Started watching your channel and others like yours during quarantine. TH-cam suddenly started suggesting sailing videos to me in between my usual binge of cars, mountainbikes and trekking videos. I had never really considered sailing before, but after your videos, it seems like it's the kind of life I want. I just need to somehow get enough money together and overcome my lightning phobia. :D Keep it up and safe travels!
Thanks to all of you. More great advice & encouragement. I'm 67 and this is how I want to spend my 70s. I knew it before, but thought it was 'pie in the sky' thinking. I do intend to start with a 1980 Westerly Cirrus 22 or Griffon 26 (whatever is available here in Thailand). Then hopefully move up to a used early 1980s ketch (for greater stability, easier handling with smaller sails, & less heeling).
I liked so much how Ben encouraged people to buy a used Tiny sailboat with a cabin, like a 1980 Westerly Cirrus 22, for like $6,000 or $7,000 and give it a try. That's a minimal investment in something that can literally change your life. Don't get hooked into splashing out on a humungous 35' starter boat ... start small, go slow, let the excitement & experience build! Great advice. I was looking at Westerly 29s etc & realized, whoa I need to do this a step at a time. Rock on!
Wow...what a wonderful experience. Patrick & Dana were courageous and amazing. Ben & Ashley you guys are pros in how you guys work together and how well you instructed them to trust them enough to take a shift. Clearly it transcended on Patrick & Dana. That's how good you both are. You guys are a perfect pair. I'm a professional musician and of course what you do has nothing to do with what I do but watching how you both have overcome everything that has come your way it surely inspire me to push forward in my music despite of the struggles musicians as myself have faced. My respects to you Ben & Ashley. Such inspiration. Oh btw...I love the music selection on your videos. Ok...on to the next video. Amazing videos.
I just recently got into your videos and I never thought I would want to sail but I feel like this is a life I wanna live. I wish I known about you guys when you were in the Philippines tho. Would've been amazing to meet you.
Wow, nothing like a lightning filled squall to bring the excitement level way up there on a boat. The squalls are oh so scary at first, yet they leave you with a exuberant feeling when you find yourself safe at the end. Love Y'all, Ben & Ashley.
I found your channel because I watched a show about a sailboat that wrecked and i was interested in how/why. That was a month ago and I have been hooked and have been watching all your videos. I am terrified of water, cannot swim and probably will never go sailing but love living the life thru the videos. Thanks so much for the entertainment and education of sailing and cultures.
I’m loving your videos. So inspired to do it myself but I’m just too chicken. Y’all really lucked out on the patrons too. They seem like a lot of fun and good help too! Keep on doing what you do and I’ll keep liking your videos. (And binge watching the past years that I missed)
i love the bit where she says i didnt feel scared at all i was in such good hands, you look at your husband as if to say "wow she trusted us?" hahaha. you two make amazing videos
Awesome couple. Great to see total newbies integrate so thoroughly. Easy to see you guys met as sailing instructors, that experience really helped them to learn.
Found your channel on accident last week and Im so intrigued and inspired. You two make sailing look so easy. I love your videos!! Thank you for sharing your journey.
The guy guest had a good point that sailing is stressful terrifying overwhelming at times, and you guys are relaxed cheerful non-stressed ... ya, I laughed. I enjoyed your time on the Tiny Westerly Cirrus 22!
if you're sailing slow try out a tassie devil fishing lure in one of the heaviest sizes and see what it's like, they only cost about $6 and are really worth it.
70% around the world. LOL The map intro is great, showing your progress compressed into 20 seconds, cool. It would be nice to sail as part of a convoy of 5 or 10 sailboats for a week, tying together for dinner each evening, then after a week separating to sail alone and meeting up a month later. Then arranging to all come together on some LOST island later on...
Can’t remember if you guys have ever done a story time ..about your worst and best experiences or I’d like to know what your favourite fish is or some of your favourite meals while sailing. aside from Annie’s lol also your favourite places traveled and why. so ideas ur followers might be interested in hearing about.
It is September 7th today and am following your schedule with interest. I need to get to Thailand as well but for a slightly different reason. I am having a catamaran being built there. Would be nice to meet you.
Sailing at night is nice. If your navigation is good, it's like sitting in a dark room talking to your friends on the radio or just watching the stars.
From previous videos from way back you always impressed me as having a strong sense of keeping safe. BUT on your last video I see that at least Ben has dropped th he ball safety wise with the latest example being his going up on a wet hard top for a minor sail repair in a raging lightning and thunder storm along with their rough and turbulent seas but WITHOUT taking a sec to put on a life belt! This is a bad call and not practicing basic safety Ben!
Wow,luv you 2 now 3..... As I can't afford patrion an can't download Instagram I am grateful for TH-cam an the privilege to get ta kno u thru that ...I am inspired to get to my dream of sailing an living a life in an part of nature. Thanks I enjoyed an learned so so much from this vid. Blessings an love to you 3!!!
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again. You two have the best setup of any boat I’ve ever seen. I’d take your boat over a brand new million dollar cat like some others have ..... 😉
No skipping of ads here. Can't wait to see your new captain sailing Nahoa in the vast Pacific Ocean soon. From the Philippines with love to your family in Canada. My best regards
Reguarding the going bigger question, the thing that drives me bigger is load carrying capacity. I don’t need more space but I don’t want to bog down the boat with weight. We want many luxuries, gen set, ac, water maker, and a clothes washer machine. We sure enjoy your videos.
I watched one of your previous episodes on protection on the boat. have a can of oven cleaner in the goodie basket. It will stop a intruder in his tracks if you spray him
Hello Ashley and Ben!! Would you ever come to Cancún, México???,,,,,I would love to meet you. You are so happy and decent couple that could be awesome! You made me feel like to try something like you did, you remembered me my enjoy about sailing, the thing is that my loving dad passed away few months ago that broke my heart . I took care of him for several years that I put my life besides because of my ill and lonely loving dad and you remembered me the joy of life! 🙋🏻♂️😘🙏
@@falconeaterf15 nope ,other way around. Somebody has to be in the engine room, the helm can ask permission to start the engine ,but the chief calls the shots and can take the engines away from the helm
Thank you for a moment of distraction from a brutally emotionally profound day of sadness. (had to put our baby girl dog Gia down today by handing her to a stranger in the parking lot of the clinic)
Hey just wanted to say I've cruised around a lot of sailing vlogs and you guys have the best vibe for me :D I'm missing out on kiting in quarantine right now, do some for me!
Had to be hands down one of my favorite sessions on your video series. Great choice to answer questions. I was thinking about starting the process of learning more, and this has definately given me cause to think more about it. It's not always easy to step outside your comfort zone but it looks like it pays off in the end. Thanks again for this experience. Cheers from Turkey Point Ontario!!
I assume the like was saying YES you need to have a solid relationship. Healthy and non toxic. They clearly trust one another and you must enjoy spending alllll your time with each other.
Ben and Ashley for president!! You all are wonderful. Ends a real keeper and will be a great dad!!

I love the way that Ashley is all the time looking to Ben. The look of her eyes says enough.
Wonderful -- two great couples sharing the dream!

What a great experience, this was good

Great sailors, great ambassadors, great people! Thanks for sharing your cruising dreams with us
I was like... YEA! 27 minute video... yea.. noooo ... still not long enough!
Favorite TH-cam channel for sure. Stay safe
Agree - could have gone on for an hour and I'd be happy.

What a wonderful opportunity. Loved the recap session of their experience.

The Q&A with noobs was an excellent idea.

What a great video, great insight, congratulations to the couple on their cruising future
i love the bit where she says i didnt feel scared at all i was in such good hands, you look at your husband as if to say "wow she trusted us?" hahaha. you two make amazing videos
Great party chat. The 37 kph winds looked terrifying, but the waves looked OK, not enough to threaten swamping the boat.
Watching from the Philippines... what a wonderful life you had in the sea... amazing
Amazing.... I always wish one day I'll try sail on this kind of boat.. you two have a safe trip around the world..
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Very confidence inspiring. Everything I needed to hear. Well done Crew
Love you guys and congratulations on becoming parents soon love your video's 🇦🇺
Of all the sailing channels, you guys are my favorite. Watching from Montreal, thank you for the awesome work!
Great episode, great feedback and very inspiring indeed.

Watch you guys all the time - this was a great episode - maybe the best one.
Love your videos you have inspired so many people to start thinking about sailing!

Curious about where Patrick and Dana took their sailing course. Looking for something similar on the East coast of Canada.

I feel like these engines should have a secondary start button located in the engine bay, think that would be handy
No ,a secondary kill , starting is easy with a screw driver..a mechanical kill is worth its weight in gold.
Phil and Lyra that would just be one more thing to fail and cause problems in trouble.
Sounds great but there's probably a law or regulation against starting engine with nobody at the helm.
Safety first eh.
