    It's amazing they can catch something as quick as a salmon.
    I guess even bears get fat eating fast food.

    If there was a way to medically induce this type of hibernation in people! Imagine losing 1/3 of your body weight over 5 month period. You can still be somewhat active during the day but you don't feel hunger and you don't need to drink. Chores done and forget the diet because you're not hungry!

      Unfortunately seems like we've made more progress towards the other part of the bear cycle...the part about eating super high calorie foods and still not feeling full.

    • @suchnothing
      @suchnothing ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You probably couldn't get a lot of chores done. When they say "active" they mean rolling around, eyes open, etc. But they aren't going around doing stuff. They're just laying around in their den.

    • @bsnufkin929
      @bsnufkin929 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@suchnothing well if I'm not active then not a lot of chores need doing. I don't mind lying in my den and watching movies if it means I lose weight. As long as I can get up and water my house plants it's a win win! :D
      On the other hand, you have to be active to maintain your muscles...how do bears do this?

      Bears don’t technically hibernate. They go into a state known as torpor and bear torpor has been studied as a potential way to send humans into deep space. Another fascinating fact about torpor is a bear’s wounds will heal while it is in torpor.

    • @Mr_MikeMikeMike
      @Mr_MikeMikeMike ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Each fish is probably at least few pounds each. Let's say each fish has 2.2 lbs of "meat" after subtracting the weight of bones and stuff like that. Converting to grams, 2.2 lbs is 1 kg which is 1000g. I don't know actual values but maybe 800g of the meat is protein and 200g are fat. Protein is 4 calories per gram and fat is 9 calories per gram. That gives you 800g x 4 calories/gram + 200g x 9 cal/gram = 5000 calories.

      Technically, Kodiak and Grizzlies are subspecies of Brown bears. The Brown bears of Katmai are the largest bears in the world besides polar bears. Standing height of over seven feet, and 1200 to 1400 lbs. by the end of the salmon season. They believe 747 was close to 1400 when he won last year.

      It's not. Every mainstream media outlet is turning into the same kind of random collection of content because they overbuilt and overhired during the era of easy money. Now they are having to resort to layoffs, cutbacks, and content diversification to also make up for declining ad revenue (whole mess of issues with that). Seeing the same thing with Business Insider (which is now just "Insider") and Fortune.
