It appears the new version of Power BI doesn't have Format > Visual > Row headers > Options. To get the same effect as turning off (what used to be called) "Stepped Layout", it appears you now go to: Format > Visual > Layout and style presets > Layout = Tabular To turn "Stepped Layout" back on: Format > Visual > Layout and style presets > Layout = Compact ... which will then give you the additional option (right under the Layout pull down menu) to set the amount of indentation. Hope that this helps others.
I literally came here to say that lol Good Job. Microsoft Products I swear have no consistency but a lot of power and flexibility. That's the trade off I guess.
I'm fairly proficient with Power BI but sometimes you just have a brain fart and something so simple eludes you. This video sorted it for me. Thanks heaps, you gained a subscription :-)
Is there a way to set up a horizontal scroll that works on the expanded 'stepped' rows as well. I have almost 10 row layers all stepped to show as table columns followed by the month wise sales.
Thank you very useful, do you have a video about same subject but related with Financial Statements, example Balance Sheet or Profit and Loss, I`m trying to build a Matrix with this approach. Thank you
Thanks for the nice video. What if I wanted to switch the order of how month and values are displayed in columns? The desired outcome is Sales-Jan,Feb,Mar then Count-Jan,Feb,Mar ... just to be able to see individual metrics next to each other. This is a standard feature in excel pivot and tableau (there appears a new virtual item "values" the order of which I can control) - cannot figure this out in power BI.
Thank you, it was helpful. I just wish the video showed the Power BI report all the time and not jumped between the presenter and Power BI. Some of us take a little longer to focus on the whole screen and rapid changed don't help
Hi power bi guy :) thanks for a great video. Im wondering if the expand all works if the data source is live? Will a new category automatically be visualised in an “expanded way”? Thanks!
i am struggling on to SUM up the below values, which is actually a multiplication of two measures, so on grand total level & SUBTOTAL level it is still multiplying instead of summing up, can you please advise, i have used all the relevant filter context using SUMX & SUMMARIZE combination including all the dimension table, but still it is not accurate
Hi bro i have doubt in matrix visual If i click month from one visual it will populate the list of days or split in 3 days of month and finally average of the month kindly help me i am trying to find solutions for a week
Is there a way to show all measure in the first level of the columns and then by the dimensions? e.g.: Sales Count Jan, Feb, Dec,.... Jan, Feb, Dec,.... This is very easy to achieve in a Pivot Table in Excel by dragging the "values" item into columns.... However it seems inpossible in Power BI.
based on slicer selection how we can show current year and next year in matrix visual in live connectivity eg. april 2022 is selected then how can we show that year april 2022 and april 2023 in matrix visual
Is it possible to create a table with previous year total (one column) followed by current month (Jan-Dec - 12 columns), followed by YTD difference (not monthwise 1 column) in powerbi, If i add Month field in column it splits previous year total and ytd difference monthly I donot want that to happen
Often Matrix tables are not understood properly. This video breaks them down and explains the functionality in the formatting tab. Feel free to reach out on LinkedIn if you have any questions or would like to connect: www.linkedin.com/in/rajausmaanayub/
I like your video but some constructive criticism : present the Power BI 'view' more than yourself speaking. For those of us trying to follow what you are doing, it's difficult to follow when you only show PBI in a brief moment.

Yesterday I was struggling to find this setting.
Thank you very much!
thank you this has enfuriated me, as soon, which every update, these videos become outdated.

Thanks, I really suffered a lot looking for that until I found this
You explained in 3.5 minutes, what some folks are still trying to explain in other videos. Thank you. :)

Happens all the time. Glad it was useful
Thank you so much a legend and breath of fresh air hearing a proper English accent from a local bro!
Love the lighting and set up! Keep up the great work
Thank you so much... I found what I needed here, hidden at the Row Headers setting!
Great job, Power BI Guy. This video is very helpful for me, thanks!

Would it be possible to put the column under the values? There is this functionality in excel pivot table
is it possible to have three row headers? how would you go about it ?
You can have as many row sub-headers as you want. keep dragging them underneath each (I might be misunderstanding your question)

Yep searching for same thing :'/
please reply if you have resolution
Put the Month in column section and in values section put both sales and count as measures.
Where is that in current version? And whats the name of it in Danish?

How to replace the word TOTAL in each sub ROW??

this isn't helpful if you're not showing what your data looks like

Too much back and forth between power BI screen and talking. After you start explaining report please keep screen on the report
Thanks for the feedback. I think I've stopped doing that as much since (this is an older video)
