I think there's a reason why Britain's Got Talent was like that. They were basically trying to resuscitate an old format that had basically gone out of fashion. New Faces here was really the last breath of it. The producers of Britain's Got Talent knew that if they just did it in the same style as New Faces then the show would die just like New Faces did. So they tried to introduce other things to try and "hook" the audience. You're right, it is awful and very contrived. But so was New Faces if we're honest. Having people like Nina Mishkoff in as the pantomime baddie was just as contrived.
She a previous casualty of her times, abused young ,a great role model for all young girls who are recovering, this great lady made it known in bios, strengthen victims of future, ur drawn to people who have become stronger over hardships and grief (of any kinf) see how she glows more, more emotional because it eventually became an assest. God bless her family, we all know where she is now!
I was surprised to see that the original Central globe logo was still being used in 1986. I thought it had been replaced by the "flying Disprin" by then.
The BBC did an article in 2011 about the 1986 finalists. It seems that the show was a curse for many of them. It went to their heads but was very fleeting, and resulted in poverty and their marriages breaking up. Cadman of Walker and Cadman talked about how they had a couple of years of success after this but their act suddenly went very much out of fashion by 1989 and everything dried up. He ended up sleeping rough. A fellow 1986 finalist, Billy Pearce, also talked about having a couple of years of success after this but losing all his money on bad investments. The person who seems to have done best from the 1986 finalists was the violinist Gary Lovini who was just 17 at the time. He's carved out a career performing on cruise ships and has made a reasonable amount of money. He's one of the few whose first marriage didn't break down.

I remember it well as the drummer with Maxmillion. We were awful terrible song but chosen by producer no say in the matter. Was all recorded live was crapping myself and played the song much to fast as Nina noticed to her credit 😀😀😂

The show originally made Marti a star and then she made that show exciting. Sadly, sadly missed.

Saw Marti in 1988 getting out of her blue rolls Royce in Oxford, wish I'd spoken to her, too shy. Loved new faces, her exchanges with nina.
