    Very true to the lay of the land (with modelers license) in north Texas. It is mostly flat so using trees to defuse level changes instead of tunnels is realistic. The yard at Cresson is known to cause very long traffic jams on Hwy 377 and for being dangerous. In the 20 years the area has seen steady growth adding to the traffic delays. The state has been “studying” the problem for many years.

      Sounds like they need a bridge to eliminate the grade crossing altogether.

    Great design again. It would be nice to do a follow up to see the ‘finished’ result of some of these designs.

      I'd also like to see finished layouts built from my designs, but model railroads take a lot longer to build than to design. I do have a couple of clients who are feeding me regular construction photos of their progress, although even in these cases it is likely to be years before I have sufficient raw material for a follow up video.

    Hi Peter, i liked the reference to Tipperary Junction,which i have Family who actually live in Tipperary itself and it’s a long way to Tipperary as the song goes... I always love your planning stages of your blogs, they are always inspirational to watch and the theories behind why you’ve done things the way you have, keep up the excellent blogging. Regards Jamie

    I really enjoy watching your track planning videos. Great work! For this particular plan I'm interested in what deck spacing you used between the lower level and the zero elevation of the staging deck.

    I look forward to seeing this very complex and wonderful design in the flesh. Although I think I've got the gist of how it will operate, I need to see trains running. Hope you build it!

    I love your designs and your knowledge of use of space. I wish I could afford you.

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How do you know you can't afford my services? Generally speaking, if you can afford to build the railroad, then the design fees are barely significant - typically around the cost of a few premium locomotives (and most model railroaders collect far more locomotives than they need).
      There are other ways to go about it even if a full custom layout design is out of your budget. I do a lot of critiques for plans that clients have drawn themselves. Send me a private message if you'd like to talk.

      @@mpeterll I have a Shed I am putting in. The shed will be 12 foot by 16 foot outside dimensions. It was all I could get and I'm very happy I got it. I want to put a multi deck N gauge, N scale layout in the space. I am adding a 75 amp circuit beaker power box to supply the building. And I found a HVAC unit for Air and heating for climate control, Lights, insulation, No windows, and I'm putting it all on a concrete pad so I have very little movement of the building. Since the layout will be hanging from the walls. Here is my email. Vman7757@comcast.net.

    Love the design. What is the biggest project you’ve worked on? Would you decline a project too big?

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The biggest and most complex layout design I have so far worked on is around 1200sf on three full decks with a four-track helix. Construction began on that layout quite recently and there will eventually be a series on that layout.
      I haven't yet declined a project on the grounds that it is "too big", although a couple of clients have proposed huge projects and then disappeared when I've given then a cost estimate.

    What’s a ballpark number for a design like this? If one was to establish a budget I’d be curious.

    Hi PETER,
    i'VE JUST BEEN LOOKING AT YOUR WEBSITE and found that two of the pics on the Gallery page are in fact inverted. They just happen to be of roughly the same bit of track and a building. I don't think its my computer to blame ! The gremlins are active again.

    I know I sound somewhat like a sycophant however is there anyone else in the world you would go to for the design of a layout! A great series Peter

    • @mpeterll
      @mpeterll  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would have no reason to go to another layout designer. There are a few others, each with their own unique style. Some of my clients have told me they looked at other designers before coming to me. I had one tell me I was too expensive, then come back and sign up after rejecting the other designers. I would always recommend that anyone in the market for any kind of custom work consider a few different suppliers and go with the one whose previous work matches what they hope to achieve.

    • @PeterTillman3

      that’s exactly right Peter. As you know, I did shop around. So looking forward to seeing the next iteration of my design and even more to seeing the final layout installed in my basement. Btw - the engineer’s report should be available this week. I am anxious to get going with the next phase of the project and lock you in for construction.
