailer hitch mounted bike carrier, it inserts into trailer hitch, and is built to hold a moto parallel to vehicle rear bumper. I would think it might be a great option for you in this situation.... remove it and hang it up in garage or take it into your flat. I have seen supersport bikes strapped in on the websites..... Love your content, been subd for yrs, thanks!!

    Yeah Cycle CRUZA that Diavel is sick but I have a hard time considering that a cruiser. It’s a beast though. And it looks great man. Hopefully the maintenance is reasonable.

    Harley Breakout or the other Harley based on the 340 rear tire. I'm not sure if that Boulevard has a 240 or 200 rear tire.

    Extended Freeway use would be a major factor for me. I have used many trailers and they have wobble issues, tire failure issues, and parts and pieces that pins fall out of. I have experienced them all over the years minus the Motorcycle trailer. If a tire fails on a cheep trailer, will it destroy the bike? Are the pins held by cheep clips? Storage of this seems to be the least factor when you compare it to dealing with problems on a trip somewhere.

    Fuck 240 rear tire, he got a Diavel or the fucking V-rod. I told you cycle cruza, dont get no fucking v-rod. It starts with getting a "killer deal" on a Harley, then you start wearing the gear from the Harley boutiques to look like a "real badass" Soon you are wearing a dew rag without a helmet, ass-less chaps, and a leather vest with nothing underneath showing off your beer belly. Then you start to go bald so you think getting an earring will make you look young again. I'm telling you man its a slippery slope, starts riding a V-rod, before you know it you are riding all kinds of rods. Booty warrior is out there brother.

    1) Kendon
    2) Stinger
    3) Ace
    If you have any concerns about reliability or build quality, don't get it. Yeah you can get a cheap trailer, but what WON'T be cheap is the repair bill if your cheap-trailer breaks with your motorcycle on it.

  • @MikiedarkensvtSmith
    @MikiedarkensvtSmith 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    does any of the trailers come with a warranty? Even say the cheap trailer was to offer it and the rest did not I take up on it. So if any welds was to break or issues like that the company would cover repairing it or replacing it. Aside from that I am in favor of the ace compact and the ultra tow trailers. However you choose it is something you will be keeping for some time so take your time.

    My advice would be to move out further into the country so some communist neighborhood association can't dictate what you have.
    I use a $900 trailer from Lowes that will haul 2 bikes plus some gear.
    Mmmmm... just 2 more days til Ducati day!
