  • Full Fantasy movie dedicated to Rosetta Mission: "Ambition" film is a collaboration between Platige Image and ESA.
    Directed by Tomek Bagiński and starring Aidan Gillen and Aisling Franciosi, Ambition was shot on location in Iceland, and screened on 24 October 2014 during the British Film Institute’s celebration of Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder, at the Southbank, London.
    Video by ESA/Platige Image.
    Imagine: with a wasteland as their canvas, a Master and his young Apprentice set about turning rubble into planets and moons, asteroids and comets. They levitate the worlds above their heads, spinning them in orbit around their symbolic Sun.
    “What is the key to life on Earth?” asks the Master.
    The Apprentice shakes her head. The answer is obvious: water.
    “For a long time, the origins of water, and indeed life on our planet remained an absolute mystery. So we began searching for answers beyond Earth,” the Master continues.
    “In time we turned to comets. One trillion celestial balls of dust, ice, complex molecules, left over from the birth of our Solar System. Once thought of as messengers of doom and destruction, and yet so enchanting.
    “And we were to catch one: a staggeringly ambitious plan.”
    Science fiction? No - science fact.
    As Tomek Bagiński’s short film Ambition makes clear, it is the essence of what it means to be human, to attempt difficult things, to reach for seemingly impossible goals, to learn, adapt and evolve.
    And at the heart of this film is Rosetta, ESA’s real mission to rendezvous with, escort and land on a comet. A mission that began as a dream, but that after decades of planning, construction and flight through the Solar System, has arrived at its goal.
    The making of ‘Ambition’
    Its aim? To unlock the secrets hidden within the icy treasure chest for 4.6 billion years. To study its make-up and its history. To search for clues as to our own origins.
    From 100 km distance, to 50, 30 and then, defying all expectations, to just 10 km, Rosetta continues to captivate and intrigue with every image and every data packet returned.
    It will rewrite the textbooks of cometary science.
    But there is more, an even greater challenge, another ambitious first: to land on the comet.
    The stage is set. The date: 12 November 2014.
    “As a science fiction writer, it’s hard to think of a more stirring theme than the origin and ultimate destiny of life in the Universe,” says Alastair Reynolds.
    “With the arrival of Rosetta at 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko - an astonishing, audacious technical achievement, literally the stuff of science fiction - we are on the brink of a bold new chapter in our understanding of our place in the Universe.”
    Ambition the film
    “Rosetta is less than 10 km from a comet, and both are racing through space at over 60 000 km/h,” says Matt Taylor, ESA’s Rosetta project scientist.
    “Next month, we’ll be attempting to land on the comet, and with our orbiting spacecraft, we’ll continue to keep pace with the comet for another year or more, watching how it evolves over time.
    “All of this is new and unique and has never been done before. It may sound like science fiction, but it’s a reality for the teams that have dedicated their entire lives to this mission, driven to push the boundaries of our technology for the benefit of science and to seek answers to the biggest questions regarding our Solar System’s origins.”

    This video inspired me so deeply that I come every once and then to watch it again and it doesn't go away more then 5 months that I don't quote it again. Thank you ESA, I'd love to work for SPACE COMMUNICATION It's a wonderful interdisciplinary job.

    More about Rosetta
    Rosetta is an ESA mission with contributions from its Member States and NASA. Rosetta’s Philae lander is provided by a consortium led by DLR, MPS, CNES, and ASI. Rosetta is the first mission in history to rendezvous with a comet. It is escorting the comet as they orbit the Sun, and will deploy a lander.
    Comets are time capsules containing primitive material left over from the epoch when the Sun and its planets formed. By studying the gas, dust and structure of the nucleus and organic materials associated with the comet, via both remote and in situ observations, the Rosetta mission should become the key to unlocking the history and evolution of our Solar System, as well as answering questions regarding the origin of Earth’s water and perhaps even life.

      Canale25 Haha WOW, How many times will they get egg on their face before they admit comets are not, never have been and NEVER will be balls of ice? If they spent as much time looking at the data as they did on this preconceived propaganda they might actually learn something. Thanks to the actual Comet 67P for once again making scientists look like idiots, sadly, like idiots, they still don't get it. Its an Electrical Universe out there, nothing to do with gravity! And once that electricity is accounted for, a simple calculation confirms the creation of all the oceans in a single day.

    • @ThunderbirdAnthares
      @ThunderbirdAnthares 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Hawaiiguy Kailua actually, comets do contain ice, and no, they are not solid balls of ice
      electric universe is a interesting theory... mostly... but unfortunately its kind of a collection of misunderstandings, misconceptions and some outright craziness
      have fun tapping the inside of your glass jar though, you might be stuck there for a while

    • @hawaiiguykailua6928
      @hawaiiguykailua6928 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thunderbird Anthares Don't get me wrong, I grew up on modern science as well, but after 7 or so years post graduate school I have learned a lot of other compelling science. I would be the first to hope plasma physics and electrical engineering gets the look it deserves (within) in the standard model. Its unbelievable that even in the face of Nobel Winners (Alfvens, Langmuir, etc.) the "club" is so far up its own ass it refuses to even look at the Safire Project findings. The phase I work established more than we could hope for, Phase II will be looked back upon 50 years from now as the begrudging turning point in astronomical science. Gravity will still be here no doubt, but the actual source, [?cause (plasma/ electricity/ magnetism?" ) = effect(gravity)] will be well on its way to being determined, and suns will indeed be the electric balls they show all the signs of being. Its not church, its science and there is no place for dogma. , get it wrong, move along, get it wrong for over 100 years(or 60+ in Dr. Fred Whipples case) get a new line of work.

    • @ThunderbirdAnthares
      @ThunderbirdAnthares 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Hawaiiguy Kailua stars being electric balls...
      okay man... i understand you like your own hypothesis, and its okay to have your own opinion, but... its wrong, sorry... please dont attempt to science any more :-)

    • @hawaiiguykailua6928
      @hawaiiguykailua6928 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thunderbird Anthares okay, I guess scientific proof doesn't count anymore, and I wonder why I even bother to help enlighten. It's not as if ignoring the laws of physics is okay for a nuclear sun...oh wait that's exactly what that continually disproven theory does!

    So many complain that Sci Fi is all dark and doomsday now, its always been a mix of both ways if you go back to the old written stuff, read some of the great anthologys and its split between hope and horror just as it is now.
    We have more access to more forms of media and storytelling and the algorithms they learn from us. They see we watch a dozen dark and twisty sci fi films in a row and they throw links to ten more in front of our face. We feed the machine the information about what we like to watch and it in turn feeds us more of the same until you've spent a week bingeing a dark future unfolding.
    If you want bright, hopeful, and fantastical, click on more videos along those lines, don't sit in the comments and bemoan the loss of the way it used to be in the "golden age" of scifi.

    My choosing this video as part of my being entertained was a great choice. Keep that in mind please if you should read on.
    Wardrobe was unique, but simple. I don't do well with movies trying to put poetic prose into their deep messages; those and income taxes - both get the Homer stare. What's the story again?
    Otherwise, thank goodness for the 'kewl' CGI that seemed to put my confusion on hold. How it might tie in with the ESA Rosetta mission is, to me, my next mission - and to find out how the Rosetta mission is doing today.
    A well-done and interesting short - I was entertained quite nicely - thank you

    If you dare dream and hope that these sites and visions can be the ultimate future for the human species, then know that you are not alone. But you will have to first find the way to stop old age, sickness, and ultimately death. There are those who say with complete conviction and not blind faith that this is not only possible, but coming. Are you a dreamer? Then seek. Ask. Listen. For this is the truth. Even dreams do come true.
