  • Why So Many Americans Move To Montana And Not North Dakota
Did you know that between 2021 and 2022, Montana saw a domestic net migration of over 16,000 people, resulting in a 1.5% change in population? In fact, when looking at percent population change, Montana is among the most popular states that people moved to in 2022. However, Montana’s neighbor to the east, North Dakota, saw a negative net migration between 2021 and 2022. That’s right, more people left this state than moved to it, resulting in a negative net migration of about 2,700 people and a percent population change of 0.2%. But why is this? After all, these states are geographically adjacent and have plenty of similarities.
Well, today on Across the Globe we’re going to be looking at why so many Americans move to Montana - but not to North Dakota.

Few misinformation points in this video. First of all, most of Yellowstone National Park is in Wyoming. Montana only has a sliver so people don't go to Montana to visit Yellowstone, they go to Wyoming.
Second, 60% of Montana has the same Great Plains lanscape like North Dakota, and the same weather. Populous cities like Billings and Great Falls are in the plains area. The scenic Rocky Mountains only make up around 30% of the state.
Third, 2:04 Badlands N.P. is in South Dakota.

SO much to comment on here:
    - Yellowstone is TECHNICALLY located in part in Montana - nearly all of Yellowstone Park is in Wyoming, not Montana
    - A large percentage of Montana shares similar/identical geography with North Dakota, so much of this list is essentially comparing western Montana to North Dakota and eastern Montana
    - the big oil push in the Bakken oil region really drove North Dakota --- people working in ND had to live in eastern Montana for lack of housing
    - do you really think the sky magically turns into 'BIG SKY' when you cross the border from North Dakota into Montana?
    - number six is comparing population density, saying that MT has lower population density than ND, which is correct... SO WHY IS THE TITLE OF THIS VIDEO ASKING WHY NORTH DAKOTA IS VASTLY EMPTIER THAN MONTANA? That is getting the issue EXACTLY BACKWARD? (ok, I suspect it is because this was generated by AI)

This is one of the most accurate, truthful assessments of North Dakota that I have ever seen. However some of your data is incorrect. North Dakota has much, much lower house prices than Montana. Just search real estate listings in several MT towns, versus several ND towns. $339,000 avg house price in ND???, nooo, maybe if this "house price" included 100acre-800acre farms. The sales tax in MT is 0. One of the facts that no one ever states, is that the people in ND are not friendly. When new people or new businesses move into ND, the local people are uncooperative in many ways. Then, the local people often turn their lack of cooperation onto each other. This is one of the main reasons why their is a net-loss of people in ND, it's hard to survive not just bc of the cold, but it's the unfriendly local people.

This assessment was an absolute joke. It was so inaccurate that it's entire premise of why ND is empty compared MT is a flat out lie if you look at population density. It was wrong about housing, plus the average income is higher in North dakota, the GDP is higher in North Dakota etc. when it comes to taking a vacation 9 times out of 10 you go to Montana, but when it comes to a more desirable place to live for your average person it's ND all the way, or Eastern MT.
Western MT is rightfully bitter about getting pushed out of their communities by mega rich city people. ND is still as friendly as it gets and if you get any other impression well it was either a one-off impression or you should probably take a look in the mirror.

I still remember this dialog from the movie, "hunt for red october"
I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me.... Simple dialog such as this reinforces the belief, that one curses an evil communist regime but don't hate the people who probably suffer within.
since then, I always wanted to visit Montana.

The people of North Dakota dislike outsiders. The outsiders go to North Dakota get their oil money and leave because the locals make it miserable for outsiders. It’s why most of North Dakota small towns are dying because the locals are leaving and the locals who stay run off outsiders who otherwise would stay their. North Dakota is a dying state. Especially the western side of the state.

The celebrities are not moving to the eastern half Montana, plus they have multiple homes elsewhere so they are not there for most of the winter for sure, get real.
I have lived in Fargo, ND for most of my life, it's has grown in the last few years with people who have been placed by the thousands, yet many of them seem to somehow disappear when it gets cold out, when government is handing out "free" money and paying the rent why not move around.

Quite a weird comparison! Neither state has enough people to even be relevant. For some reason, the founders decided to give equal representation to all states. So - North and South Dakota Wyoming and Montana have 8 senators representing a couple of million people. California has 2 senators representing 40MM+. Does that make sense???

    • @SunsetAssassin
      @SunsetAssassin 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

It makes perfect sense, each state and the people who live in them have the same representation in terms of senators sent to Washington D.C, but live in different parts of the country with their own regional issues that are handled by representatives.
This is why state representatives are based on the population of a state, and why California has 53 representatives throughout the state while Nevada only has 4.
No one in this country wants to live in a reality where everything is decided by 5 states and everyone else has to just do what they say.
It doesn't matter how populated California, Texas, Florida, New York, and Illinois are they shouldn't get to decide whatever everyone else is going to do.

ALL U.S. citizens would probably agree that CA is ruined, huge homeless problem, gangs, flash-mob looting, traffic, unaffordable housing. ID, WY, MT, ND don't have these problems. It's an easy choice to decide whether you want to live, vote, and be governed by CA ideology, or mid-west values.
