I just installed this exact unit in my 2017 Tacoma Off-Road two weeks ago, so far it is working as advertised and I am loving it. When I bought it, I was not aware that it did not have HD radio, but now that I've had a chance to use and play with all its features and functions...it has not been a big deal at all simply because this new unit is so much better than my stock head unit ever was.
I have a 2019 Taco myself and I am considering getting this model. I was curious to how it looks in your ride? Being such a bigger screen does it block up the vents or get in the way of anything?
@@markcurnutt3925, Negative...this is a perfect fit and does not block or interfere with any vents at all. The fit and finish is excellent and install was very easy. The screen is not overly large for the space and in my opinion, just the right size me.
I just purchased this unit and it’s awesome. It has many of the best features you can get in a high end processor like the audison bit one (which I have) and the sound quality amazing. Very good acoustic detail and transparency right out of the box with default settings. It has a vinyl setting that makes audio sound warm and tube like which I really enjoy. The interface is simple but elegant at the same time. It looks clean and factory like in my tundra. With the maestro harness you can interface with you odb2, send and receive lots of data, display data, reconfigure settings, and even read faults! One thing the failed to mention is that it does play video files from a usb drive or android and it supports lots of high quality video and audio file types.
I just purchased this deck on ebay for $500 to replace the Dual 10.1 in my truck. I didn't think that I could play videos. Do I need to add something to be able to play videos or TH-cam?
@@delaneo100 no you just need to store them on an usb drive in one of video formats the deck supports. I have not verified this but it supposedly supports mirroring on android phones with a specific app installed. I’ve read that you can stream videos through your phone with it setup. Unfortunately I have an iPhone so I don’t know how well it works. This unit has way more functionality with android phones.
that's what im trying to get mines to do , I want video options, im about to hook up a fire stick or something, I need TH-cam, Netflicks and more, frfr, @$1400 it should come with all of that, and I want that maestro thingy for my OBD2 port in my Chevy Trailblazer even though its a 2007

These mainstream brands are in a race to build the biggest bezel ever on a head unit. Shit is so ugly, that screen could've been at least 13" within that same footprint. How is it these no name Chinese brands can design and make much better looking products?
I'm not even gonna lie, i think I prefer the bezel. For how many of these head units are used in pre-2000's cars, it manages to add a touch screen interface without looking too modern. Keeps a period correct look

It's amazing, but lets be honest....this system is overkill for 99.9% of potential buyers. Sony needs to drop some of the complexity and lower the price point. Most of us are just looking for a big floating screen, with wireless apple Carplay and it's too bad Sony left that group out, buy only offering it on their most expensive, higher end units.
Overall a really good product 👍🏻 but... The Side- and Bottom-bezel(s) should be as thin as the Top-Bezel. A sensor based control would also be nice, like the Volkswagen premium stereos do have. The ability to add a bluetooth volume knob like Alpine offers and a Pioneer like Split-view would also be great. So I’d have the option to control this expensive stereo however I like. Moreover a Full HD Screen, a fourth camera input for a birdview and HDMI-input and output with assignable source(s) (for instance 4 cams) would be nice too. Since this video is older than a year it would be great if Sony would come up with an improved stereo receiver for 2023. 🙏🏻 And please also sell these units in Europe not just the US. 🥲 Greetings from good ol Germany. 🇩🇪
Sony is the best out there but as far as I'm concerned but they blew it with not incorporating HD radio into the mix which you did mention. I guess the real question is, is there an HD add-on for this unit?
The fact that this does NOT have an HDMI input is pure insanity when the new lower model Sony XAVAX 6000 that came out at the same time does AT LITERALLY HALF THE PRICE. This 9500ES costs $1400 And the 6000 costs $700 new. It seems the only main difference is the bigger screen on the 9500ES. WHICH IS WHY IT MAKES EVEN LESS SENSE! If I were someone who was ever going to plug up an Xbox, PlayStation, or want to watch movies, stream tv shows, etc., on a head unit in my car, I would want the screen to be BIG just like a TV, just like the 9500ES! But for whatever reason, they put an HDMI on the 6000 which is almost half the size of the 9500 at 6.95 inch screen while the 9500 has a 10.1 inch screen. Just sheer stupidity on Sony’s part. I just bought the Sony XAVAX 5600 because I actually prefer wired CarPlay, but if I was in the market for a wireless CarPlay head unit, I’d go with the Sony XAVAX 6000 all day. Blows my mind that they didn’t add an hdmi input on a $1400 head unit wow. Edit: Not to mention the bezels on this 9500ES are wayyyy to thick.
I have a 2018 ford ecosport which is factory equipped with the sync 3 navigation screen and also have the rear camera. The unit suddenly died and because it’s out of warranty, I have to pay a crazy amount to replace it. I’ve been without music for almost two years now. Ford can’t tell me if an aftermarket radio/touch screen will work on my Ecosport. Can I use the Sony that’s seen on this video or something similar? Preferably something that can also play video like TH-cam for example? So instead of getting another sync 3 I rather invest in a better quality after market unit. What do you advise I do? I’m tired of carrying my Bluetooth speaker just to listen to music 😢

It doesn't stream NetFlix but it does have the ability to play video from a USB thumb drive without any problem. It is geared more for the best audio performance and it delivers in that respect. If you have music videos on a thumb drive and want to play them while driving the unit will play the audio but it will block the video until you shift into park. All though I haven't bothered to try but I think it will play video streaming from your phone with apple car play. Besides should people really be watching video while driving anyway. I suppose if you want to pacify children on long trips in the family SUV having the ability to play DVD's on the back of the head rests has it's merits but then again what modern radio does play DVD's?
Yeah this is a lot. They do have the 8” that’s on sale for less than $500 right now but no where near the features of this one. Look at the Pioneer DMH-W3800. Not too bad and on sale for $699. No wireless carplay or andriod auto thou.
Regarding the USB: You can plug in a USB-C flash drive (or get a C to A adapter) loaded with music and leave it. Navigation of your music on the drive is easy enough since your music is as organized as you have it on the USB drive. You are not restricted to playing media wirelessly via Bluetooth/AA/AC. Backup Camera: I had to install iDatalink's VID1 noise filter to clear up the picture. It is a significant difference between with and without it. It was the best $15 I ever spent. EQ: The EQ is BURIED in the settings and is not accessible from the USB interface or AA. From the USB interface you have minimize by pressing HOME > SETTINGS > SOUND > EQ. To reach the parametric EQ it's an extra step: instead of hitting EQ, go to Advanced > Parametric EQ. Talk about a pain in the ass. Why there isn't an EQ button or even sound settings button within the USB interface blows my mind. You can't even set up one of the two custom buttons to send you to the EQ when pressed. Lame. What Sony needs to do is allow individual songs (or albums) to have it's own save-able EQ settings. Also, a more robust USB interface is in order...album view, genres, and playlist creation needs to happen. Just like Stinger's HEIGH10, Sony claims they made this HU with audiophiles in mind, but don't give us much customization options let alone easier access to the options that actually exist.

Now, I just need to know what's the maximum size USB Stick that the head-unit can recognize? Hi-Res files aren't exactly small. No HD radio? Bummer. Everything is starting to trend back OTA these days and HD Radio is a huge missing feature. Imagine playing music/video from your PLEX server from home on this head-unit? Imagine this head-unit having a cellular SIM chip slot for extra connectivity? I can live without HDMI, just allow me to stream and receive data directly without connecting a mobile device! they could have added a "mini amp piggyback" there line of speakers are 90 rms. also.. they could have made the HU amp channels assignable. head unit for the tweeters and the "piggyback amp" for the doors. pretty cool though! larry

I can’t keep mines in Apple CarPlay. I believe the vibration throws it back in Bluetooth mode. Please help. Tried relocating the GPS already.

If you're looking for wireless CarPlay/AA, this is your best bet for a floating radio, unless you want HDMI in which case I'd recommend the 8100

Does the backup camera automatically turn on when backing up? The video makes me think you have to manually select it.

It requires an Idatalink Maestro module and harness, there's no way to do it from the radio itself

Now, I just need to know what's the maximum size USB Stick that the head-unit can recognize? Hi-Res files aren't exactly small. No HD radio? Bummer. Everything is starting to trend back OTA these days and HD Radio is a huge missing feature. Imagine playing music/video from your PLEX server from home on this head-unit? Imagine this head-unit having a cellular SIM chip slot for extra connectivity? I can live without HDMI, just allow me to stream and receive data directly without connecting a mobile device! There is so much here that can be improved upon. Maybe I DON'T need this head-unit. #SonyXperiaMobileES 😉
that analog clock ⏰ in the middle is too much, need to be able to turn it off
Them steering wheel controls are a pain. Instructions sucks too. This unit is way too expensive for not being able to play video

I have this head unit installed in my VW Vento. I am facing lot of lagging issues while using Android Auto. Any suggestions?
Did you get this sorted? Are you using idatalink? Do you have the latest firmware update?
@@zache.1099 the dealer was able to upgrade the firmware however Android Auto still has lagging issues making it unusable to listen to music while driving.
Why have a 10 inch screen if you can't wirelessly mirror videos, or play dvd's. What a bore. Can get same sound quality from a 200 dollar single din sony unit.

they could have added a "mini amp piggyback" there line of speakers are 90 rms. also.. they could have made the HU amp channels assignable.
head unit for the tweeters and the "piggyback amp" for the doors.
