However, it is discouraged. Looks like the commenters are missing that the homeless dude brought his family for a second time. It's why it's discouraged because they will take advantage, then refer their friends. Restaurant I worked for in Clearwater had to stop giving out food because we were receiving so many "referrals" of other homeless people coming in and getting rowdy. Some would come in twice a day, second time after shift change. After we denied one person in the middle of lunch rush, he dropped his pants and peed right in front of the counter in front of everyone. I get it. They start thinking they're entitled to it and try to game the system, and just cause a ruckus, even threatening other customers if we didn't give them food. They also hit up other restaurants in the same area on the same day and they had to start turning them away, with the same issues. Anyone remember the issues with the panhandlers before they had to make laws to stop it? If you don't, you're not from Florida. Same people. However, bthey should have just given her a warning, verbal at first, then written, etc like any company policy. She said she would do it again. But she doesn't see what happens if you start to do it. I understand the point of the story, but I also understand the point of the manager. He said he was worried about loitering and bringing more homeless to the restaurant. And lo and behold the same homeless man returned with an entire family for more free food! So, the manager was justified in his concerns. Personally if I went to a restaurant and there was a bunch of homeless near the parking or entrance area I would consider going elsewhere. I am so tired of constantly being asked for my change, or a couple dollars. It has gotten to where you can't go anywhere without someone asking you for something for nothing!
If she goes back they'll wait a week or two... maybe a month and then fire her for something else. In their eyes she has brought a negative view on to the company. This is all damage control for them. Don't think in any way this company gives a damn about this woman or that man that was hungry. They're just trying to save face. I hope she gets another job offer from somewhere else. Her heart is right.

There’s no limit to how horrible IHOP treats their employees. It’s not the first time they fired an employee has been fired for doing the right thing. Won’t be the last.
I agree with the manager. She gave free food and the homeless came back AGAIN with a family for more free food. Sorry but business owners are going thru a very hard time with costs increasing !!!!
@@ernestclary6035 lets be clear. They are a restaurant in the business of making money serving customers with food. They are not a charity, nonprofit homeless shelter. They let her slide the first time she gave food away. The 2nd time homeless came back is when she got in trouble. Why dont homeless go to salvation army or some other place that gives away free food?
This lady is the face of the company employees who interact with the daily public should be recognized when they do wrong and most certainly recognized when they do right. This woman said she paid for the meal, the pancakes, whatever and even if the man returned with his family, sometimes doing the right thing does not have instant gratification and rewards. Sometimes the paying it forward part happens down the road, but it’s still makes a difference in the moment that doing the right thing is done. I’m glad that corporate reached out to her. I think getting input from your employees makes you a better employer and recognizing what’s been going on with people in this day and this woman has a good heart and there’s no way I could let an employee like that go. She didn’t give away free food. She paid out of her pocket. It is the holiday season. She was trying to help people in her community. I would not punish her for doing the right thing.. people do the right thing and it’s at the wrong time and it has legal consequences and that happens, but that’s not what happens in this situation. The manager should be fired and shamed in public. Human kindness should be rewarded as its so rare nowadays. Im glad she was taken care of as she is a shinning example of Humanity.
I understand her view, but the corporate is going to compensate her from the days she missed so honestly, I will come back if I need my job for my family
I hope she tells corporate shes willing to return but only to a new manager and buddy gets the can for being a complete grinch during the holidays‼️Let him see how it feels to lose his job and financial security at one of the most vulnerable tines of the year
IHOP sucks 😢 if there that stipid. There are a lot of people unable to eat and one or two meals isn’t going to kill a company. I’m glad there are still good people that care for their fellow man. Great job young lady
I can understand the company's policy. My grandmother owned a restaurant during the depression. She would feed homeless people that would walk in, but before long she was getting inundated with people looking for free food. She finally asked one homeless person how they found her. He said he found a sign down that someone put up at the railroad tracks telling everyone to come here.
People don't want to deal with that reality. They think all homeless are always kind, honest, respectful, and just a little down on their luck. Managers don't want them around because some are on drugs and some get aggressive and it's not good for the paying customers. Would you all like to be seated next to the guy on meth, the guy who shit himself or over in the corner?
Glad you did whats right. My wife got fired from an airport parking lot in our town for paying the bill of a couple who couldnt leave the airport for lack of funds. Crazy huh?
I would’ve done the same thing she did. My career was a cook, and I’ve come across plenty of homeless, hungry people, and I would give them food when I managed delis and bakeries. What the hell is this United States coming to when you can’t even feed the homeless, the one thing everybody has in common is we all need to eat, and not out of a trashcan, and we all bleed the same color. Whether we’re homeless or not, God loves each one of us at his own child. The Lord fed the homeless why the hell can’t we. I’m proud of this lady.
It is because they don't want them there, feeding them will only keep them around. Not to mention there is something with liability insurance and giving away food. Imagine getting sued by a non paying "customer" that you tried to help... It is our governments job to deal with homelessness, not ours. We pay enough taxes already, how about they start using it more wisely.
I did the same thing working at a cafeteria restaurant. They fired me. The owners brother shortly afterwords stole all the money in the safe. Kitchen caught fire after that.Karma caught up with them
IHOP Is right.. When you feed the wildlife they come back and bring others.. She shouldn't have been fired..She should have been told "Don't do it again "😢😢😢😢

if she paid for the food, that's one thing. if she served food and didn't charge for it, that's theft. not enough info.
There’s no limit to how horrible IHOP treats their employees. It’s not the first time they fired an employee has been fired for doing the right thing. Won’t be the last.
I would go back get the money for the time I was off and then tell them to kiss my ass and quit
fired for theft, not for feeding,, if she had just paid for the food using her employ discount we wouldn't even know she existed.
She used her own money, and it was pancakes, sweet four and sugar, no meat, no coffee, no juice, just a water. Maybe 50 cents worth of food🤯
It's against corporate rules to have a heart...😢
Corporations have no heart. If you don’t have a job, you’re a bum. If you work your butt off, they let you go.
I agree with the manager. She gave free food and the homeless came back AGAIN with a family for more free food. Sorry but business owners are going thru a very hard time with costs increasing !!!!
I would be more likely to support a business that helped homeless folks.
Bullshit, she bought the food with her money.
@@stephenfitzsimmons8837correct
watch again. She bought the food
Did she pay for that meal? Out her pocket or company’s dime
@@davinxi5926 She paid out of her own pocket
How dare you have compassion for a homeless person! SMH
Terrible rules of that company
It’s illegal for homeless to eat? Sounds like a good lawsuit
They spend all their money on drugs alcohol and cigarettes
I thank God for her and for Georgia on your side.
The manager should be fired. This woman is an Angel.
Sweet lady you did just exactly what God expected you to do. You did what the Bible tells us to do. You are a hero. When one door closes a big one will open.
She did a kind thing. Her manager was out of line. I am glad corporate reached out, but of course it was after the news was involved.
Her manager will be held responsible for the act of retaliation which is against the company's policy.
Giving to the poor is like giving to God.
Proverbs 19 :17
Please don’t bring God into this , I was trying so hard not to type this
The God I serve is not part-time. He's always with me.
The woman has a heart of gold. God bless her!!!
That😢 - Bad For - Business - . IHOP - .
This is absolutely aweful. Gett8ng fired for being kind, considerate, and caring. Yet it ok to get tips for serving paying customers.
“I need my job”. Offered job back “ I need to think about it”. Says all you need to know about her.
Ihop is doing the right thing ...she should go back to work. It was an overzealous mgr.who did all that nonsense.
They didn't want to get sued so they bribed her but she has to survive.. God bless her.😊
How the hell are you gonna fire someone for feeding the poor? 😮
I worked at IHOP as a dishwasher for 3 years
What an Incredible heart. Good job looking out for those who are hungry.
You all know that you can call their phone non stop until she's re hired.
What did you say their number was😂
Thirteen years is an awful long time to be a waitress
Pays better than 90% of other jobs in Florida.
Flexible hours and days. Easy to pick up shifts especially as a mother. Not to mention it ain't right to look down on anyone with a legal job. Hard working American . Ain't nothing wrong with that.
Sounds like she is good at her job.
Victoria Hughes thank you for what you did and to stand up for what is right! You know what that is IHOP's loss. Shame on IHOP!! Victoria there will be something better coming your way😊!
PS thanks for letting us know your story! And let us know what company not to support!😊
Charity from a pure heart..Jesus said ⚘️Bless this child, for its better to give then receive ☺️
Bless you 🙏🏽
From my mouth to God's ears... May this woman double her salary so she could continue to bless others. That manager who fired her should be fired instead. She would make a great manager after having 13 years of experience!
The homeless man took the situation too far. And to me was trying to use this woman. By bringing his family in.. it's not her responsibility but she was being nice. And look where is it got her
1:14 try listening next time… the reporter stated the “homeless man returned with a family, who brought him in for another meal.”
at no point did she say he brought his own family to the restaurant.
You are jumping to conclusions beacuse you are NOT paying attention to the news report, a family brought him in to buy him a meal..Your life must be a miserable useless existence
@dollingtonAvenue you didn't get my comment. When you get it get back with me.
@@ChristineRobinette-m2x 😒 right, because again, no one said the man brought _HIS_ family to iHOP but you. you typed something that wasn’t said probably because your earwax levels rival those of shrek’s… don’t get mad, get some q-tips. 😂😂
@@dollingtonAvenue . The company was against the situation why would they ask them to come back
Florida is the state of greed where, I've got mine, F everyone else is #1.
Profits over people.
I would return after the holidays as well 😊... I'm glad she got her job back... BLESSINGS to her
Only my opinion BUT
I believe the wrong person was fired.
IHOP should be ashamed of themselves! Where is the humanity in caring for your fellow man
I need my job, I want my job! Ok, you have it back.... I need some time to figure it out if I want to go back... LOL
Glad you did whats right. My wife got fired from an airport parking lot in our town for paying the bill of a couple who couldnt leave the airport for lack of funds. Crazy huh?
But if he was an issue wouldn't they warn all the staff not to serve him or let him in like usually they tell everyone
If she paid for it out of her own pocket then they're very wrong to fire her. They could just tell her verbally they do not want her doing that.
She paid for the meal - these people you refer to as them are human beings and what does insurance have to do with giving someone a meal?
Really the government gave all our tax paying dollars to feed illegals!
When are people going to learn that no good deed goes unpunished?
I have mixed feelings about this because the manager has his reasons and the server did the right thing.
She is a hero. Should be rewarded not fire.
Let boycot IHOP
Im not going there never again
Screw IHOP
I don’t think I’ll ever eat at IHOP again, what a bunch of bs
I did the same thing working at a cafeteria restaurant. They fired me. The owners brother shortly afterwords stole all the money in the safe. Kitchen caught fire after that.Karma caught up with them
This girl will definitely receive her blessings ❤❤❤❤
Or she will eat them 😂
I live in the area. Just another place to add to my not to visit list.
That’s why we don’t go to IHOP anymore . And for other reasons as well
They just didn't want her to hire an employment attorney.
IHOP Is right.. When you feed the wildlife they come back and bring others.. She shouldn't have been fired..She should have been told "Don't do it again "😢😢😢😢
She needs to not return to IHOP. The way they acted obviously shows they have no respect for her. The manager is a piece of crap and needs to be let go.
