I traded my Escalade for a 2019 AWD SE and I wish I would have gotten it years ago. The kids are happy in their own spots and we can fit sooo much in it. It’s an amazing vehicle.
Give an update on that new transmission with direct drive and CVT. Is there lag in it when you accelerate? You can drift in the snow with awd Sienna's!
Could you check your driver seat. I just bought mine and looked at several others but the driver seats are not centered. For example all car's driver seat centers around the steering wheel but ones I've tried doesn't. The driver seat is rotated little bit to the left. Even my friend who had 2015 model told me the same thing.
I have a 2012 Sienna Limited. A ton of similarities in the componentry and fit-finish (third gen). A testament to a great design as Toyota has kept it around for almost a decade. 159K on mine, and still running strong. With such a long production run, it's clear people won't have trouble getting parts to keep these vans on the roads for a long, long time.
My belief is that the body roll you mention right in the beginning of the video is the tires. I've owned two AWD Siennas and they don't have a spare tire, so they come with run-flat tires. Run-flat tires have a terrible ride, poor handling capability, and wear out quickly. When the tires wore out on my vans I replaced them with a mid to high end tire and the difference was amazing. The body roll and handling improved dramatically, but the weight of the van combined with my aggressive driving habits still wore the tires out quickly. The tires made it feel newer than the day I drove it off the lot, with tight and responsive steering and handling like you expect from a new car. We went with a high speed rated Michelin tire and it was a 100% improvement. After putting the new tires on our Siennas, they actually became fun vehicles to drive.
The best minivan for decades. I have been driving so many different minivan brands but the Sienna stands out as the most reliable and the most refined. 286K miles without any major issues. Still runs on original engine, transmission, AC, suspension, Fuel pump, paint, electrical windows. Amazing brand and amazing minivan.
I rented a 2018 model last year. Drove it over 600 mile round trip with my wife and 3 children. They all loved this minivan. Lots of room inside so easy for the wife to move back and forth between the passenger seat and the other rows even when the car is in driving mode. The ride Is so comfortable and smooth. Acceleration and maneuvering is excellent comparing to it being a minivan and AWD! Great review Dave. Keep up the good reviews coming.
Probably the most utilitarian vehicle you could buy if you don’t absolutely need off road capacity. Much bigger than the Pacifica and crazy reliable. Nothing is more comfortable on a road trip and way more cargo than ANY SUV.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your minivan reviews! Especially this one! Of course, I am biased. Our family owns three minivans. LOL 2017 Toyota sienna SE premium, 2018 Kia Sedona, and 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. And we love them all! The Sienna is definitely our workhorse! Thank you for this great review!
I have a 2015 Sienna XLE and use it mostly to haul stuff. Removed the rear seats when I purchased it & never bothered to replaced them. A feature seldom advertised in this car is that you can slide a standard 4 X 8 sheet of plywood in the rear with the seats removed and as many 8 ft 2X4 s as you want. I've done it more than once. The roof rack is also handy for carrying stuff. Why not get a pickup? I've had several trucks and hate the stiff ride. This is a smooth riding, quiet car and I've never needed to haul any really heavy stuff. All wheel drive is great, especially here in Michigan where there is lots of snow and ice.
I consider the negatives of AWD. Are they run flats? Spare tire available? Run flats are expensive to replace. If you have to replace one tire do you have to replace all 4 because of AWD system? Service of the AWD system, extra expense.
@guy proulx Grand Caravans are still sold in the fleet market. I had a new one as a rental last month. You would have guessed it was a 13 year old van by the interior and the the way it handled.
Noted. Did you know, you can see which local dealership is offering the lowest prices in your area by visiting quotes.everymandriver.com It’s a free site for both NEW and USED cars and trucks based on your zip code: quotes.everymandriver.com
Good vid. One thing you didn't mention: Even in 2020 the new Sienna is still a derivative of the 2004 (second gen) Sienna. Make a chart of the stats (weight, length, wheelbase, height, width) and you will see they are making nearly the same van a decade and a half later. The new Pacifica (eww, Chrysler, gross) is the newest original van concept. The engine in the Sienna is, in itself, a derivative of the 1992 3.0 1MZ-FE V6. It's gone from all iron to iron block and aluminum heads to being all aluminum, and is nowadays being coupled with things like electronic steering to reduce loads on the engine and boost the power without needing to design a whole new V6. Hence the increasing amount of horsepower over previous generation without any increased torque. The MZ-FE series (just like the 4-cylinder engines of the era) were very well engineered, so maybe we should be glad that Toyota has invested in interior remodeling instead of spending those millions of dollars on creating a brand new engine.
Thanks for the review boss! Trying to figure out vans for the growing fam. Only contrastive criticism would be dropping your audio levels a bit. You’re voice is too powerful for your mic and current levels 😉
We love ours. We traded in a 2006 Sequoia with high miles. The gas difference alone pays several payments. I wish the front seats out of our sequoia were in this van, and I’m looking for a thicker front sway bar. Wish it had a factory tow hitch, LED headlights, and remote start. We love the AWD, and put a huge igloo cooler in the back for trips to Sam’s Club and vacations.
Everyman Driver The pre 2015 models used to have a hidden diff lock feature when shifted into manual. Have you heard if this is true on the newer models? I haven’t found it on mine yet.
Try to cover what you get for each step up in trim. We got an XLE AWD premium, but I’ve always wondered if the Limited had better leather and a better center console. You get better wheels with the AWD, and I didn’t want AwD but now I’m glad we got it.
Thanks for your awesome review on this Toyota sienna 2020 One of my favorite minivan and I used to have 2014 sienna XLe AWD this is such a excellent MINI BUS experience in my life ...!!
Just purchased 2020 XLE AWD Sienna, finally replacing our 2004 same model. Thanks for demo on center seat removal, one of the items I was looking for. Hoping to find similar demo on sliding center console next to the driver (I do miss the old option of removing the console altogether), current info on run flat tires that are installed on AWD models. Also wish the side view mirrors could be folded in electronically. would be a great feature for this very wide ride. Almost everything else about the vehicle, however, means we'll be at least as happy in it as we were with our 2004 --
I have the the 2011 sienna and what I noticed is that the over the head button for the open/closing of the doors may sometimes not work, Just like on my car. I brought it back to the dealer and they said there is nothing wrong with it. Now I don't use it since it is not working.
jason camper I’m a single guy too, though I once asked Dave Erickson to marry me. I’ve owned TWO minivans, both Honda Odysseys. Minivans are the best, most practical vehicles ever, whether you’re married with a family, or single. I used to carry my surfboard inside mine.
Just thought of something, can you check to see if the door is truly locked? If it unlocks automatically with my hand on the handle, will it stay locked if I just pushed the lock button or turn the key?
My wife bought her Sienna SE new in 2015. Fabulous vehicle with one exception, the brakes. They are the weak point of this vehicle. Brake pads and rotors in the front at 40,000 kms (24,000 mi), then at 90,000 kms (54,000 mi) front and rear pads and rotors. It’s not her driving, she is a safe driver, doesn’t speed or late brake. Was told by Toyota service that it’s a common problem. Otherwise a 👍up for the Sienna.🇨🇦
I heard that from Toyota techs that don't work there anymore the rotors don't hold the heat, they warp. A set of drilled and slotted may work or like autozone's max discs, and pads. I had a slide pin that bent. some 14's and 15's had a TSB to cut the plastic in the front to cool the brakes. Frquent washing (car wash) and lubing of slide pins might be needed.
I love minivans. That said, having to physically remove the second row seats is a big negative for me. I hope the next generation Sienna has something similar to the Pacifica's Stow'N Go feature.
I have a 2020 Toyota sienna and I can't remember how to reset the average mpg on the display. Can someone please refresh my memory? I know I've done it before and it's something simple but I just can't remember what it was.
When it comes to spending money on a vehicle, you really get more with a minivan. All these SUVs and Crossovers are small and tight inside. I feel like I am getting less vehicle for the money. Of course, these vans get quickly expensive, but they're worth it.
The headrest is very so annoying because it bent forward instead straight up. Toyota should make headrest shorter and straight up would be much better.
My '13 has the same features. Only thing Toyota doesn't do well is not having storage under the passenger middle seats. Otherwise, Honda, Nissan or Toyota's minivans are the best.
The Sienna is probably the most dependable and longest lasting minivan out there. With that said, the AWD models eat through tires prematurely. Toyota also needs to hire better designers. Their vehicles are consistently borderline ugly at best.
i wish i could reduce body roll and and some more hp and torque. And maybe wider wheels and tires, more grip and steering feel. Tires are 235 width on a 7 inch wide wheel, a bit skinny for a such a wide vehicle.
You would be suprised how similar they behave. Crossovers and SUV's have a higher center of gravity but minivans weigh more. Crossovers and SUV's are just cars on stilts. They aren't any more useful than a station wagon and they cost more to buy and maintain than a wagon. Unless the SUV has a locking differential, you are just buying your crossover or SUV because it has a higher ride height and because they are trendy, not because they are better to drive.
The sticker price plays a role, yes, but the profit margins should be different; and yet it's not. So there is something more to it. So what is it? Does it provide a similar driving experience than its competitors? Does the every day driver really care about all the bells and whistles? I think it would be a great review opportunity for this channel based on its name.
@guy proulx The Dodge Caravan was cancelled and replaced by the Dodge Journey in 2008. The Grand Caravan is about 11" longer than the Caravan and it is still sold to rental companies and maybe other fleet buyers.
All wheel drive really sucks. I had one with AWD and its terrible. Limited selection of quick wearing expensive tires that ride hard. And if you get a flat you have to replace all the tires, if they don’t have the same amount of wear or you damage the AWD system and most places will not repair them because it’s not recommended. Some people want to replace them with regular tires but there is no spare. The space where the spare would go is taken up by the extra drivetrain to accommodate the all wheel drive. That means you have to carry the spare in the passenger compartment. The gas milage is absolutely terrible. With all that said I still think it is the best minivan out there. The Honda doesn’t even come close except reliability. I just bought a 2020, with regular drive and it is a wonderful vehicle. Just don’t buy the AWD. It’s a real horror-show. I can’t understand everbody’s obsession with SUVs. They get worse gas milage, have less interior space, get worse and cost more.
I'm really impressed with this Sienna and would give it strong consideration if not for one glaring omission.... no ventilated seats! That would be a deal-breaker for me.
@@reidloscidem3562 the Grand Caravan is obsolete and they only reason they're selling so much is because they're significantly cheaper than all the other vans (which is why they suck to be in) the rental car companies and fleet people love them
@@lillypatience yeah I was at an auto show test driving the New Camry and I specifically ask when you guys getting android auto he said 2020 so I'm guessing the model year
All the kids piling in the back? This guy is still living in the 90's and early 2000's. Fact, Everyman driver; the average family only has 1.8 kids, can't justify a minivan for that. The minivan is looking for an older demographic where the driver's are older and for the most part the kids are gone. Fact is, these minivans are very comfortable and quiet and the manufacturers are not necessarily looking at families that buy these vans but couples that used to have families and know how utilitarian and comfortable these vans were and are simply getting better.
you can disable the power sliding doors and they run slow enough that they're a non issue tbh (parents had '12 Sienna, family with toddlers for siblings)
Both my 2008 and 2009 sliding doors stopped working passenger side on the 2009 couldn't open happened around 180,000 2008 it happened on the driver's side around 250,000...on the 2009 my oil pump blew out and spewed oil all over...a known service issue the dealer I bought it from Raymond Chevy didn't seem to find on its 120 point inspection... luckily it blew out before I paid them and they fixed it....
Could argue that buying a late model in the 3rd generation is a good bet. Toyota has perfected the design at this point, along with having a fleet of nearly a decade worth of gen 3 Siennas out there. That equals cheap repairs, easy to find parts, and overall lengthy ownership.
This van is a TANK in the snow. Blizzard from Colorado to Washington few years back and this van got me and mine through safe and sound.
I think it depends, if you have winter tires on that probably got you safe

Body, roll, find any van that doesn't drive that way. Strange that you point that out.
I am curious why not do that on all SUVs/CUVs. They should in theory be worse as they have a higher center of gravity.
It is not a sports car, Mini vans are designed to be high capacity cargo and people movers.

We traded our 2017 Toyota Sienna for the 2020 one it costs us $27,000 for the brand new 2020 Toyota Sienna
The Toyota Sienna minivan is more reliable than the Honda Odyssey van. There are only 4 minivans made today from Chrysler, Honda, Toyota & Kia
And Dodge, which is still outselling them all.
@@reidloscidem3562 the Grand Caravan is obsolete and they only reason they're selling so much is because they're significantly cheaper than all the other vans (which is why they suck to be in)
the rental car companies and fleet people love them
We love our 2011

The sienna needs a redesign
joshua ooroth it’s coming soon
Cry more
im from the future, your wish came true, but you get hybrid only and degrade of horse power. 296 to 240 Sad.
downfall is the passenger seats doesnt fold down
Why dont they just call the limited a Lexus make the buyer feel like they have a luxury van which it is.
But what about Android Auto? That should also be standard. I'm frustrated that Toyota hasn't put Android Auto in all its vehicles
It should after 2020
@@1985toyotacamry When I bought my 2020 Sienna, they told me Android Auto will be a software upgrade at the end of this year. Here's hoping.
@@lillypatience yeah I was at an auto show test driving the New Camry and I specifically ask when you guys getting android auto he said 2020 so I'm guessing the model year
Dave does it have a spare or those lousy run flats?
Dave McGuigan run flats, no spare on awd
I have no spare looking into Good sam club!
How much Can it tow?
3,500 lbs
Great and thank you so much
Thank you for great review with nice explain.
It helps a lot. Sir
Looks like my 2014 which it’s sweet
Did you have any trouble with that bear cub during the shoot?
sorry but i prefer 2020 honda odyssey much better package and it comes in different colors.
@guy proulx Odyssey always going have transmission problems. New Odyssey the front look nice but side and back is ugly, the weird curve lines molding.
With this car I won't have to pay rent! That's a home on wheels.
Malandvula Machawe that’s what I do
This is exactly why I'm thinking about getting one of these.
I have the 2021 sienna
All the kids piling in the back? This guy is still living in the 90's and early 2000's. Fact, Everyman driver; the average family only has 1.8 kids, can't justify a minivan for that. The minivan is looking for an older demographic where the driver's are older and for the most part the kids are gone. Fact is, these minivans are very comfortable and quiet and the manufacturers are not necessarily looking at families that buy these vans but couples that used to have families and know how utilitarian and comfortable these vans were and are simply getting better.
Upgrade it to the TRD suspension! Problem solved!..lol
This is a 9 year old design now😭😩
more like 10 years old. very bad for Toyota to keep the same design over 6 years. looks so dated and old.
Sales are lagging behind the Honda Odyssey. Toyota has better get their act together, so Sienna will be archaic soon.
britton coil yes thank you. The new one is coming
Nice van, but not so happy with the power (open/ close) sliding doors. I've sad stories about such doors and little fingers.
you can disable the power sliding doors
and they run slow enough that they're a non issue tbh
(parents had '12 Sienna, family with toddlers for siblings)
Don't worry. The door motors will crap out and you'll lose the power open/close function.
400,000 on my 2008 sold it for 1000,my 2009 had 190,000 on it when someone totaled it
Both my 2008 and 2009 sliding doors stopped working passenger side on the 2009 couldn't open happened around 180,000 2008 it happened on the driver's side around 250,000...on the 2009 my oil pump blew out and spewed oil all over...a known service issue the dealer I bought it from Raymond Chevy didn't seem to find on its 120 point inspection... luckily it blew out before I paid them and they fixed it....
We have a 2019 Sienna XLE.
The only word you can add to this vehicle that would destroy the competition? Hybrid. I wonder if Toyota has any experience with this 🤔
Oooooh them calf’s 😻😻🤪
Sammy D. That’s what I’m here for
first nice vid
My god, did that hurt my ears. Please pay attention to your microphone. Really hurts when wearing earphones
2021 Sienna is on the way, why buy 2020 model
Could argue that buying a late model in the 3rd generation is a good bet. Toyota has perfected the design at this point, along with having a fleet of nearly a decade worth of gen 3 Siennas out there. That equals cheap repairs, easy to find parts, and overall lengthy ownership.
Perfect car to drop off the kids at school and go offroad at moab afterward
