    So humbled to be able to watch your channel when my chores are done and off of work. To see the amazing and rapid growth of yalls farm is remarkable in just a short amount of time. GOD is great. My wife and i just started our journey mid last year and with piglets and chickens and turkey we unfortunately dont have the space for cattle. It is breathe takin the winter wonderland you have there. GOD Bless hope to see new footage soon

    Being prepared has been a plus for you guys. Just like I side, a old burlap feed sack will save them pants put over top of fence. Your right, snow is pretty, but never fun to work in. I know the piglets under the hay were happy and warm. I could sit in front of that nice stove for hours. Blessings on you guys, and glad you guys have each other to do chores🙏🏻

    When family was raising pig we always soaked they're feed during warm weather soaked feed at the grainery when weather turn cold buckets kept behind our wood fired heartening the house kept enough that feed would be 48 to 72hours could really smell the grain feed fermentation in the house lol lol lol
    But soaked wet feed starts breaking down pigs are able to digest and use more of feed before it passes thru system

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. We are getting great results with soaking the feed. Nothing scientific but they seem to be gaining more on less feed. Id like to start fermenting but need a better system.

      @@SheratonParkFarms we just used metal 5gal buckets plastic hadn't caught on yet summer temperature was warm enough we had enough buckets that could go 72 hr before feeding smelled AL ost good enough to drink lol but then we only raised 6 adults plus whatever young they produce would sell feeders and raise couple our family
      This was all off grid in the Okanogan mounts
      Winter sometime we would get wheat from local grower exchange for pig and use 55 gal drum fill about half water with wheat then fill with water build small fire uder and let cook the wheat would soften and swell filling the barrel
      Mostly fed ground corn and round barley 2 to 1 the fermented feed smell like brewery
      Pig pen was 3 acres with natural spring feeding the small stream in middel that stayed wet and muddy

    I try to keep my pigs closer to an electric outlet in Jan and feb. I know not everyone can do that. Put a submersible heater in a nipple drinking barrel when it stays cold. Also I’ve been wetting the feed when I feed them. They seem to eat it easier that way. They don’t sling as much around like when it’s dry also

    Best pork I’ve ever had was what my sister raised on her goat dairy. We always kept pigs so we had a way to get rid of milk that didn’t pass the bacteria test at the co-op!

    Don’t know but thinking about the turkey poults, I imagine it was a lot warmer when the ones for Thanksgiving were mailed. Maybe one of those boxes was exposed to too much cold, (or coulda for sure been from a different hatchery)

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a thought. Not sure what is going on with them. Talked to the Hatchery today and they are going to issue a refund.

    Being from a farm that makes their own hay, I would never drop it on the ground in a pig pen. Half that hay will be wasted and driven into the mud. But I guess if you’re buying it, not a big deal. If your farm depends on its own hay harvest, it’s a huge deal.

  • @rueldeveyra1256
    @rueldeveyra1256 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bring some shade into the piglets they are small to survie that cold weather hay has no use caused it will be cover with snow later

    I’m new to your channel and loving it! Please fill me in as to why Angel lives with the group she does and if hay is her only source of food. Take care!

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Angel is a livestock guard dog. She protects against predators like foxes and coyotes. Sure had a double coat and I’d need to tolerate cold weather. We freed her a ration of dog food every day. Thanks for watching!

  • @hawkrose8403
    @hawkrose8403 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do the pigs that are out in the open the ones that aren’t in the cattle barn have any shelter to get out of the snow or do they just get under the hay for shelter? I’m just asking. I am not asking this from a negative point of view.
