Update: Cinnamon died a year and a half after her rescue in her forever home, at the age of 18 and a half. She survived against all prognosis and was the charity's most beloved cat.
I had been been filming her since the days she was rescued. For months I thought it would just be a sad requiem - she didn't really seem to be making any progress, at least not towards humans, and imagining her dying angry, confused and among people she hated was just too sad. But she wanted more from life, and she got it. She was too old, and too fragile to be put for adoption, so sfter a few monhs at teh cattery, she moved in with Marianna, Karie's sister, and spent the rest of her life there. It took her six months to surrender, but once she did, she never took a step backwards.
Cinnamon (Canela) was rescued in Athens, Greece by SCARS

Many people prefer tiny hairy kittens, but.....a wonderful soul like yours prefered to help an old and abondonned cat. May Allah (God) Bless you. My cat had cancer, his final days were harsh, not only just for him, but for me too. he lost appetite, bleeding, lost so much weight....but I never had the thought of casting him aside. his death was a sad event; but I am happy I spent wonderful days with him ( 13 years), and I never gave up on him.

I visited a cat shelter 10 minutes after my 13 year old cat went to the vet for the last time. I just needed to see healthy happy cats as he had been so sick for so long. I immediately locked eyes with a 13 year old tortie who's owners decided she needed to be replaced so they could have new dogs. She's now 16 and happy and healthy living with me....and there is a cold place in hell for people who kick their elderly cats to the curb.

      ". . . . who's owners decided she needed to be replaced so they could have new . . . . (whatever)"
These are the sort a people one must watch very painstakingly when they are around. People like that are pure evil (not in a religious sense) because they would sell absolutely anything and anyone out if it benefits them. Those are the kinds of people they'd stab their own mother in the back even if she'd be the best mother in the world. People like that are despicable and lesser than scum. Their original family dumped the sisters after 14 years but now they are both mine. Enjoy your new fur baby. 😻

My friend happily informed me that she had finally managed to dump her new husbands' 14 year cat off at an animal shelter. I was horrified. I couldn't stop thinking about how abandoned & unlikely to be adopted the cat was and would likely die in the shelter, alone and afraid. The next day, I went to the shelter and Wendell was still there (after six weeks and his time was running out). My friend, when she had dropped him off, had noted numerous behaviour issues (false) with Wendell, making him even less likely to be adopted. I adopted him. I thought I would make his last few months loving. Hands down, one of the best decisions I ever made. Rehomed with me, Wendell's personality was playful and loving with a big dose of clown. Wendell lived another 8 (yes, EIGHT) happy years with me and every day, he made me smile. My point is, when you agree to take on a pet, it should be for LIFE .... throwing away a pet due to age is awful. However, getting rid of a human friend who gleefully dumps animals, is another great decision.

    • @Dermacrosis
      @Dermacrosis 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1723

She didn't take on the pet he did, and if he doesn't have the balls to stand up and fight for keeping his pet or make sure he doesn't move in with, let alone marry, someone who does not like cats, then he is the one to blame not her.
If any of my friends let alone a partner showed such a dislike to cats they would be gone faster than you could count.

His picture was in my local paper up for adoption from the Humane society a couple yrs earlier. I had recognized him from that and found out his name Sebastian. He was someone else cat before the neighbors. He ended up yrs later diabetic. Gave him shots twice a day for 3 yrs. Out of 20 cats he became one of my 7 favorites. He passed in 2019 my mother whom I lived with and cared for passed 6 days after Sebastian. A very upsetting week. I wear his collier on my wrist today.

Peggy Hill When my mom died I took her cat 🐈 into my home she
went deaf after mom died and was an elderly cat. She spent 17 months
with us before she had a tumour in her mouth took her. I would have
done anything for her. I had 3 cats of my own - they tolerated each
other. When the vet told me there wasn't anything they could do due
to her age i held her until she died. I cried my eyes out but I knew that
I had looked after her and my mom would have been pleased. All

Wendy Holland.....Oh, your story is sweet! You are absolutely a daughter to be proud of! Animals are smarter than we give them credit for. Think about this: by taking in your Mom's kitty & the kitty WANTED to stay with you (cause let's face it, cats do what they want to do), you & the cat were together because of your Mom. Therefore, your Mom was still around because you & the cat loves your Mom. Your common bond was your Mom. That in my opinion can be another example of circle of life. I know it's hard, you lost your Mom & kitty. (I lost my Mom & a special cat too.) Take heart in knowing you did right by them both. Thank you for sharing!

do for her. She was in her 20s which is a good age for a cat 🐈I
wasn't there when my mom died so I needed to be there for her best
friend. Despite being deaf I told her that her best friend was waiting
for her she fought and in the end she passed. I was in tears but I
knew that mom and cat were together again. I am a big softie as
animals ( especially cats ) and have 3 cats 🐈🐈🐈 the eldest will
be 18 this year and I watched her being born - I hope that she will
be with me for afew more years. My other 2 are 14 this year had them
since they were 10 weeks old. I have always looked after my babies
and they give me lots of affection without expecting much back but
they do get more back. My mom would be proud of me as she knew
I love cats and other animals.

Wendy Holland......I , like you are more of a cat person. But I do like all animals. Your Mom knows how you feel, I'm sure. Sounds like the thing your Mom may have wanted the most is exactly what happened. You & her cat to be with one another. Don't feel bad about not being there cause I'm a believer that things happen the way they're supposed too. I have 2 grown children and I'm not so sure I would want then there when I pass, only because it hurts too bad. You seem like a fine young lady. Whenever you miss her & her kitty, go to a quiet place, take out her picture & talk to her. Or, just sit down & write her a letter. Thank you again.

4 years ago we took Molly home. My husband was afraid of cats and we had many discussions about cats. I've always had a cat, my parents were both cat people. One day I spotted Molly on a online site and I felt her loneliness. I asked my husband again to consider getting a cat. She was old and those who owned her had allergies, they said. It turned out later that it was not true, they got a new young cat instead. Molly was too old and expensive due to diseases. My husband said yes this time. I had just been diagnosed with lupus and was very much alone because of it. Molly was picked up. It turned out that she was abused and she was terrified of people. She did not dare look us in the eye for two years. She did not want anything to do with us because of fear. I spent at least 5 hours with her daily and slowly we managed to build trust, my husband got to know her and they became good friends after she realized that we were not dangerous. Molly does not want to sit on our lap or be carried, but she is mostly lying on a blanket by my side. Her time is running out, but when that time comes she will have her last rest under the rose tree where she loves to lie in the summer. She has gout and is not doing well, but my husband has built her own stool so she can get where she wants. I love the little red body and we will give her what she wants for the rest of her life, she means so much to us. I will only adopt older cats who have had a difficult life. I think that is my task in life.

She was initially owned by elderly couple and was left in the care of their relatives after they passed away. Unfortunately the relatives aren't really into cats/pets, I believe that's why Cinnamon would be chased by sticks, maybe she just wanted someone to pet her, though she trusted them it all soon fell apart.

After a full year of hiding in the closet I think he finally realized my wife wasn't coming back. He came out of the closeg meowing at me wanting me to pet him. He had a good run with me for another 6+ years. Age finally caught up with him. I like to think my wife was very happy to see him when he left this world.

I can GUARANTEE you that they're together, and very happy. When my very old cat, Tiggs, passed away, i was with her in my bedroom. There was a full moon that night and she had been ill, and I knew for several days that she was going to pass. That night, around 2:10 a.m., she had been lying on the carpet and wouldn't let me move her. Suddenly she gave a little cough and lifted her left paw to the window through which the light of the full moon was pouring. In less than a split second she was gone. At that exact moment there appeared at my window the silhouette of a woman, just an outline, made entirely of different colored lights. It was that silhouette toward whom Tiggs had lifted her paw. She had the most peaceful and happy look on her face. I loved her so profoundly and haven't cried much. I buried her in the morning, in a nice woods. She was my second cat to pass but I hadn't had the chance to be with my first one at his death. Therefore, when I saw the figure of the illuminated woman reaching out for Tiggs, I felt at peace--and of course, astonished at what I'd seen. But I can also tell you I have never seen anything so beautiful as the woman illuminated by lights. I hope to see her again at my own passing.

Older cats are some of the BEST cats. They've already matured so no surprises. They are usually calm, for the most part. They still play!!!!! They are content, and grateful for all they have, too.
We adopted 'Pinky' at age 10 or 11. He was homeless and had always lived outdoors. We made a house cat out of him, with added priviliges that he could still go outside - but he always knew his home and returned every late afternoon to his family. He not only was beloved of my son and me, but the other cats in our family as well. He was uncommonly gentle. Pinky raised our 4-week old kitten, Gawain!!!. I always called him 'uncle Pinky'. Gawain loved him very much. Pinky passed at about the age of 22. We didn't have him his whole life, but we gratefully had him half his life. We adopted a senior cat (Harry) from our local shelter who, like Cinnamon, had loving owners. Both passed away, and a relative moved in and was the opposite of loving. Soon, they put him outside and never let him back inside. A neighbor who knew Harry brought him to the shelter dirty and confused. We stopped in to make a donation and saw him. They said he was sweet but needed time to come around. His nickname became Dirty Harry at the shelter, and my wife said we had to adopt him and make his senior years the best possible. He was initially timid but got along with our two other cats. Within weeks, he was beautiful, and we nicknamed him Harry Potter. Every night when we went to bed, he would come into our room and sleep on a pillow on my chest. He lived with us for over three years before passing away. That was many years ago, and I still sleep with a pillow on my chest every night.

Elderly cats are amazing by the way. They are so grateful to be adopted, to be loved again, to have a warm and comfy home again. They also often love to just sit with their human resting their paw on their hand. I don't know why elderly rescue cats do that but it's lovely. It seems to mean "please don't go away".

When my wife left me she turned her back on her cat, whom I was more than happy to give a home to. People would ask me why I kept the cat, but she had never done anything to me and I promised her that no matter where I went I would take care of her. I moved a few times over the years and as I drove to my new home she rode next to me, either sleeping or watching the world go by, never complaining, never misbehaving. Then just before Christmas 2020 I watched her health rapidly deteriorate and I knew she was at the end of her epic journey and so with a heavy heart I said goodbye. She was a few months short of her eighteenth birthday but for over half of her life she had lived with me and she had been my cat. I still miss her, especially as her nineteenth birthday would be March 7, 2022 (I write this on March 5, 2022), but I am happy that I kept my promise to her, that I gave her home and I took care of her for the rest of her life. I could never have imagined abandoning her and I will never forgive my ex for turning her back on that cat, but then she did the same to me so in the end I am not surprised.

@jsp Believe me or not, your ex - she did the cat a favour, you made her so happy and loved, and she loved you in return, I'm sorry for your loss - she was a great age for a cat, you also had a lucky escape from your ex, I don't know you or your ex but she sounds like a heartless fool, both you and the cat deserved better and so much more - and you got it. 😻

Back in the 80s, I was the construction supervisor on rehabilitation of an old apt. Building.
As my men were removing the heat ducts and I heard a mornfull cry.
I stopped the men form tearing out the ducts...
Up on a ladder, deep inside the duct, I saw her.
She was skinny, filthy and had been hit in her face, blood dried all over her face.
All I said was " come here sweetie" and
The cat jumped in my arms, I talked softly to her. " it's ok now sweetie" she held on to me, wouldn't even look around.
I took her to the NY Animal hospital and besides being hungry, and lost both fangs on her right side she would be fine.
( If I ever found the moron that kicked her....)
I had her for 18 years, and she passed on in my lap.
    Her name was Cleo...
    I still miss her.
Some day, we will find each other again.

Wendy Holland: I've been doing animal cruelty cases for over 20 years, and the most abused animals are cats. It's an under-reported CRIME because "it's only a cat". You hear about dog fighting, but no one tells you about the cats and kittens used for dog bait.
I've since retired - couldn't take any more horrors.

    • @wendyholland8105

I hate it when people say ' its only a cat'. That's the wrong
attitude to take. I love animals and what people do to them
is sick. Animals and humans are living and breathing so in
my opinion should be treated with respect and if you
can't do that and then you are a sick, depraved person. I
admire people like yourself who must see horrific cases of
animal abuse and you do your best to prevent it. You hear
about it in the news but to confront it in your line of work on
a daily basis must be terrible. I tell people I watch it because
I can't believe that someone can do this to such a adorable
creature and think its ok because 'its only a cat'.

Wendy Holland: Thanks for your good comment. This was not to say I don't love dogs, or I wouldn't fight for them - I have. The 180 degree attitude between dogs and cats left me speechless and heartbroken. That attitude went from law enforcement to shelter workers, even some vets. Since I love all animals, but have a soft spot for cats, I just couldn't do it anymore. ALL animals deserve respect and help, and love. So I just continue to rescue - mostly cats, but any animal

Sadly, back from the ages of 3 to 6, I had a very bad fear of dogs.
Partly because of how excitable they were, and partly because of how small I was compared to the ones I grew up around. It was so bad that every time we came to my grandma's house, I'd scream until I was put on the counter, away from the dogs.
At age 5, we adopted a dog who came from neglectful owners. Her name was Chyna, and she was gorgeous. Heterochromia, soft brown, white, and black fur. She was as big as the other dogs from my grandma's house, so I was still very weary of her.
Like dogs do, she'd try to play with me and interact with me. But being scared, I'd always react by running away, screaming, crying, or pushing & hitting her on the nose. I thought if I scared her enough, I wouldn't have to be scared because she'd leave me alone. However, she didn't.
She persisted. She continued to try and interact with me, and show me the unconditional love dogs do. She just tried a different approach. She tried sitting a little ways away from me, and looking at me. Or scooting close, and putting her head in my lap. She tried being calm & gentle, when she realized I was afraid of her.
      And soon, we became inseparable.
She completely squashed that fear of dogs, and became my best friend in the universe.
Sometimes, because of some other stuff (unrelated) I dealt with, I felt alone. But when she was around, I felt like someone cared about and saw me. She always comforted me when I was sad, or angry, and she kept me company when I was scared.
10 years later, she sadly passed away March 31st. I'm 16. We spent 10 years together. And to this day, she is my very best friend, and I still feel awful for the way I treated her when I was a scared kid. I never meant to hurt her, just to scare her so that she wouldn't scare me. But there's absolutely no excuse for that. I've not raised my hand to an animal since.
I'll never EVER forget her. I hope she knew how special she was to me, and how much I loved her.

Many people just see animals as less than
Because they are just 'beasts', it's not like they are human, you don't have to care, they're dumb and have no feelings. Many also think it's fun to oppress them because 'what are they gonna do?'
And if you speak they just laugh in your face anyway.

He was a stray as a kitten and came running to be with me from an ally beside my house. The last 2 year's of his life he couldn't eat any cat food, so I started giving him shredded chicken with milk twice a day and I would warm it up. That kept him alive the last 2 years of his life. That was 7 years ago and I miss him everyday! 😻😽🧡💝🌈🐈💐🎉🌻

Same here with the cat I adopted a few years ago. She was at the shelter, in a cage by herself, hiding under a brown paper bad. When I inquired about the cat, Olivia, the people from the shelter said I didn't want Olivia because she has a crooked paw (from a fight that never set right) and she had Feline HIV. Apparently she was set to be put asleep Well, that's all it took. I wanted Olivia before I knew all about her, and I just wanted her MORE after hearing her story! I was appalled that the staff there weren't more excited I showed interest than in leading me to a more "suitable cat." Olivia had been abandoned to top things off and had major trust issues. It took months of love and consistency until Olivia just decided there was no turning back and dropped her guard and allowed her vulnerable heart to love again. Well, it's been over 6 years later, I have not had one whit of a health issue with her, and she is my baby girl that always puts a tear in my eye when I just think of what hell her life was before we met. I feel so blessed to have her in my life.!

Yes, this story breaks my heart. My last cat who died at 17, was abandoned in downtown Atlanta, Ga., and she was six months old. The vet who found her said he knew she was abandoned, because she came right to him, was so desperate for love, care and food. Feral's and strays won't do that. We had her for 17 wonderful years. She too was in such a sad state when we got her. But as with this precious Cinnamon, after two years of love and spoiling, she became the most loving girl. The last week of her life she did something she'd never done before: every morning when my son took his shower, she'd go right in with him, sit there and watch him, IN the water! She was saying "Goodbye." And with me, she became glued to my side 24/7, more so than usual. I was with her to the very end when she was put to sleep from cancer. This was in 2002. To this day I miss her. Interestingly, as the anniversary of her death nears, without realizing it I grieve...until I remember why I feel that way at that particular time.

Mine are 9 and 14. I picked them up from the shelter a year ago. The 9 YO girl is fairly sedentary except when the laser man comes to play. The 14 YO boy is still a boy at heart. He pesters you, sleeps, cleans out both food bowls and every now and then he shows off the Mazda mode....zoom...zoom. He likes to sit near me. Working from home, he comes and plops in the bathroom of the room I work from...sleeping...but with one eye open in case I head toward the kitchen. About the only thing that panics him is being in a crate and riding in the car. He needs another vet visit, but with me having to move in December, I am hesitant to put him through the terror without real need. Maybe next month. I'd like to get him used to riding in the car, but I am not sure how.

When I was ready to adopt, I didn't even look at kittens -- well, I looked at them and petted them, lol, but I knew I wanted to give an abandoned cat a good home. So many people want kittens, and adult cats are often overlooked, I think. But I think this is changing, thanks to information like this video.

Today is Memorial Day 2023. A day to give thanks who lost their lives during the wars.
Today also for me, I'm blessed to have found this video. For many years, I've watch THE ORPHANED PET, and contributed thru Patreon, but my life took a hard turn and lost my reason 4 being.
My contact with Orphaned pet and listening to the voice of this amazing young lady, was soothing snd brought a peaceful moment so many times as her heart ❤narrated her stories of loving giving hervgesrt and life to these unwanted loving creatures.
The story of Cinnamon is a true blessing to God's creations and how we should all be.
This was posted 6 years ago and I'm sure Cinnamon is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge to welcome all.
This morning I cry many tears for Cinnamon and all that suffer bc I know and feel the compassion of this wonderful woman. I would love to meet her one day b4 I pass.
I now can begin my need and desire to join Patreon again after losing myself in all of life's struggles.
I'm thankful 🙏 for many things at 75.
The soldiers who fought and died so we could be free, the people who love and save the unwanted, discarded, throwaway pets in a manner that cannot be forgiven.
Her voice is of an Angel 😇 because God created her in his own image of love and kindness. She feels the pain of the unwanted.
On March 5, 2023 my Mikeeee died at 24. He was a stray who lived with me for one third of my life 😢.
I look forward to one day meeting all that have passed bc living here on earth 🌎 is too painful and filled with stress. I eishni was a millionaire to make a difference in their lives, but I'm not. I thought I was created to make changes, and that failed. I'm ready. ❤

The Orphan Pet I am typing this through tears!! Cinnamon was afraid, not hateful!! What if she allowed to let someone in, only to gave them dissappear like the parents she had for 17 years??
part of the reason I am crying is for my sweet Isabella. Isabella just turned 18 years old on August 3rd! She and her sister, Samantha were born to a neighbors cat, Chynna. Chynna started to show up when I would pull in my driveway at around 3 AM each day from work. She was clearly pregnant. I had no idea where she came from and she did not allow me to pet her. But I would feed her. She was almost starving because whoever owned her didn't increase her foid when she got pregnant. I started to feed her Kitten Chow for the extra nutrients she needed.
On the 3 AM morning of August 3, 1998, Chynna came up the driveway. I could see her belly had dropped and knew she would give birth soon. I sat with her while she ate. I told her that it was my birthday that day and I would be honored for her babies to be born on that day! I noticed she didn't finish the bowl and could see her sides contracting. She took off running.
When I left for work that day around 4 PM, Chynna ran up the driveway! She had had her babies, but I didn't know where. When the babies were 6 days old, another neighbor called me in a panic. He had come out of his house and down the steps, at tbe last second on the last step, he had to jump over 2 tiny kittens. He had almost stepped on them!
One look at them and I knew-- they were Chynna's. (I found out her name and owner 2 days before her babies came!)
The one was a black & white tuxedo cat (Samantha) and the other one was a calico ( Isabella) and looked almost exactly like her mom! I told him the had crawled out from under his house and we put them back, thinking Chynna had just gone for food. A few hours and he almost stepped on them again! I was home from work that day, planning on yard work. When I turned my head to leave the area, I looked to my left for traffic! My heart sunk!! I saw a small patch of calico colored fur-- I turned toward the fur. It was Chynna!!
I left for Walmart, but instead of flowers, I got baby shampoo, baby kitten bottles, Kitten replacement powder, cotton balls, and goat's milk.
The kittens were now in a cooler (no lid or ice!!) and I picked them up. Both were covered in fleas, sand caked over their little eye lids and their tiny ears. We bathed both with baby shampoo to not only kill fleas but to get all the sand off them. I mixed theit first bottles. Both were so hungry, they drank quickly.
I took them home while he buried Chynna's body.
I got a box and put towels in it. A warm place, a full belly and they quickly went to sleep. The next few weeks of feedimgs, wiping, and bottles went quickly. I took them into work with me and everyone took turns feeding so no meals were missed.
I had planned to foster only but by 8 weeks, they were now family!
Samantha sadly passed away on 12/30/2010. She was in the living room, playing with Christmas toys when I heard a thud. I found her, gasping for air on the floor. I rushed her to the vet but there was little he could do-- she passed away in my arms!
Little Isabella is lying beside me right now. She is happy and healthy for 18!! I cannot imagine her suddenly losing me. Even Max who turns 8 on April 17 and Missy who will be 7 on May 4--they would be confused without me!
They also have an aquatic brother, Oliver the tturtle. And 2 Beta fish brothers, TJ & PJ!!
We all hole Cinnamon continues to live on! Her former owners are smily down at you for not just keeping their girl safe & fed, but for giving her time to come around and want to feel the touch of a human hand that doesn't hurt her!
Shame on that owners family, who would dishonor their memories by treating their precious Cinnamon so badly!! Hitting a 17 year old cat, who knew only love until then, with sticks.... Just appalling!
Live on Cinnamon! !! You are safe and surrounded by love!! Plus you have a window that allows the sun in to warm your older bones!! My Isabella says a big kitty hello to a fellow senior kitty!
