Honestly, I always wanted to see what a claymated adaptation of a Nintendo franchise made by Aardman would look like. Donkey Kong, Pikmin or Earthbound might be their best options.
Actually he's the father of the modern donkey Kong, he's cranky Kong's son and Cranky is the original Donkey Kong. It was really weird in Mario Tennis 64 when DK's doubles partner was the child version of his father.
Diddy Kong was originally intended by Rare to be a redesign of Junior, but Nintendo told Rare that they either had to change his design to be more faithful to the original, or give him a different name and treat him as a brand new character. Rare ended up going with the latter. It's pretty much accepted by now that Cranky Kong is canonically the original Donkey Kong, but Nintendo seems to flip-flop on whether Cranky is the father or grandfather of the current DK, which would make him either a grown-up Junior or Junior's son. (I personally prefer to think of current DK and Junior being the same character, and with Nintendo and Illumination going with the interpretation of Cranky as DK's father for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, that seems to be the official stance for now)
He looks like Han Solo when he was trapped in Carbonite the way he turned into a card
Ngl, this is kind of Aardman-like.

@@Subscribe2Mr.M Oh
Honestly, that's my headcanon.
The two already look very alike and I hate the thought of Jr being left out when he is a really important character.
