What's really amazing is that somebody, or some people got paid a lot of money to design this grand intermodal center in a very central location, but simply didn't have the vision to ask "what if one of the trains that use this station end up being more than 12 cars long?" I mean, Metrorail was extended here too at a big cost, and we cap this excellent grand design with a simple silly mistake as train length? Miami, and really Florida in general, have such a HUGE potential for rail expansion in all categories, and to see money wasted on unused station facilities because of being short sighted and over looking a simple thing as train length and not being able to turn the equipment at a terminus, is really inexcusable. It goes to show you that money doesn't buy everything, and how public money gets thrown into the trash, and nobody gets held accountable for their mistakes.

I took a look at the satellite map of this location and I will take an educated guess: at one time there was a rudimentary crossing of sorts at this location, for vehicles to obtain access the surrounding land, and the one through street. I noted the main street dead ends str8 ahead. It's likely this was done to prevent future legal action by land owners for blocking access to their property. This also makes this location attractive to developers. What I do not get is this: unless this is a private road or is deemed unsafe, how can the authorities lock it down ?

Google Maps is one of the best inventions ever. I found out why they placed this crossing here. I pinned it in the comments section in case you'd like to read it. Thanks as always for the support, C!
@@railrol82 Oh wow, maybe if I read your pinned comment I'd get the idea LOL, but your welcome for the support.. I should start making train videos again soon! =) Just gotta wait a little bit yet, maybe about another month, since it's still rather chilly and transportation is still limited.
Tubs boat Crocket car HA. Because safety people are belts and suspenders type, pants will never fall down with double over kill
You're right on the money there, Jim! I can't argue with that. Thanks as always for the views and comments.
Looks like some kind of traffic incident with wrecked signs and downed fencing...!!
Thanks as always for the views and comments, Rick!
I've been always curious about that road myself looking at it on Google maps. My guess they're eventually going to open it but I don't know anything about that area unfortunately. Supposedly that road is abruptly blocked by overgrown trees but passed it is a huge parking lot. It almost seems like a pointless road as there's another road easily leading towards the parking lot. It's like they made this road by accident, I guess it's going to be a mystery for another while.
The road used to connect through where the parking lot is, according to the 1981 topo map.
I found out why they placed this crossing here. I pinned it in the comments section in case you'd like to read it. Thanks as always for the support, gentlemen!
Good afternoon Susan, wow! You never told me you had a law degree! That is such an elaborate guess which makes a lot of sense. If I ever catch a case, I want you representing me! I found out what happened with this crossing... I pinned it in the comments section, it is a lot to type. Hope all is well with you, stay safe out there!
@@railrol82 IMO bringing the crossing up to code, avoiding a court battle with landowners dependent on the crossing maintained for access to their property, and future planning- development.
By me, if there’s a railroad, airport, or a toll road, you can bet it will be developed.

is that the new amtrak station looking south?
The "not so new" Amtrak station is located a few blocks North of NW 79th ST on NW 37th Ave. I believe it's been there since the late 70s. The station just South of this crossing is Tri Rail.
It isn't necessarily wasted. It could be a private crossing for a house that may be built at that location

@@railrol82 Just trying to look for the best of it. Also, I have found possible abandoned railroads. I will try to add the location in the description, if not, I can tell you approximately where they are. Here's a question for you; Have you seen and/or rode a harrier jet before?
Dose Amtrak run here too???
They had plans for it to, but they didn't build the station platform long enough! Thanks as always for the views and comments, Anthony.

Why is the gate closed? with the crossing signal
I pinned the answer to your question in my comments section, if you're interested. It is a lot to type! Thanks as always for the views and comments, Ravyn.
OK thanks
👍👍🚉 My guess it is because of laws and regulations they had to install them there. In case if in the future they have to extend that street.
That would've been my guess too, D. I found out why they placed this crossing here. I pinned it in the comments section in case you'd like to read it. Thanks as always for the support my friend.
It’s possibly a road going to a project that has been delayed.

It must be a crossing for the animals. lol I'm guessing they put that crossing for safety? lol

The Tri-Rail line at Miami International Airport, hey, I was on that train, one day in the third week of May 2019 , had a long wait at that station, it wss too hot that day and every other car air conditioning unit was inoperative. To answer your question, why did they put that crossing in there, simple, So you can find it! LOL, until you split a side.
J, first of all, as a person who has an autobiographical memory, I salute you on remembering you were on that train in the 3rd week of May 2019! And 2nd of all, I was just entertaining the thought of doing an update video on this BECAUSE I just recently found out what happened here AND spoke to someone who even saw it on the news! So you bet your bottom dollar that I'll be making a part 2! I don't want to give out too much at this point, but wow. Let's just say, everyday I grow more and more disappointed by my fellow Miamians. Lastly, you sound like an intelligent, interesting person. I'd like to share a cold one with you one day, to shoot the sh!t. Thanks as always for the support of my channel!

A closed crossing ok, that's money well spent.
I'm with you, C. There's several thousand dollars here that could be so useful elsewhere. I'd just place concrete barriers, remove the equipment, and call it a day. Thank you for your support of my channel as always!
It's like in Germany, if you ask the officals, you get an answer and may be 10 or more pieces of paper and you are not wiser as before. If you want more, read Ephraim Kishon, I hope the booktitel in English is right, the Bluemilk channel, a very angry satire about public Administration.🇺🇸👍Greatings from Germany

How can I use a tripod if I'm trying to walk and show you different things?
@@railrol82 My camera is mounted on a tripod and aimed holding the tripod just below the camera. (The small mass of the tripod also helps dampen camera movement!)

@@robertgift Thanks for the heads up.
When you're given the cash you gotta use it on government jobs. You can't send it back or you won't get it for the next project! When CP wanted to close off 18th St between St Paul and Mt Vernon it had wooden barricades for 6 months and then.because people moved them the last 6.months were concrete barriers. This was a blind Xing and the bell failed. This may have been the last Griswold stop sign Xing in Milwaukee. The stop sign was removed in the late 1980s but the base was pure 1930/1940
You're absolutely right about using it or losing it my friend. I once had a Ben n Jerry's distribution route and county parks work the same way. Even though one park sold all the ice cream in 1 day, they couldn't order anymore because of all this red tape, budgets, request forms etc etc. What a shame! I'd loved to have seen that 1930s base!
Ok Roly I got one that meets the challenge: My Evans Station video th-cam.com/video/QksFSZxvJ6Q/w-d-xo.html where there has been a Class 1 RR crossing and not a single accident in twenty years because there has never been a train down it although it always and still is listed as an active rail line.
