    Hey Matt….thanks for the tip. I asked you about the issue I had with the line wrapping the front prop when you discussed the baits you used and you said you’d address it and you did. I thought I was doing something wrong!! Hey since you went over the baits you used at Okeechobee you can’t find a spin rocket online anywhere!! I hope Berkley appreciates you increasing the prop bait sales by 1000%!! I like the Lucky Craft Kelly Jordan prop bait….smaller profile than that but I can’t find one those right now but I will be getting one and the plastic props make a different sound to boot!! Thanks again for answering my prop tangling question!! 👍

    My favorite is the Rapala X-Rap Prop. Produces vicious strikes. I've also used a Devil's Horse although the paint doesn't hold up as well.

    For subtle, the old Torpedo or Bang o lure tail prop. More action go to the twin spin or devil horse. On the obnoxious end of the spectrum old wood chopper, (had aspirations of chasing Peacock Bass in Brazil back in the day). Fun bite. Most always target oriented fishing.

    I fish a couple prop baits but fish them less than I would like specifically because of the line twisting around the prop. Thank you for the tip that will have me fish a prop topwater more this year

    I myself have never used the Berkeley version of this lure. For quite a few years here in Florida, I've thrown the Devil's Horse. My best tip is short, slow pulls.

    Couldn't find these. Went and picked up a Rapala xRap prop. Thing looks gooood in the water. Just need it to get a little warmer than the '30s to really test er' out.

    Had about 1hr to chuck at a reservoir today. 7 miles outside of Philly. Got bit twice throwing a white Picasso all-terrain with a 6” spro wave tail trailer, also white …. If I had all day, it would’a been offensive!

    I have always used tubing the size of the red "straw" that comes with WD-40 for prop baits such as Devils Horses . You can peg it in place with a piece of a wooden tooth pick to keep the line out of the front prop . Sometimes you can find clear straws that come with spray cans of brake or contact cleaner and those are best .

    Matt have you tried using a Bimini Twist Knot in front of the Spin Rocket or does the tubing work better? Also your prediction of more blue in 2023 came true with the black/blue blue tip worm took 1 and 3 at the Bass Pro Tour have you tried that worm yet?

    🍺Thanks Matt. I personally choose to throw some of my favorite “top waters”(spooks, frogs, poppers) to specific targets then if no bites I follow that up with a spy bait to see if they want it a bit more sub surface. I prefer my spy baits to have small blades and flat bottoms but I use larger bladed spy baits as my “prop bait” because there are so many more sizes/colors available in that so called technique/category.🤠

    I've run tubing on my woodchopper fished the same way. Back twenty years ago I gave away my Devil Horses because of the line and front prop. It just got two aggravating before I learned the tubing trick. The boy next door loved it! And catches fish on it. The ice is melting and I'll be trying the spin rocket soon.

    The Spin Rocket reminds me a lot of the Smithwick Devil’s Horse. Haven’t fished it in years and don’t why. It was a great topwater bait.

  • @michaelgraham7316

    Thanks for the tip about the bobber stop. I will try that next time I am using a topwater. I have had great luck in the past with the Devils Horse and Dying Flutter. I will also try the Spin Rocket. It looks great and I like the plastic props. The metal ones on the other baits have to be tuned to spin right. Thanks again.

    I’ve looked at every online fishing store I can think if and nobody has the Spin Rocket, that includes Berkeley’s online store. I’ve also checked EBay and Amazon. I had one until two years ago to a big northern pike while fishing for smallmouth up north. I wish I could find some.

    Have you ever tried to fully hook a bass in the mouth with just your hand and a hook, there mouths are to hard to do that. Bass get fully hooked on 6LB. slack line that is what I do not seem to understand ? They must have some serious PSI jaw pressure ?

  • @normanwiggins1320

    Execent tip on the surgical tubing. I would have the line wrapped around the prop and then taken it off. Will give that a try. Hope someday a pro asks me for a bait. Met Tako Ito on Cayuga lake last year in one of our tournaments but he didn't ask for a bait

  • @joestrummer9507

    Surely a devil's horse copy, NOT an improvement. Different sound with plastic props but the great thing about the DH (which anyone can still get) is you can adjust the amount of splash the props make by bending them, out for more splash and noise and in for less, which is great when you want a slower or faster retrieve or twitch. The plastic blades make it a one trick pony IMO, cheaper to make and thus more profit. Like your vids Matt but no thanks Berkley.

    • @MattStefanFishing
      @MattStefanFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      Completely disagree but to each their own. Honestly a devils horse in my opinion is no where near as good as the top prop baits on the market and i wont even throw them anymore. I also prefer the clear plastic blades over metal blades since they spin better, make better sound, and dont reflect sunlight. But again stick with what you have confidence in.

    • @williamgould2470
      @williamgould2470 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I can't remember the name of the smaller one. When I use a devil's horse and there are some pretty good ripples on the water then I do jerk it harder
