Thank you for your honesty Ashley. I stopped watching Tyler Perry movies because the storylines were too repetitive and I felt that the characters especially Black women lacked variety. I agree with you about loving the have and the have nots. The first 3-4 seasons were great for whatever reasons the last couple of seasons was so crazy istop watching. That show should still be on if he had some writers to tell better stories for each character
Love me some Tyler Perry but the writing is lacking. I honestly haven’t watched any of his tv shows for more than 1 episode. I want to support but the writing and production FOR ME isn’t it and that’s okay! I watched Mea Culpa because I wanted to support Kelly but the writing was lack luster in that as well! There are sooo many amazing black writers and producers. I wish he would give them a chance.
For a black producer to be at the caliber he is at and the way he churns out sloppy writing is truly an insult to everyone’s intelligent. He uses every stereotype possible to put in his shows and recent movies. Sistas now has cartel plots and criminal storylines. Sistas which is suppose to be like a modern day Girlfriends about the women love lives. That’s just one example of how garbage his writing is. His best shows were The Haves and the Have Nots and Too Close to Home when it comes to drama. His earlier films were good as well. His content now is just absolute garbage. And him insulting his audience about their annoyance about how he portrays black women and men is low down.

It ended because he was ending his contract with OWN, Oprah and Tyler had “creative differences” part of the reason he ended up buying 50% of BET+ and moving his shows over there
Tyler doesn't even deserve my hate watch at this point. I knew when I saw the promo for Divorce in the Black that it was gon be that same damn formula. Good well known black actors with over the top shock value black drama with incomplete storylines. No thank you. And calling us "High brow negros" when alot of us have supported since your early work? Naw, he lost a viewer in me. What a selfish narcissist
He’s doing an origin story on the character Madea “Mabel” I think it’s suppose to be a show. But he’s bringing in other writers so hopefully that should be interesting. I hope he does bring in other writers because I noticed with his shows like “The haves and the Haves Nots”,”Sistas”, “The Oval”. He has this real long ass dialogue between characters. They just go back and forth. I’m like can we get to the point.
Yep! That's why I can't get into any of his scripted series. The pacing of the dialogue is weird/slow compared to normal drama series. And alot of times the camera angle will stay in one spot for too long without changing.
A big issue is that Tyler is putting out content as if he has little to no resources. He OWNS a multi-million dollar studio and still continues to put out sub-par projects. Spike Lee's grievance with Tyler has nothing to do with jealousy, as some might think. It's his apathy toward the art of filmmaking. Tyler brags about filming entire movies in 5 days, like that's a flex, when it shows in the finished product that it really isn't, boom mics and all. Spike Lee has always made a point to hire as many black people to work behind the camera on his film projects so that they could get their union cards in order to work on other bigger projects, and pay it forward for other black creatives so they may do the same. Apparently, Tyler refuses to pay union wages and, therefor cannot get behind-the-scenes union talent , which includes writers. Which means those creatives miss what could be life changing opportunities. And that's a shame.
Hello, I am in my mid-40s and yes I remember when Tyler Perry plays were on VHS and later on DVDs ad Blu-Ray his movies. I agree with you as a fan you should be able to say how you feel and you are explaining it good. In our neighborhoods this is what we are use to but many women never get out these situations. I hope Tyler Perry doesn't have to go so far from what people are use too. Change is so far away from his main audience.
All we ask of Tyler is quality of work. Don’t just throw anything at us and expect it to go unchecked. He puts us in the same situations, cheap sets, bad presentations.
I agree. Why did I get married? 3 should happen. I would love to see more thrillers and yes better wigs. I thought he had a Netflix deal hmm. I want to see Marriage in the black but I can't subscribe to another app right now. Tyler Perry is talented but some adjustments can be made. I'm a fan and I will continue to support.
Honestly, if everyone stops watching, I bet he’ll make some damn changes. 🤷🏽♀️ he’s too arrogant, he laughs about the criticism cuz as long as he gets the views, he gets paid. He’s not gonna change cuz why should he? Ppl accepts his bare minimum and applaud his greed. His ego is bruised but he doesn’t care cuz he continues the same formula
Ashley, MA’AM! I can really appreciate this video because like you, I’ve been a day one Tyler Perry fan. I started watching his plays on VHS when I was in college in 2002. Good, bad or, indifferent I continue to watch all of his work BUT, I TOTALLY agree with everything you said, especially about the show Bruh… hated it. Lol
Hey 👋🏾 Ashley sorry I haven't comment on your videos in a while. But I just want to say I love❤ your commentary and I love that you're just bluntly honest you keep it real whether it's reality t v drama shows, you keep 💯👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿. To me, Tyler Perry is a good writer. So there's no excuse as to why his shows like sistas and bruh are written so terribly, Not due to the topics that are shown in the shows, but the unrealistic scenarios and actions of the characters is like he's forgotten how to write human beings. In my opinion, he's lost touch with people and it's only his ego and GREED as to why he doesn't want to get writers. But Tyler Perry has no excuses he's just ignorant.
It's literally the same stuff over and over again. And I get tired of the "struggle love" story lines. All a mess. I don't support his stuff but he has lots of people who enjoy that same ole story so there you have it
Constructive criticism is not hate. I’m proud of him and his accomplishments but I want us to be displayed in a positive light. I watch television to escape my reality and be entertained. However, his style of writing has become one note.
He served his purpose for Oprah when OWN first launched .. But she knows his limitations.. This is why she moved on from him and got shows like Queen Sugar and Greenleaf. There is now way Tyler Perry could have written two quality shows like that and sustained them for 5-6seasons . I really did like All the Queen’s Men season 1 and then once again middle of season 2 Tyler Perry started writing outlandish crap and I had to stop watching it . He always tires to go for shock value and end up with buffoonery
Too close to home I liked that show too it only had one season and it ended good I was so mad when I found out it wasn't coming back it ended in a shootout😂
I'm glad you made this video Im fed up with the same things from him, why is all he thinks about is the same thing? and always gotta be negative? I would like him to balance out the negative with some positive , empowering stories. I wont be watching his stuff anymore im tired of it
I don't understand the hate watching. If people don't like his movies or tv shows, stop watching. Tyler has a formula that has made him a billionaire. Why would he change his successful formula? People act like they don't have a choice to not watch his films.
People hate watch a lot of things. And it’s clear you missed the point of this video because you just regurgitated everything I said someone would say in his defense because they feel you can’t say anything bad about him or you’re hating. Point proven
@@AshleyMillerTV No it isn't that. It is just typical for black folks. It is as if , if we don't like something or someone we want everyone else to feel the same way.
I just came up with something…maybe he always see women this way because maybe that’s how the women in his family went thru a lot and overcomed. But I understand he need to change it up. This just came to me.
Whether it was tended or not I thought his latest movie was funny. But Tyler and some of his supporters will never get the concept of quality over quantity 🥴
Tyler is being ridiculous and I'm not entertaining his foolishness. I did enjoy Divorce in the Black but that was because my expectations were exceedingly low.
It wasn’t because him and Spike cleared up their issues a while ago. It was to everyone meaning the viewers and critics who didn’t like his last movie.
@@AshleyMillerTV not specifically Spike bc as you said they did clear up their issues, he even has a studio, I meant those like him that were leaning into respectability politics, ie referring to his stuff as buffoonery
@@AshleyMillerTV well I disagree with that 🤷🏾♀️ I think that buffoonery critique has been the most consistent. But then I also think his response missed the mark anyway, if in fact it was directed to his latest project, I’m not exactly sure of the timing when she actually interviewed him. But I do agree with most of your points. I’m glad you called out the ppl that hate watch just to be able to have something to say on the internet, that’s so dumb to me.
@@kdotnichole that’s literally what the interview was about: the recent criticism of his current movie. No other directors or whoever has even publicly commented on it. Plus, it was also about the fact that it score a 0% on rotten tomatoes. So, yes it was to everyone
Well even though I love most of his films, the way the shows get displayed on our screens never made many form of sense to me: the over repetitive storylines, dragged out storylines, and any unnecessary storylines. Like it was just pointless. That’s why I stopped watching Sistas, cuz 1) I was sick and tired of Karen and 2) the entire storyline just didn’t made any sense, especially from the season finale from the previous season. I do like Tyler Perry and his work, but he needs to take social criticism not necessarily as a bad way, but as a way to review his scripts and then hire writers to correct those mistakes. Like when students finish their essays, and they have to review what they wrote and then rewrite any mistakes they did on their paper. Again, I like Tyler Perry; I’ve been a fan since either 2007 or 2008 when I was like either 12 or 13. I just feel like he needs to hire writers, especially black writers. The only show I tolerate is the Oval. So yeah, I agree with everything you said Ashley.
I think constructive criticism is helpful but that doesn't mean you agree with it. I think Tyler just doesn't agree and thats cool. I haven't seen his response to previous criticism but on the keke interview I agree with what he said.
I don't know if it's true, people was saying that he doesn't want writers because he's not for unions. I will support him because he give Black people jobs. I wonder if any of the the actors on the TV shows feel comfortable mentioning that they don't think their character would do certain things.
I don’t think the criticisms are unwarranted. I do think people are taking the clips of the interview out of context. That, or I'm naive to how Tyler was being disingenuous in his response. He was addressing specific film creators who have made reference to him.
My problem with Tyler is that almost everything he makes has to be rooted in Black trauma and discord. He and Spike Lee have this in common(which is ironic considering they don't like each other). Do those stories exist? Yes. However, when you have gained as much power as the two of them(even moreso Tyler) you should be paying attention to the criticism of your biggest consumers that being Black people. White studios, writers, and directors already portray a negative image of Black people which gets globalized. Tyler has the opportunity to change Black imagery in the global market and enforce positive representation The fact that he ALWAYS deflects critique and says everyone is just a hater. Shows that he either doesn't care and wants to simply profit off Black folks and not create ACTUAL change. Besides the occasional nice words in interviews and acceptance speeches or he likes the system as a whole as it is. Meaning, he has just replaced a white face with his black one. Which seems to happen often with these black celebrities. They end up becoming the gatekeepers they were trying to fight passed, Because so many Black folks only know what success looks like through a white lens.
For Colored Girls wasn't his material. We went into that movie we were happy when we came out of the movie we were so down and everyone's faces were like 😳😔
I think he could make more quality shows and movies (he's shown he can) if he was open to constructive criticism and had writers and producers. He should and can hire talented unknown and known Black writers, producers, and directors. Hopefully Tyler will take a step back and seriously think about doing so instead of calling people highbrow negroes when he's one himself.
ATP I’m tired of him responding to the same criticism he’s been receiving for well over a decade now. He clearly gives zero F’s so why keep responding Tyler?…🤷🏾♂️
I don't and I watched that show sistas from the beginning and every season got worse, at this point it's just watching a train wreck and waited for its crash.
I'm starting to wonder if Tyler has had any real counseling/therapy. Like he's always talking about God and stuff, but regular therapy teaches you to self-reflect, look within, and even take accountability. He seems to be unable to do that and is very immature in that aspect
He has a writer's room for Sistas, and to be honest, they suck. You can tell that they are still writing from Tyler's aspect and are going for shock values, and it's not beikg received well. One writer admitted to never watching the show. The storylines are ridiculous, and the characters are over acting. Devale admitted to being frustrated with the scripts.
The same critic Black people give Tyler Perry...white critics gave worse to John Singleton. Boys n da Hood is still considered one of the worst movies by the white critics but is considered one of the best by Black people. I'm saying Tyler is not the first with critics. Matter of fact, all our great Black films were considered low. I guess I'm just questioning why we are so hard on Tyler?
Girl Tyler is a whole mess all them shows. He has upset me with them not making sense plus the same thing with kid shows Young Dylan on Nickelodeon. My baby watches it and she is waiting for him to put season 3 and 4 on Bet Plus,

I agree with you about loving the have and the have nots. The first 3-4 seasons were great for whatever reasons the last couple of seasons was so crazy istop watching. That show should still be on if he had some writers to tell better stories for each character
Heyyy Ashley Girl . Happy Sunday 💙
Excellent points! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
U used to review Greenleaf... And actually turnt me on to it I really liked that show.... But it ended uburptly totally pissed in the time I invested in the show... But I feel like u my have turnt me on to sum else now what had u said bout Ruthless about😂😂😂... Luv yo videos as always!!!
Greenleaf was so good until Grace son appeared. The final season was disappointing
And we never got the spin off we were supposed to get because the pandemy came and messed everything up
It ended because he was ending his contract with OWN, Oprah and Tyler had “creative differences” part of the reason he ended up buying 50% of BET+ and moving his shows over there
Tyler doesn't even deserve my hate watch at this point.
😂wow I didn’t even notice that about the camera.
The show was called Too Close To Home I loved that show
Hello, I am in my mid-40s and yes I remember when Tyler Perry plays were on VHS and later on DVDs ad Blu-Ray his movies. I agree with you as a fan you should be able to say how you feel and you are explaining it good. In our neighborhoods this is what we are use to but many women never get out these situations. I hope Tyler Perry doesn't have to go so far from what people are use too. Change is so far away from his main audience.
Can Tyler finish a storyline
That is my issue with him 🤯 it’s like his scripts are incomplete 😮
Someone who can't take constructive criticism does not need to be in show business imo
Too Close to Home confused me by coming on TLC 😂 Like, huh 🤨?
I remember that show. I don't know why it got cut off like that?!
Ashley, I totally agree with you and I am a lot older than you!!!
Ashley did you know “the Oval Office” is connected to “Ruthless”
Also from why did I get married, Jill Scott was just getting a divorce from her first husband. The second one she was movie she just had her son.
Lol
I appreciate this video so much ❤
I would love to see a slasher trilogy from him like halloween and some good thrillers
Too Close to Home...it was on TLC
Love that show
@@hunnybozeman5118 Me too
Yes girl no one ever talks about Too close to home! That was my show it came on TLC
I love your authenticity and explaining it's giving input , critique not hating.
.
But Tyler Perry has no excuses he's just ignorant.
season 4 of BRUH is good so far. the writers are writing !
Oh I thought it was canceled? So he has different writers for that show?
It's literally the same stuff over and over again. And I get tired of the "struggle love" story lines. All a mess.
I don't support his stuff but he has lots of people who enjoy that same ole story so there you have it
Remember he didn't write For Colored Girls.
For Colored Girls script was adapted from the original play from the 70s not his original work
Please do a movie review on the family that prays....PLEASEEEEEW
I just remembered I went to the Farewell Tour
Thanks for making my day .. love when you do your videos ..
Constructive criticism is not hate. I’m proud of him and his accomplishments but I want us to be displayed in a positive light. I watch television to escape my reality and be entertained. However, his style of writing has become one note.
Never been this early before
I'm very much a Tyler Perry Fan and you are so on point. He needs to get writers for a new view on his works I'm watching regardless 😊
Thanks for discussing one of my favorite Tyler Perry movies. What do you think of his movie Templeton starring Jurnee Smollet?
I wont be watching his stuff anymore im tired of it
I remember when Tyler was lead in Alex cross. I wonder if he could ever make movies like that...
Ruthless is the spinoff of the oval
In my opinion, Tyler does just enough to get you hooked and then once he’s got you hooked, he gets very sloppy with the writing.
That's in general tho not just Tyler stuff 🤷🏾♀️
@@AshleyMillerTVamen she really did 😆
@@AshleyMillerTV No it isn't that. It is just typical for black folks.
It is as if , if we don't like something or someone we want everyone else to feel the same way.
I just came up with something…maybe he always see women this way because maybe that’s how the women in his family went thru a lot and overcomed. But I understand he need to change it up. This just came to me.
Why did I get married still top 10 lol
I'm leaving your city... from a wonderful weekend of Nothing... due to the cancellation of the Jlo this is me now tour
Ashley don’t you know you can’t tell a Virgo shit? Especially a dark sided Virgo like Tyler!😂
Oh well that explains a lot! Lol
Exactly like I don't like how he called us that bc we want him to do better & improve cuz it def turned me off a little bit
I feel like that “high-brow knee gro” comment was a shot at the Spike Lees of the world
It wasn’t because him and Spike cleared up their issues a while ago.
@@kdotnichole again it was to EVERYONE who had something to say and mostly the viewers
Bruh is good they on season 4
I love the new house of paynes
I actually liked Jazz Man's Blues.
I don’t think the criticisms are unwarranted.
I do think people are taking the clips of the interview out of context.
That, or I'm naive to how Tyler was being disingenuous in his response.
He was addressing specific film creators who have made reference to him.
Did we ever find out who killed Amanda? Or was it really an accident?
She unalived herself.
Wyatt said he did it though.
Ruthless
For Colored Girls wasn't his material. We went into that movie we were happy when we came out of the movie we were so down and everyone's faces were like 😳😔
Ruthless was Tyler’s Handmaiden Tail .. I didn’t watch either
What would Siskel and Ebert say about his films?
Too close to home coming TLC
ATP I’m tired of him responding to the same criticism he’s been receiving for well over a decade now. He clearly gives zero F’s so why keep responding Tyler?…🤷🏾♂️
The film literally got a 0 on rotten tomatoes. Unacceptable for someone of his caliber and this deep into the game
I believe that he got a writers room for sistas
I don't and I watched that show sistas from the beginning and every season got worse, at this point it's just watching a train wreck and waited for its crash.
@@bsinita_wokeoneAs of Season 7, he has a writer's room for Sistas
Season 7 he has one and they making it worse. Nothing is making sense at all.
@@tyresmith9833 Very true
I'm starting to wonder if Tyler has had any real counseling/therapy. Like he's always talking about God and stuff, but regular therapy teaches you to self-reflect, look within, and even take accountability. He seems to be unable to do that and is very immature in that aspect
😊
He has a writer's room for Sistas, and to be honest, they suck. You can tell that they are still writing from Tyler's aspect and are going for shock values, and it's not beikg received well. One writer admitted to never watching the show. The storylines are ridiculous, and the characters are over acting. Devale admitted to being frustrated with the scripts.
why cant he pass the torch or hire a team of writers?
