- Artist Cyprien Gaillard presented his electronic opera Desniansky Raion at Tate Modern in 2009.
The triptych of films features some startling images, including battling gangs and a son et lumière building demolition. In this video Gaillard talks about the ideas behind his work and how composer and musician Koudlam provided the films extraordinary soundtrack.
This is haunting and very brilliant..I will tell you why for me....I have studied architecture...I live and was born in Chicago....I adore the ethereal musical piece...these videos and music were presented in an exhibit at THE MCA Chicago and, not surprisingly, it struck a very strong chord with me...I am always amazed at how some things just 'fit' and this did...the fighting , and videos of skyscrapers and music all , to me, represent something very fresh and new, yet symbolize some very ancient ethos...it is fun, fresh and exciting, yet , alarming. I feel as though I am somehow in these pieces, and it is very haunting and unforgettable....
super eloquent, seems like extremely promising young artist, hope he can keep developing his practice
Extremely good information, connections - short sequences of such material - together in one group. Great
@Commodore78 that is named "postmodernity". Using already existing materials doesn't mean he's not creating anything. That's not cut and paste, that's just another art technic. Which, by the way, it's very descriptive of the current conception of art and makes his work really consequent to today's moment.
man, i love art.
this is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!
I am glad there is a TH-cam.
So does the gangs fight take place in St Petersburg?
Anyone know where I can watch his short video 'The Smithsons'. I saw it in Manchester, and just need to watch it again!
I love the rumble between the soccer hooligans.
if you want to be a successful artist these days, you got be able to talk about yourself and your work very well... and he does both perfectly. No idea really if his work is any good because it seemed he was talking alot without saying much... but you never know...
Mdr! J' ai cru que Cyprien et Remi Gaillard avaient fait un truc hyper drôle ensemble. Je t' explique pas la déception!
anachronism as an answer to nostalgia?
woahhh man
