Most of today Hollywood actresses, came from at least upper-middleclass background, attended acting school since young, and able to get acting gigs via their family conncection. Thirty years ago, this is less prevelance, and Silverstone has to beat who knows how many thousands of aspiring child actresses from all over the US to be considered.
Also, with the corporatization of fillmmaking, what they call charisma, is the girlboss CEO type, not magnetic attraction which this girl try to show.

I love the subtle little games she plays with him, it truly shows how crazy she is. Her giggle, her smile and taunts him, "Whatever you say." She's testing him and his patience is growing thin. The way she says *Nick* 1:57 is so noticeable. Like "Nick, I love doing what I'm doing and I'll make your life a living hell." This movie is so underrated and her performance was great!! I still remember watching this growing up and how scary it was for me back than.
Such a great thriller, shame Alicia Silverstone never talks about her early films, especially 'The Crush'.

not great thriller but yes it has an appeal. Its obviously not the kind of movie you would discuss a lot in public. But she did a great job in this as an actor. She seemed really sinister and manipulative. But yes I cannot say I did not like it.

True, we never know how unstable someone is but we get kind of a hint from how they act or what they said which clearly nick should’ve known at the lake area when she was talking about herself and came on to him.
The only thing I can guess is that this girl had to have read a ton of romance novels that were steamy and passionate. That stuff can warp a young girls head.

Actually, Alicia Silverstone's role is pretty tame sexually in this movie, considering she was still a minor at the time of filming. Now, Michelle Johnson, in "Blame It On Rio," was a whole different story. Michelle was 17 years old at the time of filming and did full nude scenes in the movie. "The film was shot on location in Rio de Janeiro. Johnson, who was 17 at the time of filming, received permission from a judge to appear topless in some scenes of the film." That movie had the same older guy, younger girl premise to it as "The Crush." The girl just wasn't a psychopath.
If the girl wasn't a psychopath in that Rio movie, what does she do to lure the guy into the relationship?
@@TycoNewRC The girl in "BIOR," Jennifer, played by Michelle Jonson, was younger, attractive, virile, innocent, seductive, and her father was the best friend of the man she had the relationship with. It was more of a bad judgement (by the much older man), self-control (or lack thereof), and a "heat of the moment" (being in romantic Rio) type of movie. The girl was a typical emotionally unstable teenager, but not a psychopath by any means. By the way, Jennifer's best friend, Nicole, was also the daughter of her lover, and played by none other than Demi Moore. Yeah, it was complicated....lol. "BIOR" is an "interesting" movie, to say the least, and it was really popular when It came out in 1984, when culture was a little more lax to these types of relationships. I am not sure if the movie would hold up in today's more judgemental society, and it probably shouldn't anyway. 🤔

Plot twist: He wasn't trying to reason with her because how can you with a 14-year old who is infatuated with you? He knew he'd gone too far and he was merely trying to talk himself into ceasing contact with her, not the other way around.
He was more afraid that she would tell her parents that he preyed on her

What I hate about this film is that it portrays a 28 year old man as a victim. He was not a victim. He did more than enough on his part. I'm not justifying Darien's psychotic behaviour and cruel actions which go beyond my comprehensive skills, I'm just saying that he's 28 acting like he's fourteen.
Unfortunately for Nick he wasn't firm enough from the start. He had already done enough where if she wanted to she could've destroyed his life, without making a false accusation by the way.
Which is why Adrian gave Nick that soft warning after telling him that Cheyanne was in the hospital!

If he could have held that firm attitude for just a little while longer she would have known he meant business. And where the hell were her parents. If Nick were a true asshole he could have been pounding the hell out of this girl on a nightly basis without the parents being non the wiser. And he could have taken his time doing it.

i find it kinda weird they showed the back of her leg area and her body when she's on the swing in the trailer when she was 15-16 and a MINOR and people defending the guy are just weird the character is a child and she doesn't know any better the guy doesn't even put strong barriers or else he would've pulled away the second she kissed him. as well as the fact that the man who experienced this and made a movie about it would show the characters body as if he was staring at her in that way. kind of strange to put that in. the perspective that the man was looking all together put a bad taste in my mouth. if i'm wrong in any of this please tell me
