i watched many of your videos as a guide and caught my first 19.5 inch (6 inch wide) sheephead out in Redondo reefs on my second day of targeting sheepshead. i appreciate your videos!
Long time lurker here. Your knowledge and videos are top notch. I Shore fish Torrance beach and have a Vibe Seaghost down at C dock in the Redondo harbor that i just setup a trolling motor on.
It was good to go out with you again. Thank you for sharing some of your spots and putting us on some nice fish. Can't wait to hit the spots with you again.
Blast from the past! *Great* to hear from you. I launch almost exclusively out of Redondo, but would love to have you join us. Got some cool stuff in the works - shoot me an email at HobieScout at gmail dot com.
Great video!! Just discovered your channel, really enjoy your narratives and explanations! Our “Sheepshead” here in the east are MUCH different than those. Those are a beautiful fish, the remind me of a grunt only multi color. Thanks so much for sharing with us, I especially like how you show the finder and explain some about it, I have used them for years and even learned a little some thing here!!! Thanks again, and subb’d!!! W.
Good stuff brother! Was wondering if you tried to drop on the ship artificial reef in Redondo. I am a spearfisher that is very ill equipped when it comes to angling.
Could you maybe do a video on how you clean up your kayak after a trip out? I can't find any information on the subject and I don't want my pedal drive or anything getting rust
My cleanup routine isn't that complicated, to be honest. I make sure i rinse everything thoroughly in fresh water, then apply some WD40 to the moving parts of my Mirage Drive.
Theres a parking lot and a concrete ramp that goes down to the sand much closer to the kelp. Its right before the first mansion on Paseo de la playa. Should be 75% less paddling to get to the kelp.
Love your channel! Thanks for the great content. I have a question about reels. I like the Penn Battle ll reels. Should I purchase the 3000 model or should I move up to the 6000 so I have some flexibility as far as braid lbs? Will the 6000 be too much to handle on the water in a kayak. Also, on average, what lb braid are you using and generally how many yards are you spooling? Thanks again and I hope to run into you on the water.
Thanks. There is a pretty big diff in terms of dimensions and weight betw the 3000 and 6000. For the kind of fishing that you see on my channel, I'd split the diff and go with a 4000 or 4500 size reel and spool with 40lb braid all the way to capacity of the reel. That's assuming I could only have one reel. Also - when spooling with braid, you have to make sure you wind it on *tight*.
@@flipdaworld The Spinfishers are supposed to be good reels. That particular reel/line combo might run into limitations when: 1) Fishing for big game like Yellowtail or WSB near kelp, where you might have to wrestle them out of kelp. 2) Might not hold enough line to reach 300' when hunting rockfish, and again, if you hook into something bigger (Ling Cod), you'll need heavier line to wrestle them out of structure before they wrap you around something. When hunting bigger fish, I'd probably go with min 30lb braid, and maybe 20-25lb leader.
So what I would do is keep the 3500 and use it for lighter applications, then get a conventional / baitcaster setup with maybe 50lb braid as the main line. I like spinning reels for lighter applications, but those huge 6000 size spinners are just too heavy and clunky. But that's just my personal preference.
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 thanks man! I did purchase the Okuma Cortez conventional you recommended in one of your videos. Along with the 50lb braid and 25lb mono. Tjanks again and really hope I see you out there.
Nice Sheephead! In the future, try to reel in those sheephead faster. When you feel the thump, set the hook and immediately burn it in, don't give them a chance to wrap themselves around anything.
Ima try it - thanks Cheethoe. I have a plan for the next Catch-Me-If-You-Can video. I'm pretty sure I can add Sheep and Surf Perch to the tally. Btw people - go check out Cheethoe's channel - some of the underwater footage from out trips are fascinating.
The Sheep seems to like shrimp the best. For the rest of the fishing, I'm primarily a lure fisherman. I typically use erratic fall lures this the Shimano Coltsniper: amzn.to/2Pl8mCz
Just found your channel, so much good info. Im a float tuber, mainly castaic lagoon/eastern Sierras but I just purchased a used pelican catch 100, also have a newport vessel trolling motor coming in. Im just trying to put some hours on the lakes before I hit the ocean. What areas are best newbie friendly? Thx for sharing your info.
I have to be honest - it's tough to meet fellow kayakers. I've met all my good friends just by saying "Hi." at the launch dock and putting out good, positive energy. I"m not saying everyone you meet are going to be good people, but more often than not, putting out good vibes get back good vibes.
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 thats the truth! I stay inside the breakwall but id like to fish outside...just need to go out with others just in case. I live in Venice, if you're ever fishing in the area and dont mind if i tag along let me know. Thanks for your help 👍
Bro I went down there to fish from shore but it’s way too crowded for me. Are there any places to fish from shore that are less crowded? I tried to find a spot in Palos Verdes on the way back but couldn’t find anywhere to park and fish. Please help me with some directions 🙏🏼💙
It's just the world we live in Braddah. I think it's just a matter of hiking to spots where most people don't want to hike to - the further you go from Malaga Cove, the better the fishing, I'd imagine.

Big Ling Cods on deck!
Love catching them sheepers!!!
Yes, it's fun and challenging.
Great job catch those sheepsheads. Hope I get to catch one soon.
Thank you.
Absolutely loved your video! From the fish finder frequencies to the bait ball info to pulling beautiful Sheephead out of the kelp! 🤙🏻
Much appreciated!
I caught my pb sheepshead from a break wall on Catalina. Rented rod, water bottle as float, and a hotdog for bait.
Now *that's* a video I would love to see!

Thanks Bravo - we need to get back out there soon, man. Maybe do another trip to Pyramid and camp out there.

Hi - no license to kayak. If your kayak has some kind of motor, I think there is registration involved though.
