I tried to reach you on Facebook. I am trying to find my great grandfathers old Gibson acoustic that he turned into an electric. My only reference is my grandmother and pictures, so it's kind of hard to find. I thought maybe I could come to you, it's probably expensive it would be cool to get it put it's just as good enough to see it. I was just wondering if you could even help finding it

    • @Wargasm644
      @Wargasm644 4 ปีที่แล้ว

By trade fo you mean “buy and sell”? Or literally trading? If I buy high dollar stuff, I use PayPal credit. Even if I can afford to pay for it outright. Most sites (reverb/eBay) have great buyers protection in place already. But I use PayPal credit as an additional layer of protection. If something goes south, PayPal will have your back because it’s their money you’re using. Lol. Then if everything is fine when I get the guitar, I pay off my PayPal in one lump some since I had the money anyways. And PayPal usually offers 12 months 0% interest, so it doesn’t cost you any extra. Once you’ve been burnt, you learn real quick how to outsmart the system. If I’m literally trading (guitar for guitar), I’ll try to make it an “in person” situation. Trading online sight unseen can be a risky proposition. All you can do is make sure the person you are bartering with has a solid reputation and good feedback. And you’ll have to make an arrangement that if either party is unhappy, you both return the item or come to some sort of compensation arrangement. If you’re trading with a big fish (like Trogly) you’ll be in a position to send your guitar to them first. Until you too become a big or bigger fish yourself. Good luck 👊🏻

Les Paul #1 - I'd call that a "Gold-top-burst" finish. The '34 burst needs a paint job on top. Especially when the wood on the back is so beautiful, it's kind of a bring down.

I dig Adam Jones and everything, but I am not a fan of The Silverburst Les Paul. Different strokes for different folks. It is my least favorite color and it's definitely not on my bucket list.
9:00 - The Gibson 235 was technically my first guitar. It was a regular tobacco burst with a red stained back. I put a German Iron Cross water slide decal on the front and posed in the mirror while playing my favorite records !!! Lemmy would have been proud of me !!! My dad got it for himself by trading an aluminum boat, motor and trailer for it. He gave it to me a couple years later, but I never learned how to play on this guitar. The guitar that I learned how to play on was a Gibson SG Special that I purchased used.

I just picked up an Epiphone Tommy Thayer white lightning Les Paul. Damn. I really enjoy playing this. The weight is great, a nice chunky slab of wood, the neck shape is killer, I love playing it. What LP model is it based on? What is the neck? 50's or 60's? I just want to know, because I might want to become an LP guy now, I can understand how people form a connection. The one I got is beat to hell and back, headstock repair, snapped off pickup switch, but I can not deny that I love it all the same. Anyone have info, let me know

To me that 34 burst only looks right on a BIG body like a L5 or Super 400. I’ve been looking at semis a lot lately. I really want something in between my Les Pauls and my 335. I really think my next real guitar purchase (I can’t resist the occasional cheaper used projects for fun) will end up being a es339 figured in the traditional cherry. It’s kind of strange but I don’t like new silverburst at all but aged they look like a gold burst that I like.

It plays really nice though and I have a friend who is going to be doing some upgrades for me a bit at the time. I find myself in need of a case for my new 'Sweetie'. Any ideas for a guy on a budget?

Check Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. Usually the people that have a guitar case to sell don’t have a guitar to put in it. So it’s easier to haggle on an item they have little use for. But eBay and reverb can have some good deals every now and then. Check Letgo and OfferUp too for decent local deals.

Personally I wouldnt upgrade that guitar unless you can't see yourself playing anything else. If you are going to pay on worthwhile upgrades, the parts are going to cost more than the guitar and if/when you come to sell it, the return wouldnt be that great. Honestly, the best option is to play the life out of that guitar and save your monies for something better. You dont have to spend the world on a better guitar and you can get some good second hand deals with a little research and information. Have fun 😁👍

But I had a brand (Gibson USA) new gold one laying around. Also, do you have the TP6 with the locking set screws that lock to the posts? I’ve got one, but I can only find them in chrome. Just curious?

@@Wargasm644 no I don’t. I assume it’s similar to the set screws on my Wilkinson roller bridge. I like the idea if hardware not slipping off and scratching during string/pickup changes. I have a few cheap import ones on my overseas guitars. Ibanez iceman, Washburn WI45, Fernandes APG 60, and a couple Chibsons I’ve found on Craigslist and the likes. White and black customs matched all blacked out hardware with emgs. I’m
A guitar junkie and mod all my personal guitars. Sometimes buy em cheap just to take em apart and learn or harvest parts or whatever. I usually get most or all the upgrade parts for free or at lest subsidized through all the guitars that pass my hands. The downside is I have about 37 guitars in my small house right now and another arriving Monday. And parts out the wazoo.

@@presmasterflash7555 you must be my doppelgänger 😂. I’m the same way. I customize all my guitars to the max. I put EMG’s in my Gibson Les Paul custom. That a brutal guitar. I’ve got some pretty killer customizations I’ve done. But yeah, I’m a part harvester too. I generally keep all my Gibson stuff in case I ever have to sell it to a beard stroker. They get all bent out of shape when you slap EMG’s in Gibson’s 😂. I’ve only got 1 tailpiece with the set screws. It’s a chrome Gibson USA. I’ve never seen another. All my other ones are non locking. But they definitely help when changing string. You gotta drag those little black fingers across your guitar to get em back on. And nitrocellulose is so damn soft you got to be careful. That’s why I’d like to find more locking style. Thanks for your reply.

@@Wargasm644 yes the dragging is a drag! My SG has EMGs the ones that can be “coil split” and the two “Customs” are actually Chinese knock offs. My Les Paul has a 500T bridge and P90 neck and my The Hawk has a 500T with a Gibson bridge mini humbucker in the neck which works very well with the 500. Both are hot, the mini might even be a ceramic which might be another reason they pair well. Also the minis have a rail under the cover (firebird style) so no phasing issues due to strings not aligning with pole pieces. The 496R is loaded in the bridge of an ‘82/83 Electra Workingman also with a mini in the neck (this one is the neck pup) I’ve had that guitar in several different setups since I got it for $80 in parts back in 1996. Good times good times.

Probably going to change the LP bridge to a 498 soon though. Never played one and I’d like to. Gotta find another Epiphone or something with one to harvest it. Right now I got my eyes on a guitar with a set of Mick Thompson EMTY Duncan’s that I can basically get for free.

Truly I like this channel but I'm just wondering, are there any similar channels to Trogly's that are not totally Gibson oriented? I really like all the tech talk and taking apart guitars but I just don't have any affinity with Gibson or Les Pauls. More Fenders and Gretsches!

Love all the Trogly’s videos but I was wondering, and this is a bit cheeky but, can anyone recommend another guitar channel similar to this? I ask as I am more of a Fender guy.

What's going to happen sooner than later is that 100% of the really well known for years vintage guitars dealers who have online stores/catalogs is that they're going to be forced to sell instruments a bank breaking reductions, this was already starting to happen before the virus with several of them doing bait & switches with instruments every few weeks & or months. They were putting up & taking down the same guitars in what became an obvious rotation, because for the last few years they just weren't selling. I won't go through all of the dealers who practiced this but there is one in Ohio who for decades has been one of the top & most respected vintage dealers in the US & the world, after awhile I noticed the same guitars were disappearing as if they had been sold & then, making a miraculous return to the fray. This was happening with all of the older larger more well respected vintage dealers, & for the past three years now even big box stores like Sweetwater can't even get the amount of stock they once were able to. Hell Sweetwater will promote "new" stock with all the fanfare of a royal coronation but with a "coming soon" disclaimer. Trouble is they very rarely if ever get them in & if they do, they must not get but maybe a handful because within a day or two they then have the disclaimer of "more on the way" Now I've been watching this with Sweetwater & other big box stores & have come to the conclusion that in many instances, they're probably not even expecting to get any. The whole fake price gouging of instruments be they new or vintage by attaching a guitar stars name to them & extolling its fake non-existent rarity along with so called features that are really nothing special is about to bite everyone of these dealers/stores in their collective asses, with this looming mandatory almost half a year lockdown possibly coming, this will be the straw that breaks the completely false vintage guitar market price markups, & the astronomical markups we have seen in new instruments within just this year alone. I cannot see shops both private owned & corporate owned who have weathered this storm so far, surviving through a mandatory almost half a year lockdown. What will happen with the people who bought these falsely overpriced Gibson Silver Bursts both new & vintage that is the latest rock star trend of price gouging, will be nothing less than financial suicide because they're either going to be stuck with them, or forced to sell them for the price of groceries & or personal necessities & or rent/mortgage in the coming months. I wish I could say something positive about all this but this is what happens, when people are part of a problem & not the solution by creating false markets through false means, & then karma steps in & uses mother nature along with corrupt politicians to bitch slap people back into reality. Believe me what's coming, ain't gonna be pretty.
